Breakfast was soo good all the mornings we were there, my favorite was the breakfast sandwich the first morning! My fiancé booked the Bedford Inn on Dec. 23rd and proposed that afternoon on the beach in Cape May! It was so incredibly special as we had a magical time at the Bedford Inn during Christmas time a few years prior. Paula is an absolutely outstanding host, the mansion is so beautifully decorated, and the breakfast on Christmas Eve morning was to die for! We still talk about those red velvet waffles! It is a rare case of feeling that five stars is not enough and I want to give more -many more - to this fabulous place. In fact, I cannot imagine coming back to Cape May and staying anywhere else but Bedford Inn. It has a wonderful location - minutes of walking to restaurants and the beach, yet, standing in a small street with free and abundant parking, which is a rare asset in the town. The Inn was built in 1881, it is a beautiful Victorian house filled with architectural gems like stained windows , high ceilings and handmade cabinets, decorated by antique furniture. It is a part of the town's tour of old houses. One night we were surprised to see a long line of tourists outside, led in in small groups to see the hand pained dining room, the living room with a lit fireplace and numerous Christmas trees, each with its own theme - from musical instruments to birds of feather. People were so jealous to see us getting and walking upstairs to our warm and cosy room. With all the beauty of an old house, you would not suffer from a lack of comfort: a strong hot shower in a large and beautiful bathroom or a really comfortable bed. We slept so well for both nights....even my Fitbit agreed. But what makes the place truly special is Paula and her team. Every breakfast is an event, every small detail is taken care of. No need to carry a card or a key - all doors have a punch-in code (and everything works). There is a great selection of teas, there is water and glasses in the dining room all day long. I am a vegan and I mentioned it to Paula in my ETA email. Never had I such a variety for breakfasts: colorful avocado toasts, baked oatmeal with apple, vegan scones and muffins, vegan yogurt.... As much as we loved the dining experience at Cape May, one of the town's attractions, the breakfasts were a true highlight of our weekend! read more

There are several B&Bs spread out in Cape May, but this particular one is a classic gem that has to be experienced in order to truly appreciate it's unique charm. Our room was on the top floor and the cleanliness was second-to-none. Crisp white bed sheets with white pillows that looked like they came out of a catalogue, the presentation was immaculate. Not a speck of sand from previous guests or dirt, the room feels like you are the first person to have ever used it. I literally could not find any dust or dirt in my room, 'flawless' would be the most appropriate adjective for describing the room. Whoever does the cleaning is top-notch A+. Roxanne and Paula were on their A-game the entire time, for example, while eating breakfast it had gotten to a point where before I could ask for more coffee or juice that it would seamlessly be refilled. Their strong attention to detail and service is impeccable. Roxanne made a scrumptious quiché for breakfast accompanied by fresh blueberries, raspberries and cantaloupe that was heavenly. While we did not want to leave our stay at the Bedford Inn, we can rejoice knowing that we can come back another day to make new memories at this special place that feels like home. read more

Been coming here for years - it is under new ownership now and I can't help but feel the breakfast, which was the absolute hallmark of our stay - has declined. They no longer serve iced teas and cookies in the afternoon. When entering the inn in the evening hours it is totally dark in the sitting room. Felt not very inn-like. We love the accommodations but really feel that the warmth and attention to detail given by the prior owners is absent. read more

Quaint and friendly. We were greeted at the front door upon arrival. Paula was gracious and accommodating. Since it was the off season, Paula upgraded us without us even asking. How nice was that!? The Bedford was decorated in a Christmas motif. The table set to a period piece holiday display. A large Christmas tree adorned the entry way. This place was charming beyond belief with a working fireplace in the main salon. The breakfast on the enclosed front porch was beyond expectations and the coffee, the most important part, was rich and flavorful. A delightful combination of fruits and breakfast set the days in motion. Housekeeping was very attentive. The charm here is old time special comfort. I loved it. read more

Just spent 3 absolutely wonderful nights at this charming Inn / B and B. It's beautifully decorated...especially at Holiday time...it's cozy, clean and just plain comfortable. The sleeping rooms are also beautiful, with high end linens and other above average accoutrements. And finally, the breakfasts are simply delicious, not to mention the cider, doughnuts, wine and cheese that are offered at different times during the week. This was my third time at the Bedford Inn and it has been on a steady decline. The bathroom door in our room came off the hinges which was supposed to be fixed when we were staying there and it never was. The two marble tables in our room were off balance causing items and drinks to slide off, rendering them useless. There was no afternoon tea which is a staple with Victorian inns. The variety of breakfast foods served has been cut in half since the previous owner. Worst of all, I specified my allergies and I was assured the food would be safe for me to eat. I ended up in the urgent care due to an anaphylactic reaction. They are lucky I received medicine in time as anaphylaxis escalates quickly and can result in suffocation for most. The last time I'll be staying here, I recommend the Queen Victoria to anyone considering. read more

Well if you like quaint, friendly and an INN with character the Bedford in is for you. We first went to the Bedford a number of years ago and still continue to go back. The innkeeper, Archie is just awesome. He really makes you feel like family. The breakfast he has in the morning is always really good. You have to give this INN a try and you will not be disappointed. If you do decide to book do not use the links on trip advisor. Go directly to the site and check out availability. We used the trip advisor link and it said they were booked. We called Archie and he said he had lots of rooms for the times we requested. Basically, this little INN needs to pay a fee for the link to work. I've been to cape may many times and love the cozy, relaxed, whimsical feel. The Bedford Inn is not this. This review is for room 10 and the overall venue. Overall for entire experience: Defiantly, dumpy, deteriorating and decrepit. Common space is meager and filled with the owner's tchotchkes for sale, photos and Cape May Tourism materials. While not uncommon to post personal memorabilia. There were oddities like an air filter globe and an electric butler advertising ??? that were for sale and beyond off topic if you are trying to create a cozy, welcoming vibe. Breakfast consisted of lots of sugary options with very little substance. Limited private seating (one option) meant you had to sit at the communal table against the cramped buffet. Room 10 - Bedroom Suite - Sheer red polyester curtains and peeling floral wallpaper. Polyester linens, and noisy, rattling AC. Internet did not work. Linoleum floors, builder grade sink, heavy plastic shower curtain, plastic flower basket and a floral runner greet you in the bath. We would have left. However, they take a non-refundable deposit for half of your stay. At $255 a night there are far better options. read more

I booked the Bedford Inn for my anniversary. I read the reviews about the place and host (Archie) and gave it a try. I must say I have resisted staying at a bed and breakfast for some time but I wanted to treat my wife to a nice surprise. I am so happy to have found it. We had a wonderful stay and will be visiting again. Archie was a great host and has a beautiful Inn. I booked a suite with two rooms and it was clean and comfortable. Parking was not an issue and we were one (1) block from the beach. Breakfast and afternoon tea time (4pm) was great and you can eat on one of the balconies or porches if you want. You can walk to most popular places which also makes this a really great place to stay when in Cape May. read more

Visited August 29 - 31, 2016 My wife and I really enjoyed the Bedford Inn. The owner Archie and his Corgie Luke, greeted us and showed us around his B&B. Everything looked very clean and orderly... then showed us our room. ((Room 8) Nice and clean... with a newly renovated bathroom. As it turns out, The Bedford Inn had suffered a fire back in the Winter of 2014 and the side of the house that we were on was completely burnt out. Archie only opened up the Bedford this past Memorial Day and the place really looks terrific yet still showing it's historic side. The Bedford Inn is conveniently located one block from Ocean Avenue and the beach and a short walk to town and many of the excellent restaurant that Cape May Island offers. (A bike rental shop is just around the corner for those interested in biking around Cape May. ($5. per hour) Archie also serves a very nice breakfast... quiche with ham or Belgian waffles with sausage... as well as great coffee as well as fresh OJ (This is what we had during our two day stay.) Beach towels, chairs and outdoor showers are also available if you forget to bring them. (Well the outdoor showers are for coming back from the beach to wash off that Cape May sand.) Archie even offered to let us use the toilet and outdoor shower if we wanted to hang around Cape May before we left for home. Very considerate. The only criticism we had was the bed. It had ever so slight a tilt to it (left)... not really noticeable until you're in the bed. Just a very minor point as the bed itself was quite comfortable with nice clean, soft sheets. Perhaps a tad on the expensive side, but then... it IS Cape May in the Summer. read more

Just stayed at The Bedford this weekend and it was perfect! So close to the beach and was just what I was looking for. Recently renovated and had a beautiful big common area, two outdoor porches and an indoor porch. Beds were crazy amounts of comfy (even had a step to get into it!). Archie was an amazing host...delicious snacks in the afternoon and yummy breakfast. Coffee always out in the hallway. Archie helped above and beyond as I needed to find another place to stay the next night so he called so many places, and let me borrow beach towels and use the showers etc while I was sorting somewhere out. A perfect host. Will definitely be back and would recommend to anyone (...as long as they don't want to go the same time as me then I'd say don't, it's awful! ;) ) Thanks! read more

My husband and I just left the Bedford Inn and are already excited to visit again. The home itself is very charming, the rooms clean and the bathrooms nicely updated. Proximity to beach is great, as is the proximity to restaurants and shops. It's on a quiet street so you can sit on one of the outdoor porches and enjoy the peacefulness. The staff - especially the inn keeper, Paula - made us feel very comfortable and all of the guests were respectful of one another's space. Highly recommend! read more

We had a wonderful stay! Our room was immaculate, and the bed was super comfy. Great amenities--rosemary and mint essential oil lotions and shampoo. Beach chairs and tags included. We really enjoyed the cozy second story porch, and delicious breakfast (you can opt for a boxed breakfast if you want to sleep in). They are taking all precautions--sanitizer and wipes everywhere, several breakfast seatings to allow for social distancing. We will definitely be back! read more

If you like sleeping in or going to bed early don't stay here. Walls are paper thin and you can hear everything. I stayed in a room where the windows were on the other side of the porch. Had to deal with loud obnoxious people until late in the night despite the fact that the porch area is supposed to "close" at 1030pm. Was then awoken early in the morning by same. read more

We had an amazing stay at The Bedford Inn! It's under new ownership and they are wonderful. The property is pristine! The rooms are what you expect from a Cape May B&B Victorian style home. What you don't expect are the beds. Heavenly. Slept like a baby. Food is incredible. Gourmet quality! Just a block from the beach and an easy walk to everything you want to visit. This was my first trip to Cape May in quite a long time and after searching through the many bed and breakfasts the town has to offer, I chose the Bedford Inn. My girlfriend and I stayed here for a long weekend and had a great time. The Inn is very charming and historical, but with a modern touch. Archie was a wonderful host and was very helpful with pointing out restaurants and places to check out while in town. This location is only 1 block to the beach and offers beach chairs and towels to use. Breakfast was served every morning and afternoon snacks were available. I plan to visit Cape May in the near future and would definitely choose the Bedford as my place to stay time and again and offer my recommendation to friends and family. read more

We stayed at the Bedford Inn this past weekend. The innkeepers are very pleasant, as is the home, and breakfast. The inn is very close to the beach; about a block or two. It's also very close to Washington Street Mall. There's some limited parking at the inn, which is a plus. Our room/suite had a little view of the ocean, which was nice. Our third year here and we love it. The rooms are a bit old but that's what makes it charming. There is a downstairs indoor and outdoor porch and a second level porch. The location is perfect for Cape May. It is right by where the boardwalk starts to get busy. You are one block from the beach. The breakfast is yummy and homemade. Archie puts out a variety of items like muffins, fruit, egg dishes, cereal and more! Coffee is amazing. My husband says it's the best he has had here on the cape. We love using the outdoor showers after coming back from a day at the beach. Plenty of towels and beach chairs for everyone. There is also parking in the driveway although we always find a spot right on the street. A five minute walk to the main shops and we enjoy biking all over. Always a great stay. Consistency is important to us and we always find it here. The Bedford has been one of the reasons we love coming to Cape May. read more

This was my first visit to the Bedford Inn and it certainly will not be my last. We received a warm greeting upon arrival from Archie, the inn keeper, who showed us around and to our room. The comfort and relaxation was immediate- this is truly a home away from home. The rooms are newly updated, freshly painted, new carpeting and adorably charming with antiques and cute accents. Archie recommended a great restaurant for dinner and it was close enough that we were able to walk around in the evening and explore the town. Again, the room and bed were so comfortable, fresh and clean- I may have slept better than I do at home! Breakfast was served in the morning- a delicious variety of food; decadent French toast, cereal, freshly baked scones, sausage, fresh fruit, coffee, juice (complete with a handwritten menu- it seemed to be ongoing theme at the Bedford- "Above and Beyond"). Breakfast was served in the dining room which is decorated beautifully with a hand painted mural from floor to gorgeous high ceiling and complete with friendly conversation with other guests. If you are looking for a place to feel at home, want for nothing and truly get away and relax- look no further. read more
