Our experiences with Beck's Construction building our retirement home and barn in 2021 was mixed. Although some problems were addressed, several construction, design, and reimbursement issues were impractical to correct or remain unresolved. Our primary concerns include:
-Vinyl siding installation. The installation did not comply with the manufacturer's warranty requirements thus invalidating our lifetime warranty.
-Creek culvert. The drainage tile Beck's installed for our culvert did not accommodate high creek flows resulting in frequent overflows and washouts. Beck's promised to obtain professional help to reassess and rebuild the culvert correctly but did not follow up. It subsequently cost us $16,000.
-Concrete garage floor. Because of our advancing age, we specified that the garage floor had to be level with the house floor. The installed garage floor is 18 inches lower.
-Shower enclosure. We requested a 60-inch shower enclosure with safety grab bars. An error in the architectural design allowed for only a 48-inch shower, and no safety bars were ever installed.
-Barn window. We paid Beck's for a barn window that was not installed. We have not received a refund.
-Door system. We requested a factory-finished front-door system with a 10-year warranty. Beck's mistakenly ordered and installed an unfinished door. Beck's said it would refinish the door "as good as the factory". In less than three years, their finish faded and became cloudy. Beck's said it would reimburse the $580.31 we paid to refinish the door system properly. We have not received that reimbursement.
-Sewer system. Beck's ordered and installed an E/One grinder pump for our sewer service. The outflow pipe fitting broke in 2026 which was attributed to improper installation and plastic fittings. We paid $4,475 to repair it. Beck's declined our request for reimbursement. read more
