Please keep in mind, at the time of the quote, gold was valued at $5100 per ounce and when I visited, it dropped to $4600 per ounce. I came in, and was told it would be $400-$450 because my total carat weight was in actuality 1.58. I let them know about the estimate I received, to which she angrily said, this is why I hate it when they do online quotes, because people don't know what sizes they have. And then she also got upset because she doesn't know who gave me the quote because of the way Yelp profiles are set up. My mistake for the sizing, but it's not even a full 1/10th of a carat weight. An extra $100 for 0.08. I would understand an increase relative to the weight, had it been 2 total carat weight, that's completely reasonable at half a carat per $100. She said it costs $200 to source the settings, and it doesn't include the labor to polish and clean the item. She started stuttering when she was trying to justify the pricing, so I knew she was lying. A quick google search tells you differently, and they have access to warehouse pricing, so let's be real, she chose to arbitrarily charge more because she felt like it. I left and went with another local jeweler, where they gave me the exact same setting for $300. Don't take what they tell you at face value, do your own research, and make sure you don't get swindled by this business trying to take advantage because they think you don't know any better.

More Than a Jewelry Store -- A Place That Holds Our Stories…read more My family has been coming to Generales & Generales Fine Jewellers since they first opened their doors in 1969, and I've lived just around the corner since 1984. In all that time, this store has quietly woven itself into the fabric of our lives -- not just as a business, but as a place where moments, memories, and meaning are handled with extraordinary care. Yes, the jewelry is beautiful. The workmanship is impeccable. But that's only the surface of what makes Generales & Generales so special. What truly distinguishes this place is the way people are treated -- with warmth, patience, and an instinctive understanding of what matters. There is a rare kind of judgment at work here: thoughtful, humane, and guided by a simple principle of doing right by the customer, always. Not because a policy demands it -- but because it's who they are. I was recently there to have a ring resized -- a ring that once belonged to my maternal grandfather. It's a small object, but it carries generations of history and emotion. From the moment I placed it in their hands, I felt something I can't easily put into words: complete trust. Not just in their skill, but in their respect for what that piece represented. It was handled as if it mattered -- because to them, it genuinely did. Peter and Sylvia, along with their entire staff, have a way of making you feel like you are the most important person in the room -- not in a performative way, but in a deeply human one. They listen. They remember. They care. Every visit feels personal, unhurried, and grounded in kindness. And here's the thing I find myself thinking almost every time I walk out the door: I wish I could give them more money than they charge. Not because of upselling or persuasion -- but because of how good I feel after being there. How respected. How reassured. How grateful. That feeling is priceless, and it's something Generales & Generales has been giving their customers for over fifty years. In a world where so much feels rushed, transactional, and impersonal, this place stands as a reminder of how powerful it is to simply treat people well. Generales & Generales doesn't just sell fine jewelry -- they safeguard trust, honor family stories, and build relationships that last generations. Peter, Sylvia -- thank you for what you do, and for the way you do it. Our neighborhood, and our family, are better for having you here.

I also had a broken gold anklet chain soldered as well as a broken-off piece from a gold-plated hoop earring. The final item was a rare high-grade sugilite silver ring I had purchased back in August that needed gentle polishing. Everything was perfectly done. I had come in the week of Thanksgiving and all of it was done by the second week of December. Make sure to say hi to Dalia while you're there. Here's the pricing: $150 for restringing pearls and replacing the clasp and tongue; $40 for soldering the earring part; $35 for soldering the gold chain on the anklet; $50 for tightening the diamond on the engagement ring (they added more platinum to help secure the setting); and $70 for gently polishing the sugilite ring without scratching it! The owner was able to examine…read moremy piece and consider the options, since it couldn't be the standard round sizing rod approach. Fortunately he had time to work on it while I waited and check sizing with me as we went. I can finally wear this ring again! Very happy with the result I got and the price I paid. I can't guarantee he'll be able to work on the spot for everyone like this, but I was very satisfied and would bring future work here.

My cousin had given this clock to my sister, and my sister knowing my interest in genealogy, gave the clock to me. It wasn't running right (some movement, but it would stop, also it chimed endlessly. I took it to a local jewelry store, where they had it for about six months before telling me they could not repair it. I realized I needed a special kind of clock repairman, so I did an internet search and found Hopkins Jewelers, in Burbank. This was early May, 2025. They had excellent reviews. I liked the shop. Very old school. Clocks lining the walls. Clocks to be repaired all over the floor. Sure, chaotic but definitely looked like a shop that could handle a nearly century old mantle clock. The owner said give him three months. At three months I called and he said he had looked at it but still trouble shooting. Here's the thing, having the clock, my grandfather's clock, was the important thing. Having it work like "clockwork" would be a bonus but not if I risked this place going out of business. So after another three months I decided to go in and if he hadn't fixed it I would thank him for his time, pay him for whatever analysis he had done, and retrieve my clock. Well bottom line, he basically did not want to return it to me. He didn't actually refuse but he kept tinkering with it for probably two hours, telling me it was maybe this thing wrong, or that thing wrong, but to leave it with him and he would continue working it. I agreed to this (big mistake). So after 11 months of him holding my clock I went back to the shop where he tells me it's fixed. We had put in an original stipulation that he would do a maximum of $500 work into it, but he plugged it in, showed me the second hand was keeping time, charged me the $500 and away I went. I plugged it in at home and for the next ~2 hours it worked, then the hands stopped moving (except the second hand, figures). I called him up and basically he is asking all these questions, so I responded why didn't he check it before telling me it was fixed and charging me $500. Basically he wants me to return the clock and let him work on it again. I am not going to do that, I have my clock back and I am going to write this review so that you don't get ripped off like I did.
