My son is 18. He isn't a baby, but he does suffer from high functioning autism. I am an advocate…read more for him and always will be. He still attends high school. He relies on his adhd medicine to help him concentrate while in school. We came into American Health Network to seek assistance in continuing his medication. We had recently moved from the Indianapolis area. His medication is a controlled substance, so we have to get his prescription renewed every month. When I made his appointment, I gave the receptionist his background. How successful he has been at school, and how he has been under a doctor's care continuessly throughout the time he was prescribed the medication. I even offered his primary physician's information, so they could background check, or at the very least verify that my son was, and successfully on the medication. When we arrived, it was obvious the attending nurse practitioner was advisarial towards us. She checked his heartbeat. The rest of the time, insulted both me as a mother, and my son. She did not listen to me, talk to my son (who is very articulate), get our doctor's info from Indy, or anything constructive. My son has a medicaid waiver due to his disability. We also have Aetna as our primary insurance. After being insulted and literally only having my son's heartbeat checked, the attending nurse practitioner who I will only state as Tammy, proceeded to tell me I would have to bring my son in EVERY month. She did not have me fill out paperwork to get his medical history. She did nothing but insult both my son and myself. I have to say after advocating for my son for over 18 years, I have never experienced a visit like this. She checked his heart. We would have to come in EVERY single month. Medicaid scam. Bottom line, we will never be back. I also informed my son's case manager of our experience. I also thought that we were seeing an actual doctor, but Tammy was a nurse practitioner. Not that that is a problem, but I was not informed my son would be seeing a nurse practitioner. I knew when we left, we would not be back. We have since went to another practice, was told he would be seeing a nurse practitioner, and was not insulted one time due to moving and my son being successful on his medication. A little bit of background checking by American Health Network would have avoided the conflict. Do not go there unless you need the barest care. Tammy did not care. Bottom line.
