Hi girls! I wanted to share my honest experience with VanitySD for anyone considering booking them…read morefor their wedding or special event.
I originally found VanitySD through a girls' Facebook group and reached out to book hair and makeup services for my wedding on October 2, 2026.
I had my makeup trial on July 7th with Nhungoc. During the trial, we went over my inspiration photos for both hair and makeup before she got started. Overall, I was pretty happy with the final result. However, I did notice that she applied my foundation using a dry makeup sponge and seemed to have trouble blending certain areas, repeatedly going back over the same spots. I thought it was a little odd, but I figured she was the professional and that things would go more smoothly on the wedding day.
On the day of my wedding, Nhungoc arrived around 10 a.m. with another woman who would be doing everyone's hair. We had discussed that everyone needed to be ready by 4 p.m.
Throughout the morning, I noticed that while doing everyone's makeup, she would frequently pause to take pictures and create content for social media. At times, she even asked my videographer to use her phone to record videos of her working. Personally, I found this unprofessional, especially considering we were on a tight schedule and my videographer was there to capture my wedding, not create content for the makeup artist. However, I was trying to stay calm and not let little things bother me on my wedding day.
Unfortunately, despite our agreed-upon timeline, I wasn't finished until approximately 4:30-4:40 p.m. This meant that I missed out on certain photos I had planned to take with my bridesmaids. My photographer and videographer kept asking when I would be ready, and at one point, I even offered to help with my own hair because we were running so far behind.
As for the makeup itself, she again applied my foundation using a dry sponge. She also mentioned wanting to "try something different" from what we had discussed and agreed upon during my trial. Personally, I don't think someone's wedding day, especially when they're already running behind schedule, is the appropriate time to experiment with a different look. That's one of the reasons brides schedule trials in the first place.
She also used some of my personal makeup products. While I didn't necessarily mind, I did feel that a professional makeup artist should arrive fully prepared with their own products. I also couldn't tell whether the brushes were being cleaned or changed between clients, which was another concern of mine.
Additionally, my bridesmaids expressed that they didn't feel their preferences or feedback were really being listened to during the process.
Overall, I would say the final results were okay. Nhungoc was very pleasant and nice throughout our interactions, and I do want to acknowledge that. However, being friendly doesn't necessarily make up for the lack of time management and professionalism I experienced.
My biggest disappointment wasn't necessarily the makeup itself, but the fact that I missed out on moments and photos I had specifically planned for my wedding day because I wasn't ready on time. Those are moments I can't get back.
Unfortunately, I wouldn't book VanitySD again. Looking back, I genuinely feel I could have achieved better makeup results doing it myself and I would have been ready on time.
I wanted to share my experience so other brides can make an informed decision when choosing their hair and makeup team.
