I got the chicken katsu: the chicken and the Togarashi sesame bagel itself were great; I think the sauce could be less sweet and more spicy. The hall seemed busy but my food was ready by the time I finished ordering a drink from another vendor. Very convenient spot with AC, seating, free wifi, and clean bathrooms to fuel up before my hike. If I ever come back to North Carolina, this is definitely on my list to revisit.

I love a place with multiple, vegan bagel sandwich options! I appreciate that they have an entire…read moresandwich designed as vegan (rather than simply a "vegan" version that removes cheese or uses fake meat). I've gotten three of their vegan bagel options, the vegan Kimchi Lox, the Lebanese Spicy Tofu, and the Vegan Bahn Mi. I think that the food isn't exceptional, but it's filling & again, they have some well done vegan options. The Lebanese Spicy Tofu was definitely the best of the three (but a big mess, beware!). The Vegan Bahn Mi (pictured) was good, but maybe a bit underseasoned. The vegan Kimchi Lox is of course also quite messy, but of course doesn't have any protein on it. In our experience, it's best to just order online, and then go pick it up at the time (due to the wait time). We will often get coffee at Liturgy or Foster, and then just walk over when it's time. It's inside Durham Food Hall, which is, unfortunately, always quite loud, but there are tables outside and a park nearby you can sit at if you'd prefer. Overall, one of the better vegan options in the food hall.

I went to the Soul Cocina table at the Carrboro Farmers Market only to find that their food is…read moreoutrageously expensive. Vegan food costs little to make and there's no excuse to price-gouge the customer. Clearly, this vendor is targeting the wealthy CFM customer who knows little to nothing about the cost to make this food, only that they're supporting a 'good cause'. As a working-class individual I cannot afford to buy something so ordinary and undeserving from them. I'll take my business to their cheaper competitors.

Yummmmmmmmmmmmm!!!!…read more This food is so good. I ordered on-line and picked it up at the Durham Farmers Market. The food was all frozen which was great for packing up and taking home to Buffalo. I made the enchiladas the same day and the rest came home with me. The squash and poblano enchiladas were amazing. There're smothered in a creamy cashew based white sauce and stuff with seasoned saucy butternut squash, chopped poblanos, and navy beans. They were excellent and my non-vegan sister who has very high flavor standards thought so as well. The love of my life, who can be picky at times, tasted them as well and thought they were good. When I got back home I tried the pastel de yuca stuffed with black beans and rice. I put it in the air fryer for 15 minutes at 300 degrees and it was perfect. The instructions were for oven or microwave, but I think I made the right choice. It was big and tasty though I did steal some of the slaw that goes with the papusas for a little crunch and brightness. I also got tamales and the aforementioned papusas, but I they're still in the freezer. HIGHLY recommend. You can get it hot at the farmers market but if you want 100 things like I did, order ahead and either get it delivered for $5 or choose a pick-up site.

This is our favorite bakery in the area for several reasons. There is a wide variety of baked goods…read moreto choose from and nothing is too sweet. They make cookies, pastries, breads (pan loaf and hand-formed ones), soups, hand pies, and sandwiches. The variety is amazing. During the holiday season, they offer larger pies and have various seasonal goods to offer. But what's also wonderful is this bakery gives back to the community in many ways. During the height of the pandemic, they offered free bagged lunch to anyone who needed one. They also were (are?) part of the pilot project for Durham's guaranteed income. It looks to me that the owners/company are concerned about being good citizens of the community and that's a great thing. These days, so many companies get bought out by private equity companies. I hope this bakery continues to be locally owned and operated! (Also, generally this bakery isn't offering the very fancy European/European-ish style pastries which is fine by me. The prices are very reasonable, possibly in part because they aren't trying to make their baked goods a "high end" item. There are other good local bakeries that offer "high end" pastries, but they are also much less affordable and for my taste, too rich.)
