We thought bringing a foreign car to the rugged north - with no dealership in sight - was a dicey decision, but the folks at Ideal have taken care of everything that our precious VW Beetle needs. I feel that we are treated very well and we receive expert care here. As a woman, I'm giving extra kudos for the Ideal staff, because they make me feel heard and respected. I am an old school motor head, having wrenched on cars with Dad decades ago. Sadly, so many shops and dealerships have acted as if I didn't know a dipstick from a torque wrench. The folks at Ideal put me at ease right away and make me feel very confident with their estimates and opinions. While I never hope to have car trouble, I hope that I can always limp to Ideal to get things fixed!!

All the other shops couldn't get us in soon enough. Bartanen's Auto Body understood our situation (and danger) and got us in within a week and during Thanksgiving week! They took my car in for a headlight replacement, then explained I needed a new assembly and…read moreverbally quoted me a new one on the phone, I asked if I could purchase my own and bring it in. They said I could but said they would check their second-hand supplier. They called back and said they could get me a used one for $117 dollars. I asked them to order that part and we scheduled for a week later. They call me the day before my next appointment to say that they never ordered the part because they didn't know if I wanted it. I say no problem, and we reschedule for another week out. I get my car in the next week and they call me midday to explain that they can't align the headlights because the older headlight assembly is too oxidized, but they have a lens restoring system they trust and could use it then align the headlights. I reply that I'd like them to do it if it can be done today, but if not, that's okay and I'll pick the car up either way. At the end of the day they call to explain that they couldn't get it done, but I could schedule another time for them to finish it. When I arrive to pick up the car they give me an invoice with 2 concerning things: 1) A $350 headlight assembly billed because "that's the one they bought." 2)$110 dollars for a headlight alignment that never happened. I was able to let the shop manager hear the voicemail where they quoted me $117 dollars for the assembly. After that and a 5-10 minute conversation between their mechanic and shop manager, she offered me $140 dollar refund...still $90 more than their original quote for the assembly. They said they would do the alignment free of charge in the future, but left it on the bill for $110. I asked if she felt that they were obligated to the original quote for the assembly. She said no because that's not the one they bought and explained that their guy was "just learning the ropes." Overpriced, under experienced labor and poor communication on pricing. I want to keep my business at a locally-owned shop, but these guys are making it too difficult and too expensive. UPDATE: The shop manager contacted me over the weekend to apologize, make a plan for finishing the job and adjusting the pricing. Thanks for doing the right thing LeMoine's!
