I attended this school for six years, and while there were some positives, my overall experience…read morewas far from ideal. The positives first: there were a handful of teachers who genuinely cared about their students and went above and beyond to provide a meaningful education. Their classes were engaging, and in those rare rooms, you felt like your effort mattered. Unfortunately, they were the exception rather than the rule. The main issues: the environment was rigid and stifling, with a greater focus on enforcing a narrow interpretation of faith than on nurturing students as individuals. As a Christian myself, I expected a Christ-centered education rooted in grace, empathy, and truth. Instead, I often found myself pressured into assignments where I had to argue against my own beliefs in order to receive a good grade. If you do not belong to the Reformed denomination, be prepared to compromise your convictions and align with their doctrine just to succeed academically. I was even marked down on assignments for raising honest questions or making comments that didn't align closely enough with their views. On top of this, students struggling with mental health were rarely met with understanding. Instead of empathy or real support, they were often patronized and treated like children. Speaking up about personal struggles typically resulted in Bible verses being handed down without compassion or meaningful help. While Scripture is powerful, when it's used as a substitute for genuine care, it feels more like a weapon than a source of comfort. If you are considering this school, think carefully about the kind of environment you need. If you thrive in a strict, reformed framework, it may be a fit. But if you value empathy, critical thinking, and an atmosphere of authentic Christian love, this is NOT the right place for you. I can say without a shadow of a doubt that my time at this school was the worst time in my life. Even with (some) amazing teachers that I had, my overall experience was not at all good. From being treated like a child whenever I made a slight mistake instead of being met with forgiveness to the "hollier than thou" mindset of a lot of the teachers, I wouldn't recommend this school to anyone.

its an ok school, some of the staff are rude and disrespectful, some of the teachers argue with…read morestudents for no reason, one of the special ed teachers treat the students poorly and name calls, the school security takes a while to break up fights, you can never walk into the bathrooms without getting hit with a cloud of thc or vapes, some of the staff are helpful and actually care about the students while some seems like they are there just for the money, the school doesnt take reports seriously till its to late, theres also "la loma pages" on instagram and when they get brought up to the staff they brush it off, when a student reports another student have s/i they do absolutly nothing about it and brushes it off. Kanaly loves to harass some students to, the entire year someone i knew was being harassed and when they defended themselves she gave them detention. The schools automated messages are annoying to, pretty much getting calls every week. A student has also broken something of mine and when i reported it to the staff they did absolutely nothing. Some of the school security is pretty nice, Alexis and Angie are the sweetest and most helpful, The (majority) of the staff are helpful and have a lot of patience, 12-14 year olds are not easy to deal with and they (usually) handle situations well. Crazy to know a teacher was smokin weed in the middle of a class and a teacher kissing a student. The camp security john is a bit rude but can be nice sometimes, I have heard him saying several times that he cant wait for someone to act up so he can get them in trouble. Overall, not a bad school

Okay first of all, this school calls home for the dumbest things. I am sick and tired of my child…read moregetting in trouble for the most STUPIDEST things ever. Second of all, the PE teacher, Ms. Kanaly or whatever her name is I do not care at all. Do I have a fat bone to pick with her. She recently called home to get my child in trouble saying that he was not dressed out for PE. When in reality, his butt crack was just showing slightly. And he is pretty chunky but that shouldn't be a reason to call home. Yesterday, they called AGAIN. This reason was because my child finished state testing early. Can you believe they got him in trouble because he finished early. My daughter works as a substitute paraprofessional, she came home to me after working at the school for the first time telling me how the school gets kids in trouble for silly reasons. If they keep calling home, I will call MCS and put a huge complaint. I am sick and tired of my kid getting in trouble there. Also, the so called PE teacher has parents phone numbers on hand to call whenever she wants because she thinks she has the upper hand. DO NOT and I can not stress this enough DO NOT tell me to deal with my child with his behind. If I hear that again, coming from a school staff employee I will not hesitate to call the superintendent.

Many of the teachers and coaches are personally invested and involved in the development of their student's into young adults that will live their lives for Christ and be successful responsible citizens in the future. I do contend that there are still some class issues among the high school students. (However, not uncommon in any high school) I think the staff and the parent leaders need to focus on inclusion of all kids no matter the background and try hard to invite in new parents and children into their smaller circles. Staff planning should also consider that some families have both parents working in the home so including all kids and parents means considering working hours for special events or people will be left out.

Let me explain : Continually throughout my experience in this school there have been issues with bullying. This is not something I only experienced, but also saw happening to other students. When brought the attention of admin, they would brush off or excuse these students behaviors discipline in this school is not properly formatted at all. Students will get Saturday schools for toilet papering someone's house on the weekend outside of school whereas a student who was sexually harassing multiple girls and sending nudes, got suspended for three days and was allowed to come back to the school. Discrimination in this school is a very real thing and is apparent. If you are from a wealthy family or you donate to the school or you have connections within the school, you will have a great time at the school. Your kids will get away with whatever they would like to do, regardless of who it harms. As someone who is not in that circle, my concerns were never properly addressed. I was brushed off. My little sister also attended this school since fifth grade. This last year she was a seventh grader so we were on the same campus. Every single week was a different fight with extreme bullying down to kids getting physical and there being no repercussions besides a slap on the wrist. I began to have to step in. When I would try to reach out to administration or Davenport they were just seem frustrated with me for even trying to help and stated "it's just standard junior high bullying." as if these things my sister was experiencing were acceptable. Besides the disciplinary and administration side of the school, the education as well as the teachers also fall short of expectations. This last year I struggled with extreme health issues that made miss over a third of the whole year. I had doctors notes I was in and out of the ER. The school had promised to be accommodating and said that they would help me out given the fact that I have doctors notes. This did not happen. Teachers at the school are rude. I specifically struggled with my Spanish teacher. Her grading was inconsistent and for the final we were not even given the rubric until she was grading the final. She had also changed up the scoring for the final the day we were all submitting it. I gave a teacher late work with the doctors note and emailed her away before grades were finalized. She failed to put them in four weeks and then I got a letter from administration saying the grades were finalized in the our needs to submit a formal complete in order to get my work graded. This email was not polite. This email was rude and the exact opposite of what administration had said they would do. Prior to this year of school I was an honorable student. And now I'm having to retake classes that I should've passed because of unfair grading and lazy teachers.

She is hands on and does a lot of community work to benefit the families that attend. That being said, I feel this jewel of a school could use more funding... there are so many missed opportunities that could easily be solved with better support from the state. (Why do the "richer" neigbourhoods get all the financial grants for their school when it is schools like this one that need it more. )

I think Gabriela (one star review) did make a point that I heard my son make in that the popular kids and athletes are put on a pedestal. But hasn't that always been the case. His advice on classes is take the advance placement or AP classes instead of the regular classes. He found that the teachers are more engaged and the students better behaved. In the advanced classes he was "always" able to complete his homework in class because work time was quite. My son is now at Chico State and thriving thanks to the foundation that Gregori HS gave him. One last comment to Gabriela, no school is perfect and it is great that you support your child, but you need to potentially look within to identify what or who the true source of your discontent is.
