As a parent that has had 2 kids in public school before coming to BV, I can say it is such a blessing to have my child here. Many of the teachers and coaches are personally invested and involved in the development of their student's into young adults that will live their lives for Christ and be successful responsible citizens in the future. I do contend that there are still some class issues among the high school students. (However, not uncommon in any high school) I think the staff and the parent leaders need to focus on inclusion of all kids no matter the background and try hard to invite in new parents and children into their smaller circles. Staff planning should also consider that some families have both parents working in the home so including all kids and parents means considering working hours for special events or people will be left out. read more

I had attended big valley beginning in eighth grade. I am now a senior. Both me and my parents decided that big Valley was not the right fit for me and are pulling me out for my senior year. Let me explain : Continually throughout my experience in this school there have been issues with bullying. This is not something I only experienced, but also saw happening to other students. When brought the attention of admin, they would brush off or excuse these students behaviors discipline in this school is not properly formatted at all. Students will get Saturday schools for toilet papering someone's house on the weekend outside of school whereas a student who was sexually harassing multiple girls and sending nudes, got suspended for three days and was allowed to come back to the school. Discrimination in this school is a very real thing and is apparent. If you are from a wealthy family or you donate to the school or you have connections within the school, you will have a great time at the school. Your kids will get away with whatever they would like to do, regardless of who it harms. As someone who is not in that circle, my concerns were never properly addressed. I was brushed off. My little sister also attended this school since fifth grade. This last year she was a seventh grader so we were on the same campus. Every single week was a different fight with extreme bullying down to kids getting physical and there being no repercussions besides a slap on the wrist. I began to have to step in. When I would try to reach out to administration or Davenport they were just seem frustrated with me for even trying to help and stated "it's just standard junior high bullying." as if these things my sister was experiencing were acceptable. Besides the disciplinary and administration side of the school, the education as well as the teachers also fall short of expectations. This last year I struggled with extreme health issues that made miss over a third of the whole year. I had doctors notes I was in and out of the ER. The school had promised to be accommodating and said that they would help me out given the fact that I have doctors notes. This did not happen. Teachers at the school are rude. I specifically struggled with my Spanish teacher. Her grading was inconsistent and for the final we were not even given the rubric until she was grading the final. She had also changed up the scoring for the final the day we were all submitting it. I gave a teacher late work with the doctors note and emailed her away before grades were finalized. She failed to put them in four weeks and then I got a letter from administration saying the grades were finalized in the our needs to submit a formal complete in order to get my work graded. This email was not polite. This email was rude and the exact opposite of what administration had said they would do. Prior to this year of school I was an honorable student. And now I'm having to retake classes that I should've passed because of unfair grading and lazy teachers. read more

I personally attend high school here and some staff i absolutely adore wholeheartedly but the learning environment absolutely sucks they do nothing for disciplinary acts. I was bullied there for many years I had attended for 12 years of school and had many problems here and they were never dealt with if you are rich or your child has social status you will be fine but if you do not fit into that demographic, you will be constantly bullied and put down through anything that you do. I was also fat shamed a lot here for a school that is supposed to be Christian. It shows nothing of that aspect at all the school overall made me extremely depressed and losing myself throughout the years that I had went begging my mom to take me out, but because I was diagnosed with ADHD and dyslexia, very young they helped in elementary school, but they said that kids with those" disabilities" use them as a crutch, and that wouldn't fly with them I have been suspended over a nose piercing when there was other things that they could've been paying attention to other than my one singular nose piercing that didn't distract anybody, but because it was an important part of dress code that I dressed like a Christian I was in the wrong for having my nose pierced. I felt like I had gone to the office so many times for issues that they didn't fix and I was constantly annoying them and towards the end of my school years there I felt like I was getting targeted through the actions that they had possessed when I would bring up something that was bothering me or need help. They would just pray about it and tell you you're fine and go away pretty much if you value your child's mental health, please do not take them here. read more

Large issue with sexual texting and bullying with little to no accountability. Not a true approach of biblical discipline and behaviour corrections wish I could be refunded but last year for our children at this school. I hope the boy sending naked nudes of himself is going to be expelled. Also, issues of theft and clothes being tossed in toilets along with major bullying. Needs to have some consequential actions to behavior no matter how much these children's parents donate. GOD, please train up this admin to run this school properly under biblical terms as I see over 5 1-star ratings in the last year so this usually points to something or someone, correct and guide them. Big valley has been apart of my life starting at tk all the way through 12th grade, I'd like to just start off by saying, this is not a school that will take care of bullies, I was bullied starting at 5th grade all the way to my 12th year, not once has anyone done anything about it, rather than fixing the issue they would rather send you to counseling instead, I begged my parents to pull me multiple times due to bullying and the lack of discipline in this school, the principal cindy alvesos was not helping students rather just harping on students about education, the teachers awful, one Spanish teacher would touch the girls, female teachers took highly of the male students, they hired people who had issues, and took great responsibility of being too friendly with their students, some previous teachers said they did not want to work at big valley, most students hate it at big valley, not once did anyone look out for the Students that were bullied, in my opinion this school should not be a school, instead of helping students learn the bible they forced it onto us, this school makes public school look so good, and when I have my own children I will definitely not be sending them to this school, this school is honestly weird and not clean, I would not send any more children to the highschool. read more

Academically, I don't think the school is as strong as some of the public schools (speaking at a high school level). Secondly, I don't think the culture here is great. My kid is bullied and made fun of during worship. The bullying is a problem, I'd say worse than a public school since the student body is so small. Administration is more responsive when bringing up issues vs. public schools, but I don't believe anything is being done to address the culture issues. I hear that a lot of kids are leaving but as far as I know, nobody is hearing them out to determine why they are leaving. At the end of the day it's hard to justify paying to go here when the issues are as bad or worse than a public school. We decided to move our child here for the spiritual growth but it was really tough with the culture issues. read more

The worst school ever. I went to this school form first grade till eight grade and the discrimination,racism, and ranking in the school is the worst. Throughout all my years i struggled through racism and was called the n word with the hard r as well for years. I would constantly report it and express my feelings about this and the most they would do is say they were sorry and send me back to class. Never held accountability or taught others not to do that. The education was horrible as well i was a straight A student and never struggled in my studies. I was was in honor roll and was consistent with my work. But once i hit seventh grade i had a sub as a science teacher the whole year who taught nothing at all. All she did was be on her phone and then when we would have test everyone would fail. The principal came in multiple times and had different subs come in and try to teach us the lesson to do retakes. I didn't learn anything the whole year and had to retake physical science freshman year instead of being ahead (like they promote) and being in biology. Same for math luckily i was able to recover end of the year and move into geometry my freshman year at public school. The staff here are also extremely racist and unprofessional like the disciplinary Mr. Davenport who constantly was talking about all the money he supposedly had? And then bragging constantly about how the school spent thousands of dollars in bleachers and a new screen for the football stadium when they were literally days where the toilets would stop working and we would have unfiltered water! The bullying in the school is horrible! Constantly the teachers would not talk to you or pay attention to you if your family wasn't well known or donated a great sum of money. Allowed my daughter to be abused by a fellow male student repeatedly, right in front of the teacher, and did nothing about it. Once the incidents were reported to administrators, nothing was done about it. They even failed to report it to law enforcement and the proper channels that Mandated Reporters are required to go through. Anything to protect their income and cover up their negligence. To add insult to injury, I was asked by the former principal, (who is now Superintendent) if I would please continue to allow the boy who hurt my daughter to stay in her class. Furthermore, if your child has special needs, they will not succeed here. I was told by the principal that there is no special education program at Big Valley, and no IEPs or 504 plans would be accepted there. If your child needs for accommodations or modifications to thrive in their learning environment, do not place them at this school. Big Valley also "lost" my daughter's records with the diagnosis that THEY had provided for her, and probably all record of their negligence in the abuse that goes on at that school. How convenient. The teachers and staff care about the students, the academics are rigorous to prepare your child for the next grade. We have wonderful elementary programs like PE, library & music each with teachers for those subjects. Lots of fun activities for families to enjoy such as Grandparents' Day, the Christmas Concert & Spring Concert and Open House. We have a great Theater Department for grades 3-12. Athletics helps nurture the students character as well as athletic ability. Our administration is personable, approachable, Christ focused and knows the students. Two of our children now attend Big Valley Christian School and our third child will in 2 years. We absolutely love this school. The staff is made up of amazing people who love the Lord and our children. It is great to see people whos desire is to invest into our children. We made the choice to send our children to private school because we are not confident with the public school system. There are many amazing teachers in the public school system, but our Government does not have our teachers or our children's best interest in mind. I had the ability to walk through classrooms of all ages at BVCS and was impressed by the classrooms and teachers. When I spoke to some of the students I was amazed at how well they were able to carry a conversation with me. So far we are three years into BVCS and we love the school more than the day my oldest started preschool. I went to look at the school for my daughter who will be entering Pre-K. Scheduled an appointment and everything just to be stood up. Just trying to figure out the campus was a little confusing. I was walking around everywhere and no one questioned me or asked if I needed help. I waited for the preschool director in front of her office for about an 45 minutes and decided to find the main office. It took awhile because all sign said main office East building but doesn't point you in any direction. Once I found it they gals in there were helpful but gossiping about someone's divorce and then gave me a mini tour because they just couldn't find where the director was. With the size of the school and lack of concern of who was on campus has lead me to look for an alternative education for my daughter. It has nothing to do with their education system. It could be great but security didn't sit well with me. read more
