I look forward to playing Bear Trap each yr that we vacay at BB. It's always in great shape, has those famous forgiving fairways curled up some on the sides, and is challenging for those who are not on it continuously. Staff is pleasant, will wash your blades whether they're dirty or not, and the Coastal Kitchen (full name?) onsite has an incredible chef. It's not a super posh environment but who needs that? Don't miss prime rib nites! This June we also were invited to Woodstock Nite on the patio. And DJ Mayhew had all that incredible live WS music on his huge console. He could easily call up requests for us to dance to - with the course laid out nicely behind us. Greens fees are a bit pricey if you want to play at popular weekend times. Private club amenities for a public course. I paid only $35 to tee off at 3:30 for 9 holes on Man O' War. The other 18-hole Scottish style links style, War Admiral, was occupied with a county government tournament. I am told that is extremely challenging and picturesque. Also more expensive. My $35 price included an electric car, unlimited range balls, putting green, and adult men (not kids) loading my bags into my cart. They treated me like a rich person who belongs to a private club. I might have given the wrong impression because I wore a Brooks Brothers polo shirt! I did give tips, which seemed to be appreciated. I asked which group I would be joining, and was surprised to learn I was going out on my own, which I like, because I have been known to take a Mulligan or three. There has been a lot of rain, but I have to say the course was in amazing shape for late July. There were four different tees to choose from, depending on your skill and desire. I golfed from the white tees. The carts have coolers with ice, a GP screen with directions, and distances for each hole. I have my own phone app for that but That's a helpful feature ... if you use it. Unfortunately, I did not look closely enough on the map for the ninth hole. I hit my longest and straightest drive of the day only to discover a large marsh is right in front of the green. My ball must've rolled right into it. There is a drop area for people like me who don't read maps but it was still a 130 yard nine iron to the green with 115 yards of that marsh. To avoid further embarrassment, I won't report what happened next. It was the most picturesque and memorable hole on the front nine and I blew it! The rest of the front nine is in great shape as I said, but none of the holes are real memorable. However, I am certainly not complaining for the price, which was a bargain. I even went back to the practice range to hit more free balls off grass after I was done with my nine holes. That helped me realize I was not following through on my swing. One more thing. There is a high end Ruth's Chris steak House on the property. I have only seen these in urban areas before where there were a lot of business people with an expense account. My only complaint is there was very little water on the course and it was a 90° July day. I did not see a beverage cart. Maybe they were occupied with the tournament. Fortunately I brought lots of water but I could have been in physical trouble if I had not. If you want to be treated like a big shot on a well-groomed golf course, and only pay 35 bucks, I highly recommend this experience. On a future vacation, I will be back to hopefully play 18 holes and read all the GPS maps! read more

Definitely overpriced - the tee boxes need work, they are in rough shape the fairways are amazing though with how little rain we have received. The greens are fast but well kept. The course overall is a nice setup we played Black Bear and Grizzly. One of the holes was shut down as we were literally teeing up, because of a water leak on a par 3. I wish they would have thrown something in for that played 17 holes not the full 18. Maybe a bucket of balls for the range. The range was 15.99 for a small basket of balls which again was a little overpriced. I'm giving it three stars because of the hole closure and the price. read more

Bear trap is beautiful and in a perfect place near tons of great restaurants and the beach. I have no idea why people are complaining about the prices Bear Trap is one of the nicest golf courses in the area. Don't stay somewhere nice and be upset about higher prices lol. This place is so overpriced is actually comical. Rum Point, Lighthouse, Bayside and Baywood are the same price and make this course look like putt putt. Weekend rates during peak season exceed $150 and doesn't include range balls (that's another $12 for 10 balls). The course itself is overplayed with bumpy greens and a fairly boring layout. Carl Freeman Company is completely taking advantage of the non local renters and bending everyone over. If your willing to pay the fees go to the other courses mentioned above. We love staying at Bear Trap Dunes. We've stayed here many times and we highly recommend the award-winning, amenity-rich resort community. The location is 2.5-3 miles to Bethany Beach with beach shuttle service available 7 days per week from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekend. The outdoor and indoor pools are heated and staffed with lifeguards including the 2 kiddy pools. The hot tub, saunas, fitness gym, on site restaurant, clay tennis courts and 3 on-site golf courses offered so much more than anything else nearby. Looking forward to coming back again! read more

I was really looking forward to playing here. Heard so much about it. We understand that the amount of rain this area has seen makes things difficult, but we were extremely disappointed in the conditions of the sand traps and some of the greens. I would not recommend spending that kind of money to play a mediocre course. read more

We had 2 tee times wit 7 people. One was 85 years old, and two were new golfers. We were conscious of pace of play and played 9 holes in under 2 hours. By the 4th hole a group behind us, intentionally hit into us. Shortly there after, the ranger pulled up and said we needed to speed up. The people behind were complaining, "AND THEY ARE MEMBERS!!!!". If you can survive on only member play, more power to you. The course was in good shape, and fun to play. However, that staff member ruined it for our party. We play every year when we visit Bethany Beach. Next year we will need to reassess and go somewhere else. The staff needs to have a better understanding of the situation. A 1:50 9 hole round is NOT a slow pace of play. read more

Not disabled friendly. Management refused to issue a disabled flag. Could not access some tees and greens and could not play some holes. Traps in terrible shape, not raked and grass growing in them. read more

3 solid courses and the layouts are slightly different and the staff was on par with what I would expect of a great course. The club house is a classic and the par 5s were fun and challenging to reach in 2. The par 4s are a great length to have birdie attempts which I did. That is a simple humble brag. This is an affordable go to for Bethany Beach players. The pace of play is slow but the Marshalls did their best to keep it moving. Played 3 days in a row and each day was better than the last. read more

Do not play this course if you have even the slightest bit of talent and take golf even somewhat serious. I can only equate the pace of play to standing in line at Disney. There is very little attention to replacement of divots, fixing ball marks, etc. I understand it's a public course but it is quite apparent management cares only about packing the course. The only positive were the cart guys. They were very nice and courteous. Will never return. read more

Saw one reviewer said the place was run my prison guards. Could not have been further from my experience. Nice staff and the rangers were great. Huge storm came thru the day before and it was cart path only. The green were in great shape. Pace of play was great. 3:45 for 18 holes. read more

Returned to BT June 2015. Tee time after 3 , very hot and humid. No cart girl for drinks was a minus. Wonderful course, chipping green in way back is very nice. Fairways and greens were excellent. Very nice staff and round was under 4 hours. Great job Bear Trap! read more

Played here on Sept. 29 as part of an outing for eight, and the course was in great condition. The fairways are a little narrower than what is comfortable, but it's a challenging setup. Appreciated that a marshal drove the course reminding every group to keep pace or else face the prospect of skipping a hole. read more

LDW and all week the range is either closed or on mats. Their response was that the range gets beat up...its a driving range!! Used to enjoy practicing at this facility but will take my money elsewhere now. read more
