Tall Timber Lodge & Cabins

Tall Timber Lodge & Cabins

First off, let me just start by saying we went up to Pittsburgh to have a nice relaxing weekend. We…read morestayed in the Evergreen cabin, which we have stayed several times in the past and had a great experience. The Friday night that we arrived there a bad storm came through and wiped the power out which we lost heat and of course, the electricity around 11 PM to roughly 5:30 am which made for a very cold night with no extra blankets. A giant tree fell on top of our cabin, I have to say it was very frightening, and my husband, nor myself got any sleep that night, not knowing if we were safe in that cabin. In the morning I proceeded to call the front desk and make them aware of the tree that had fallen and asked if they could send someone over to check out the structure of the cabin. I also stated that I felt we should receive some compensation because we basically lost a night due to the fear of what had happened to the cabin not to mention it was freezing cold.. They did state they would give me $100 back which I think was not acceptable considering we paid 300 a night. I waited approximately two hours and a young man came looked up at the cabin and basically told us he knew nothing about structure and trees, but he would try to find someone to look at it. Two hours later someone from a tree service pulled up in the road about 100 yards away from the cabin parked for about 20 seconds and drove away. We never heard from front desk again to let us know if the structure was safe and they left the tree on the cabin all day and the following night. Needless to say, it was not relaxing in any way shape or form and they obviously didn't care how we felt about the situation. I will say they did offer us to move to a cabin across the way but at that point if I had to pack everything up and move, I was going home. We specifically picked Evergreen because it's the cabin we had been staying in for years. They are just lucky that we were not injured because things could have been way worse for Tall Timbers. Let me add there was an eight foot overhang on the metal roof that could have let go at any moment... had to be cautious to stay away from the edge of the building!!!

Had a great time -- only drawback was the driveway into Mallard Rock is so steep and narrow, you…read moreneed to be pretty good at backing in the trailer. Also, if you don't drive your vehicle every day, the sub-freezing temps will freeze the sensors sitting at that angle!

Burke Mountain Hotel & Conference Center - Room

The Hotel looks amazing from the outside, however; once you step inside the hallways are hot, some…read moreof the older employees are not very professional. I had to wait in line for 15 min to reserve a room for the next day, then I was told I had to call as the women behind the from desk did not know how to book a reservation, she also did not seem to be a fan of my dog whom I took on the trip with me. The room was not what I expected, no warm blankets on the bed, felt like I was in a hospital bed with the cheap blankets, shower only had half a door, making the shower experience a cold one. The food was ok, chicken was chewy. Although I lived in VT and would walk the beautiful grounds of the property, would never stay there again.

Burke mountain is an absolute hidden gem. We have been coming here for several years with our kids…read morewho are now 15 and 18. Burke Mountain has something for all levels of skiers and the surrounding town is quaint and lovely. My only criticism is that I would prefer to not enjoy the hot tub with Burke employees that are preaching about Burke Mountains ongoing financial challenges. We get it, it's hard to run an amazing resort in challenging times and Burke has a history. I just don't want to hear about it on repeat when I'm trying to support the company by coming here year after year (times 10yrs) and relax while doing so. ("He and she" employees that were there 2/20/25 should do better if they want to support the future of this lovely resort). Families and folks looking for an amazing mountain to enjoy, please support Burke. Burke management, require better of your employees.
