We are fans of Adirondack furniture and household items so it's a pleasure stopping in. There are beautiful signs and various different pieces. It's easy to spend a large chunk of time here. The items are a little pricy but the quality warrants the cost, in my opinion. There is really so much to look through and there's even a pleasant little indoor waterfall toward the back of the store. If you're taking a walk up Main Street, I'd suggest stopping in. You may find something you love.

I absolutely LOVE this store!! It's completely my style and full of bear decor (my favorite…read moreanimal). The shop has so much to look at, especially since there's a second floor as well. I bought a few small things because the store is a bit expensive. As much as I wanted to buy about half the store, I couldn't justify the high cost of pretty much anything here. The store is clean but cramped. It's filled as much as it can be with the lodge-themed decor. The staff are amazing! I was juggling quite a few things from other shops and even though I only bought two small items (a patch and magnet), the cashier gave me a giant bag to put everything in. I definitely recommend visiting this neat store but do go in knowing there will be something you like AND it's expensive.

NOT RECOMMENDED!! Extremely rude service…read more I walked in and 40 minutes into it I had at least $500 of merchandise on the counter and was getting ready to check out. There was only one other person in the store; a man who walked in about 30 minutes after I was there wanting to buy a dining chair. The owner who was getting ready to check me out, was also talking to the man about the chair. He then told me he was going to help that man pull the chair out first. My husband told me that we should leave because it was rude. Well, I thought nothing of it at first, until the owner returned to the register and began to check the man out at the register right in front of me. It was then I realized this guy clearly had no intention of helping me. So then I decided to gather my husband and my daughter and walk out. This ranks up there with the few times I've been treated with rudeness and patronizing unkindness. I will never go back to this place. There are plenty other places in Lake Placid and Keene, NY that sell just as good, same, if not better stuff than this place. NOT RECOMMENDED!!!

Snow shoe rental was $15/day and if you drop it off the following day with store open, they only charged us for one day which was great. I also picked up some socks and gloves here. The sock selection is great for winter-y sports sort of stuff and I got some liners as well as hefty mountaineering socks. The mountaineering socks were priced at a premium for $29 for one pair, but they have a lifetime guarantee and I haven't regretted buying them. I've used them outside the hike numerous times during the blustery Buffalo weather where I'm from. I also bought a pair of mittens and man the mittens here were very expensive! The cheapest pair I could find was $89, but they are indeed very warm and hopefully will last me for a very long time with many outdoor winter adventures to be had in said mittens. All in all, the staff at the store was great and honest and didn't try to upsell us on anything we may not need. I'd definitely recommend stopping into the Mountaineer -- some knowledgable staff and great equipment! They also rent hiking boots and crampons!
