I visited this gym for a (non-Groupon) coupon that I had. Prior to this, I didn't even know this…read moregym existed. I am a regular at the Cliffhanger gyms in Vancouver and Coquitlam, so I was curious to see how things might be done differently in this gym. The set-up of the place is cozy, and the people are really friendly. The space is not very big but the variety of climbs they offer, relative to the square footage that they have to work with, is probably the best I've seen. Low angle friction climbs, lead, overhang - and the first time I saw completely horizontal ceiling/roof routes. The routes are more difficult than that of Cliffhanger, with a closer simulation of the outdoors (they use some real rocks as holds as well). Lots of bouldering problems - most are not graded as V-something but just Easy/Medium/Hard. (But the "Easy" ones aren't that easy.) The place gave me an impression of it being a sort of "climber's lab" - where the good climbers experiment with routes and moves and techniques. They probably start out doing this for themselves or for their buddies - but the result is a mix of really interesting climbs that make you think. It was actually quite humbling. They didn't charge us for the belay/lead test, which was nice. The girl (Jennifer) gave us helpful tips during the tests as well. If the location were more suitable, I would love to be a regular here.

Good place for a quick climb, varied levels of difficulties for climbers of all levels…read more Doug, the owner is an awesome guy- always super cheerful and friendly. Same goes for the rest of the staff, however, I'd avoid this place from 11-1pm on the weekends since it's a hot time for children's birthday parties. So plenty of chances to get kicked in the head by one, or you know, vice-versa, but either way, bad. Definitely go for lessons if you're new, or if you need a refresher course. The instructors are all really helpful.
