The new Broadgate Circle development looks pretty amazing, and just by chance my friend and I decided to go to Beany Green, which is apparently known for its amazing espresso cocktails. Everything was really new and still a work in progress - for example, the Broadgate website said that Beany Green closes at 6:30 PM, but we showed up at 6:29 and asked, and it really closes at 9:30 PM. We asked for a drinks menu, but they said that was coming in Friday. And we tried to pay by Amex, but that won't be up and running until next week. That said, the staff was exuberantly helpful (especially in listing off every drink they could possibly serve), and throughout our time there, they brought over free porchetta and cheddar toasties that totally hit the spot. I would have ordered a plate if I could, but we were told that it was for tasters only. We sat at one of their outside tables with a bottle of Australian white wine, looking down into the circle, where the newly opened The Botanist had drawn a large crowd of outdoor standing drinkers. I also noticed Shoryu, Comptoir Lebanais, and Aubaine, all great restaurants that I have visited in other parts of London. The bathroom was down the stairs and down a corridor that smelled like fresh paint, but I was also kindly directed there by another friendly staff member. The whole place is so great; I can tell that I will be spending a lot of time there this summer. read more
