A gem. This is the best 100% cacao bar I've ever had. It was fresh, hand made on site (which you can watch), and stored in a climate controlled chocolate "humidor" until sold. This attention to detail shows in the final product: a pure, one ingredient product. 100% chocolate like this has no bitterness; it consists of rich, exquisite flavours with beautiful mouth feel. Don't let the low quality corporate dark chocolates you may have tried, with their bitterness, poor quality ingredients, and months on the shelf scare you away from a once in a lifetime opportunity to taste this amazing product. This place makes some stellar hot chocolate. None of the powdered stuff that you get at Tim Hortons. Fernie, I am impressed. The hot chocolates come in three flavours: milk, dark and Mayan. The Mayan is a bit of kick to it but it's much more subtle than I imagined. The gelato is also quite popular as many of the customers ahead of us ordered gelato as well. Love the decor of this place. Purple and red suede couches line the open interior. You can also take a look at how they make the chocolate in the back. I'm not usually a chocolate lover but this place has won me over. read more

Gelato. Go here. Get some. Samples are plentiful, if you don't believe me and need to try it for yourself. I am a huge, huge fan of rhubarb and my body is not a fan of dairy. They made (local) rhubarb gelato that was divine! It's the perfect mix of sweet and sugary, just like a rhubarb pie (an actual rhubarb pie, not a stawberry-rhubarb halfling). In case rhubarb doesn't float your boat and you want to leave it all for me (thank you), then you should get the raspberry-rose one instead. Yes, rose. It's not even rose extract, it is actual crushed rose petals. You can't see them, they're blended in, but it gives the gelato an amazing flavour. I never would have believed that roses taste good and not at all like licking old-lady-perfume, but they do and it is excellent! Again, don't believe me? Get a sample, or several! read more

This is a wonderful place if you love chocolate as much as I do. So many verity of chocolate with funky names. This chocolatier is very good at what we does. In the back of the store you can look at his work station, if your lucky you can actually see him working on his creation! There is seating in the must comfortable sofas with your hot drink and yummy chocolate. Well worth the stop. read more

The owner was super friendly and knowledgeable and really takes a lot of pride in all the gelato, chocolate, and the coffee roasted on site. The Beanpod is a regular favourite (and must see) on my Fernie visits and drive thrus. Touted as being ran by a lady who is one of the few true chocolatiers in Canada (I think there are three in total), this place makes really great chocolate. Placed in a corner unit in "downtown" Fernie, the shop has a cool glass wall that allows visitors to see all the behind the scenes of chocolate making. Large crushers and mixers are in full view to your mouth watering delight! A very cool process to see for sure (they will explain as much as you would like to know if you ask - they like their chocolate!). Service is great as the wife and husband pair are super friendly and forthcoming and helpful. The shop also serves really great coffee to pair up with chocolate (try the mocha of course). Favourites in the chocolate bar category are : Passionfruit, HONEYCOMB, pure milk, and the brazil nuts versions. The individuals come in an array but the PB&J is not for the weak of heart. This is an amazing place. Wonderful hand crafted chocolate. They roast there cacao beans which are bought from small scale sustainable non child labour farms. The finished product Is amazing. I think the best espresso chocolate I've ever tasted. They grind coffee beans with the cacao beans in the beginning of the process and the result is amazing. Smooth melt in your mouth chocolate that tastes like espresso and melts in your mouth like butter. No yucky coffee ground feel at all. Yumm read more

Didn't feel the love. Went to the counter and ordered a mocha and 2 chocolate bars @ $13 each. The owner took my order and then gave free liquid chocolate samples to 2 other people standing at the counter but not me, who had just ordered $30 worth of stuff...I would have liked a little chocolate lollypop while I waited for my order! The place has fab funky comfy sofas, great kids stuff, lovely window displays and an amazing glass wall view of the chocolate room. I didn't like the aroma of burnt toast (which is apparent for a 2 block radius) or overpriced chocolate bars. Without the added Christmas atmosphere, the high-ceiling emptiness would have made me feel very uncomfortable. My bars had 'blooms' (those wavy chalky lines which occur when chocolate isn't tempered properly) which don't affect the flavour, but for $13 for 200g I expect my chocolate to look glossy and gorgeous and be tempered properly. I also expect it to come in pretty packaging. That's not to say expensive; I just don't like crumpled tinfoil-type paper and faded computer-printed (on the economy setting) labels. I'll give it another go, but for the price I expect more. read more
