Absolutely worth the stop -- best coffee and pastries in Coeur d'Alene We visited Evans Brothers Coffee (connected with Bean & Pie) on the last morning of our trip -- and honestly, it was the highlight of our café stops. The coffee was arguably the best we had anywhere in Coeur d'Alene: smooth, rich, and clearly made with care. You can taste the difference in the roast quality and technique. We also picked up two hand pies from Bean & Pie -- peach and apricot. They share a spot with Evans Brothers Coffee and they have a wide variety of hand pies and cookies to choose from. There's plenty of space and a perfect spot for work, hanging out with friends or family, or perfect for a drop-in while walking around downtown. The cookies are large and can be a meal in itself (the s'mores cookie is my favorite). They even have several that are vegan, and they have a vegan chikn' pot pie that is absolutely delicious and they always seem to be running low because of this. Only drawback, the hand pies are a bit pricey for their size, so that's the reason for four stars instead of five. read more

With a name like being in pie, we figured this place had about a 95% chance of being awesome at a 5% chance of being something different than what we were expecting. As what we were hoping for was delicious pie and coffee, our expectations were met, and with the unexpected addition of savory pies, our expectations were exceeded! It's located off the main street a half a block or so and tucked back into a building. There's some decent signage outside, but if you didn't see the sign on the main street it would be easy to mess. The place is rather expansive with a very large area to sit inside that includes some long tables as well as some some comfortable and more modern couches and chairs. The artwork on the walls is fun and they've got lots of swag for sale from both the coffee shop as well as the pie shop. They definitely have a specialization in sweet pies. We grabbed a strawberry rhubarb one that was 6 inches in diameter and it was perfect to take home and have that evening! We also had two savory pies as our family is always down for savory! If you've never had a savory pie, imagine a fancy hot pocket that doesn't cause bowel distress. We tried a chicken pot pie and a biscuits and gravy one - both were excellent! My expression shot was solid, large and served on a lovely cross section of wood. This is a great spot to jump in and out of, or hang for a bit. I remember hearing about how wonderful these pies were, from people who were lucky enough to get them (before selling out) at the Farmer's Market. I finally got the opportunity to try it for a special occasion. Special it was... HOLY MOLY this 10" pie was EXPENSIVE ($32 for a Salted Caramel Apple)! I have to say it was delicious. Not sure how often I would buy one at that price though. I also purchased a Lavender Latte. The barista did do a good making the coffee. I enjoyed it and especially the "love," special touch. The biggest disappointment was the breakfast hand pie. As you can see it looks absolutely delicious in the photo. However, I would not recommend it. I was on the search for the best mixed berry pie in the area! After trying a few different places, I realized that the best pie is based on personal preference. We got the 2 hand pies: huckleberry and rhubarb and a mixed berry mini pie. The hand pies were very good and the very convenient for walking around the market. The mixed berry was good, but after a direct comparison, not quite our style. The filling was thick and gelatin, almost like a jam. The flavor was good though and if this is how you like your pie then I highly recommend. We learned that we loved a crumble top and a more natural berry center, so a las, this place did not take our blue ribbon, but this might be the perfect place for you. And it's the best place to get a hand pie to enjoy while walking around the farmers market. read more

They do a great job with pastry. We asked the guy what were the popular savory pies. He pointed out the chicken and truffle Mac and cheese. I thought Mac and cheese in pastry sounded like a little too much but we went for it along with one salted caramel - all hand pies. Delicious food, friendly staff, helping out in the community...what's not to like? Bean & Pie is one of my favorite places to eat in CDA and Spokane! Highly recommend trying out if you haven't made it there yet. Easy to get to in Coeur d'Alene, or take advantage of their drive-through pop-up shops when they come into Spokane. The last time they were in Spokane I asked some friends and neighbors if they wanted to go in on an order with me - it was so simple to pre-order, pick up via a drive-through and drop off at their houses - turned out to be a big (COVID-friendly) hit for several families!
