There were some coins that were face value and he advised us to 'just spend them'. The comments and interactions were fair, open and we felt we were selling to a reputable and honest dealer. We appreciated the honesty and transparency during the transaction. We had stopped at another coin shop prior to this visit and the dealer acted like he was doing us a favor just to talk to us and although he scanned the inventory, never even asked to see the coins. What a contrast to our visit to Raines Rare Coins.

I came in to get a diamond reset which had came loose over the years and their expertise and demeanor made me feel confident in their ability to fix it and take care of it. I came to get it today and it was as perfect and sparkly as the day my husband put it on my hand. I love this place and they've earned a new life long customer.

She dangled my bracelet at me, and dropped it in my hand while shuffling me out the door, apparently I was not as important as their preferred clientele who spend big bucks on glittering diamond necklaces & rings as prominently displayed in their store. I didn't let it go at that, and argued the point that I had done business with them before, and felt her disposition was (hard business) rather than a friendly store for repeat customers. As it turned out, when I went across town to another store that was very similar, a store with glittering tennis diamond necklaces on black velvet displays, in there also were an aging couple minding the store that they own, with a helpful clerk and a bench jeweler. To my relief, my request was granted without hassle, for a price of $70.00. It was so worth it, because later that evening when I searched on line for a similar tennis gemstone bracelet set in gold, the price now is around $1,200. about 6 X what I paid for in 2009. As far as I'm concerned, my request was important, and rather an intelligent one.

While I enjoyed the atmosphere, I was slightly disappointed by the limited tea options, which are all bagged rather than loose-leaf. There aren't any baked goods, just packaged snacks, which may not appeal to everyone. Everything is reasonably priced. It's a nice place to visit for a short break or a focused work session, but I wouldn't plan to stay for long due to the limited food and drink selection. Still, the peaceful ambiance and unique offerings make it worth checking out. There is plenty of street parking and Ruby Jeans and The Combine is nearby if you get hungry.

I'll call out the elephant in the room and say that sometimes, yes, unfortunately for nice small businesses like these, it's easiest to order something off of Amazon and have it arrive on your doorsteps. However, there's a lot of value in supporting these local shops to offset that. For starters, they're very friendly here and help you out whenever you need anything. Secondly, you can make sure your little ones will like their toys before you pull the trigger. All those combine to also support a cool local toy store that adds to a sense of community. We found some great things for our little ones, and a few things I found to be too pricey for what they were. I think it's a nice little toy store in a family-oriented neighborhood and one we'll keep in our back pocket for gifts for sure.
