After ten consecutive years of mountain trips, we decided this year to head back to the beach and the gulf side of Florida that we used to be familiar. After quite a bit of research and reading numerous reviews, I reached out to Tim and Yvonne (managers of The Cottages at Siesta Key). It was one of the best decisions I ever made, as we hit it off immediately and had a rental agreement completed the very same day. We arrived at our destination at night well after the office closed to find that Tim and Yvonne has left our keys on the door along with a nice note and all pertinent instructions. The room was cute and super clean, which was the number one requirement for us. The pool was well maintained, and the beach access was only a very short walk of a couple hundred yards away. They even provided lounge chairs, an umbrella, and even a long handled shelling scoop for our use. We enjoy eating out each evening during our vacations, and there were a number of excellent choices within walking distance or a short drive from The Cottages. We enjoy bird photography, and an awesome state park was only a 30 minute or so drive away. The famed St. Armands Circle and Longboat Key were a comparable drive. In conclusion, we will certainly return to the Cottages at Siesta Key and now consider Tim and Yvonne to be personal friends!

This hotel does not have curtains, only louvered blinds on the windows and frosted glass on the door so you're getting: ANY outside light, light from your and your neighbors' porch light, and potentially light from cars as they pull in and out of the parking lot. Oh, and let's not forget the bright blue LED read out on the refrigerator, and the AC unit directly over your bed. *So much light pollution in one room.* The other complaint would be the -10AM- check out time. The way too-early check out, after a lousy nights sleep, would really give me pause to stay here again. My friend and I were going to a kayaking trip in the morning and we had to repack everything we had unpacked just a few hours before. We were told if we wanted/needed to have a late check out, we would be charged a *full day*. WTH? To come back, I would have to bring my own window coverings, and painters tape (to cover any LED lights) to consider rebooking this hotel. Although, it's a good location and was a good price during Labor Day Sunday/Monday.

At one point, we were told their system had been hacked and that we should not accept emails from them for a period of time. Then, shortly before our trip, we received what they described as an "app," which appeared incomplete and contained little to no useful information. Taken together, the communication issues raised concerns early on. The day before our cross-country flight, we received a call from Charles, who identified himself as the head sales manager and said he was "the boss" when asked about a supervisor. He informed us that the Pelican House was no longer available due to a reported bedbug issue. Regardless of the reason, the timing left us with virtually no ability to make alternative plans. The replacement options offered were, in our view, not comparable. We specifically chose this property for a quiet, intimate beachfront experience with access to amenities like kayaks, canoes, and bikes. The suggested alternatives were larger, more traditional resort-style properties without the same privacy, beach access, or features we had planned around. While these were described as "nicer," the focus was on things like interior finishes rather than the experience we had intentionally booked. What made this especially difficult is that just the day before, we had conversations with staff where we shared that this trip was for our 20th anniversary during a period of repeated family tragedies. At that time, the tone was empathetic and understanding. However, once the cancellation was communicated, that empathy disappeared. The interaction shifted to a rigid, take-it-or-leave-it approach with no meaningful acknowledgment of the impact. We were given two options: accept a replacement that did not meet our needs or take a refund at the last minute--leaving us with non-refundable flights, a car rental, and no place to stay. There was no effort to provide a comparable solution or to help mitigate the disruption. After the call, I attempted to reach Charles again, but did not receive a return call. My wife later received an automated refund email. When I contacted Susan, the house manager, to confirm what had happened, the response was brief and, in our view, lacked empathy--stating only that they "couldn't risk it" because of bedbugs. From our perspective, this experience was deeply disruptive and disappointing. It left us with significant unexpected costs, no accommodations, and a milestone anniversary trip that had been planned for months effectively undone at the last minute.

Conveniently located on Manasota Key Beach Road it is in a quiet stretch of private homes away from the Public Beach but within 5 miles of multiple Tiki Bars & 2 upscale restaurants. 1960's-70's accommodations (Owl Building) that open to a semi private beachside deck are a blast to the past. They are obviously still recovering from devastating hurricane damage but are clean, comfortable, full of vintage furniture, reading materials and a flat screen Roku TV. Free WiFi is available. Beachside they have lots of shared toys, chairs, Paddleboards and shell/shark tooth hunting scoops. Be sure to bring water shoes, diving masks & snorkels as the hurricane has uncovered lots of large rocks and debris making it more of a beach entry reef dive than a swimming beach. The abundance of fish varieties is astounding! Small children & seniors, due to a steep drop off and rocks, may find the pool more enjoyable which also comes with many toys available. Location, location, location and a love for historic Florida experiences drives the price. Then on the 4th night of our stay we got in late and encountered cockroach in the toilet. When we looked around the bathroom we saw several more. They were small but there we several visible. We didn't sleep well at all but had to stay in the room. When we got u a couple hours later we saw a large cockroach just above the toilet paper holder on the side of the sink vanity. We called Vacasa right then and explained the situation and sent the representative pictures to substantiate our issues. He was helpful and told us the local property manager would be contacting us. We packed our belongings as quickly as possible and reserved a hotel room in Sarasota. Our last full day of vacation was a bust. The local agent could not be reached for several hours. When she did call around 11:30 am she told us she saw no evidence of cockroaches she told us that the picture of the large cockroach in the bathroom didn't look like anywhere in the unit. We told her the location of the other cockroaches and she continued to tell us she could find none at all. She told us the room is rented continuously and they never experienced cockroaches prior to this. She continued to state that she could find none. We felt as if she implied we were lying. She didn't use the word lie or liar but it felt implied. We felt very insulted. We have been visiting Siesta Key the same week for several years and we always stayed at the same place. This time we tried a new place and now we regret that we didn't stay where we had in the past. we had an a legitimate issue and it was handled poorly by the local Vacasa property agent. She is crediting us for the last day but she still insulted us by the implication that we were lying. We won't use Vacasa again. We feel bad for the next guests to experience the cockroaches because it is only a matter of time before someone else sees the cockroaches as well. We stayed in cottage 4.

Most recently we stayed in August for our family vacation and rented all 4 units. What a wonderful time! Located a stones throw away from the semi private beach & within walking distance to anything and everything you need in the village. You absolutely cannot beat the location! Especially with children. Its so easy taking them to and from the beach especially when a bathroom break is needed or something forgotten. The units are all decorated with a beachy vibe, well maintained and clean. The pool, grilling area, outdoor shower and laundry is great,and management is very attentive and accomodating.

My family has stayed at numerous condos in this facility over 7 years. We have watched it slowly…read moredeteriorate, but the location is good and certain units nice so we went again in June 2024. This last stay was abysmal. We arrived late - the front office was notified - and there was no key left for us. The sign on the door did not have the correct after hours number. Some time later, I found paperwork with an after hours number that eventually - through call back - got to an after hours contact who directed me to a back-up condo unit for the night. We had to switch over the next day to our original unit. The operations manager said "he would discuss compensation" with me after the stay, but he never followed-up. I called RVA twice, finally got him back on the phone, and he informed me then that no compensation would be considered. Not a good way to run a business. That said, the pool had an upset while we were there and was unusable. There is also very little beach room left for those accessing the beach, which is across the street, from this location. Last, the people renting units here are getting louder and messier - it's not family friendly anymore. There are lots of other places you can rent on Siesta Key. Avoid this one.

Stayed one night as a last minute decision as I got off of work substantially early. The price was…read moresuper cheap as well, because they were unlikely to rent the unit that night. One night in unit 101 which is an efficiency style unit, 260sq ft, was $252. The rental included self parking with my own dedicated spot, which was perfect because I was driving there. The office sent me a text and an email with check in instructions. The room was clean and well stocked. My only qualm was that the toilet barely flushed. It looked like it was going to overflow every time you flush is and the toilet paper would just linger in there until it decomposed. Yes, there was a plunger in there but I wasn't about to get to work on that toilet. Nope. Instead I planned to just toss the paper in the trash and find another place to go #2 if I had to. The fridge kept my drinks and snacks cool. I did not use the cooking stuff. I wanted to use the coffee maker but there were no filters (I brought my own coffee grounds). They had some pre packaged stuff, but I opted not to use it. There were some snacks with the coffee creamers etc but the date on the peanuts was May 2024 so I didn't bother looking at anything else. The towels were nice and soft. The water pressure was insane. The kitchen sink pretty much assaulted me when I turned it on. The shower and bathroom sink were just as powerful. Water temp was good. The room itself was very cool, had a NOISY but powerful AC. It clunked every time it reached temp and turned off. Wear ear plugs. Beach access was a short walk away, as well as a wonderful breakfast spot (toasted mango), awesome ice cream place (Jake's) and delicious deli (Anna's). I walked everywhere. There are nearby fancy restaurants and local bars and the marina isn't far at all. I walked there too. I'd say this place overall was great value and very safe. I appreciated the community pool and beach access. I had my own chairs and umbrella, so I did not rent. I would stay here again. This is a quieter side of the island compared to the village.
