Beach Bunny - Thanksgiving 2013 - 1 week stay, family of 4, from Austin, TX. We've stayed here before, and knew essentially what to expect: CLOSEST house to the water! So, it's not the fanciest of accommodations: it's a no-frills beach house in Surfside (which is not a "luxury" area). If you know Surfside, then you know the area. If you are expecting luxury, pick a different beach. Beach Bunny: yeehaw, some nice improvements since our last stay! The kitchen is SO much nicer after renovations - it's usable! Great fridge, oven, & microwave. Coffee pot: annoying break in the pour spout made for dribbled messes. Other than that, kitchen is totally in working order, and well-equipped with the essentials. They have added a kitchen table, which is nice BC we brought our kids this trip (previously, there was only a bar). Living room: yea to the nice futon-couches! If you've seen pics of wicker furniture, be happy that they've been replaced! Nice coffee & end tables. TV in good working order with Satellite. Bedrooms: where you sleep & keep your clothes. Absolutely nothing fancy, but the beds are comfortable & the dressers/wardrobes were plenty for our week's stay. I call it a bonus that there's a TV with Satellite in the master bedroom. Bathroom: all in working order (although a big "#2" might need some help! LOL! Plunger provided, but wasn't needed). Nice amount of space for toiletries. Cleanliness: I, saw 1 roach (not a"billion," as I read). Have no complaints. I didn't inspect deeply: this is Surfside! I washed what I thought should be washed, trusted what I thought could be trusted. Didn't take notice to any cobwebs, or notice anything gross (per other reviews). Porch/deck: AWESOME! I really miss the porch swing! Be sure to bring chairs: the built-in bench faces the house, not the water. Nice picnic table! Be aware of the entry rug: it WILL be wet (seaspray), but nice to wipe off feet! (Tip: bring a wash-tub & keep a towel handy to lessen the sand coming into the house!) The portion that wraps around was a welcome respite from the biting cold wind! Our bag of linens was there as promised: I chuckle that it's all just left together in the bag (sheets, pillow cases, towels, etc), but no matter! Our challenge: it was frigid the first 2 days of our stay. I had verified there was heat (via window units), however, none of them worked (to provide heat). Thankfully, there were 2 space heaters, but needed a 3rd for each of the living areas. Since we arrived late, we were given extra blankets (to make it thru the 1st night), and a nice custodian arrived the next day with another space heater. (also used the oven to heat up the place "ghetto-style" for 1st night - thanks for the tip! Odd to me, but functional!) Water: do NOT drink, threatened illness/death! Ok, it's brown & foul-smelling; wash clothes at your own risk (it's a nice thought to provide washer & dryer, and they are nice units!). The water: not the fault of the Beach Bunny, & we were well aware of this before we arrived (but signing the part about "possible death" for drinking the water is daunting)! Kinda funny: my biggest disappointment = no one informed us we couldn't park on the beach! Last time here, we parked right next to the steps leading up to the house. Apparently, the beach was washed away - 50% gone from our last stay, and no driving on the beach this time. That means: you park "far away" and must hoof-it over the boardwalk to the house...makes for an exhausting unloading & loading! But, this is Mother Nature, not Beach Bunny/Beach House Associates. Kinda cool to have to trek over the boardwalk to your house, vs. trekking over the boardwalk to get to the beach! Though some may not find this desirable (but as a mom, I did!): this house is"kid-central!" The location is PERFECT for kids to gather, as the main boardwalk leads from a houses farther back, so there are quite a few passers-by next to the house. I'm all about welcoming kids to play, so the Beach Bunny became "the place" for gathering (this was all my encouragement, BTW!). If privacy is important: just don't invite anyone up! (last stay here was our anniversary, so no kids, & we had no problems!). What else? This is by far the BEST beach house on Surfside to be in! From the proximity of the beach, to the cozy but simpleton accommodations, if you want to be close to the water: this place rocks! RUN AWAY FROM THESE PEOPLE!!!!! They don't care about anything but the money they take in and their houses are total crap! We rented Beach Bunny in July and here's what happened. Very disappointed in the house because it was nothing like what is posted on the website. First of all, our first afternoon in Beach Bunny was spent cleaning the house. When we first arrived, there was sand and dust everywhere. The counters were filthy and the front of the microwave looked as if it was cleaned with a dirty wet rag. When you walk in the door, the bedroom on the left side of the house was so dirty that the walls had dust balls all over them- there is no way this house was cleaned before we got there. If you lay on that bed and look up at the ceiling it was covered in cobwebs and dust- even the wall where the air conditioner is had tape stuck on the wall from the previous renters that were there. It was tape from a new item that was bought and they took it out of the package and just stuck the tape on the wall and left it there for house keeping- who didn't bother to even notice it was there. We did not clean that tape off the wall or dust the ceiling either- we were there to rest and enjoy ourselves. The toilet knob is broken and you have to stand there in the bathroom and wait for the water to fill up and then flip up the handle up or the water just runs. Also we had the disgusting job of cleaning boogers off the wall that were flung there when someone was sitting on the toilet! Something else your cleaning people forgot. Believe me they boogers were not hard to miss! Complained to Beach house Assoc. about it and they just told us to write a letter when we got home- BS! The TV cable wire had to be tightened in order for the tv to work. The posting on the web site included things not even in this house. There is no dishwasher and I believe that advertising that it has one is wrong. No advertisement that you cant drink the water- you are only told about it when you pick up your "welcome packet" and you get a verbal warning- that should be the first thing listed! We washed a load of clothes and the whites are now rust colored- they are ruined. People should be told that this particular house has water that is not even good enough to bathe in and it's not all of Surfside that has water like this- it's this particular house. Also, if someone that owns the place took a walk through and took some kind of interest in the place they would see that the coffee pot is unusable- there is a broken part in the pot and the bottom where the pot sits is completely rusted out- the burner is wasted! I understand a house on the beach having water bugs but this house is roach infested to where we wouldn't bring any of our items into our home when we got home in fear of bringing roaches in our belongings. I would think that when a beach house is rented out for approximately 3 full months of the year @ $5000 a month there would be some care put into the place. The couch along the back of the door is completely broken! The left side of it is stacked on boards and the right side is completely detached from the frame. The floors are starting to fall through, if your brave enough to stand in the bathroom over the sink you can feel where your feet are touching a board that's about to fall through, same as when you walk in the front door. When we left this place, we left it way cleaner than when we arrived. When we arrived, the place was filthy. We had to clean it prior to even being able to unpack our things. The photos posted are old and you need to remove the listing that there is a dishwasher, fix your broken couch, exterminate all the roaches and fix the floors and rusted water problems. I informed Beach House Assoc. about this and they removed the dishwasher listing but still have no warning about the water. We had to drive 45 minutes into Galveston several times to buy over 20 gallons of water just so we had something to brush our teeth! The water smells like rotten eggs and is brown from rust. 20 gallons still wasn't enough water!!! We will not be recommending this place to any of our friends that have small families and are looking for a small place to rent. You should not be charging near the price you are to rent this place. We rent houses in Galveston every summer and this is by far the worst one we ever stayed at. read more

This review is for our rental from 10/18/2012 to 10/25/2012 of Splendido beach house at 1315 Surf Drive Surfside Beach, TX 77541, managed by Beach House Associates. The cons of our rental were the following: - the microwave did not work - the coffee pot did not work - table and chairs were broken - living room window was broken and window glass strewn over living room floor - the house had not been cleaned upon arrival - there were no clean linens, as promised, upon arrival - window blinds were broken - holes in the drywall - holes in the floor under the linoleum in the bathrooms - improperly sized shower curtain, such that water floods over bathroom floor - bar-b-q pit rusted out and propped up with bricks, making it unusable for grilling - overall not very well maintained house or grounds This rental house was chosen for our wedding/ honeymoon, based on the pictures on the Beach House Associates website. It was perfect until we walked up the stairs and inside the house and encountered all the problems listed above. Our guests arrived shortly after we checked in and my soon-to-be-wife/ now wife and I had to scramble to clean as we moved supplies in and situate the house to be suitable for everyone's comfort. Having to deal with these challenging problems caused unnecessary stress on both of us. We received no assistance from the management company, Beach House Associates, and they provided no solutions to the problems after being notified multiple times. There were positive aspects to our stay, few of which had to do with the beach house itself. The positives of this beach rental are instead related to it's location to the beach and Surfside Jetty Park. The pros are: - great location to the beach - great decks and view - close to Jetty Park for fishing I hope the honesty of this review will help prevent someone else from choosing to rent with Beach House Associates. read more

The beach house we rented at Surfside, TX through Beach House Associates was filthy and poorly maintained. The refrigerator was rusted and the carpet was heavily stained. We saw bugs on two of the beds and the odor to the place was nauseous. The management tried to place us into another unit but it was equally bad. They cheerfully refunded our money. The beaches at Surfside are not maintained. The garbage from the previous week had still not been collected and there was trash blowing on the beach. The seaweed which is prolific this time of year was piled in some places up to 2 feet high and there was very virtually no sand to play in from the seaweed pile to the water line. read more

Week of July 18, 2014 Beach Bunny House, I am very pleased with this location. It is definately not luxury but for a beach lover, you cannot get any closer than this! During our week stay this particular part of the beach was closed or drive at your own risk, so in for days we saw two cars, was almost like a private beach. We saw the regulars at the beach everyday, it was very quiet and riffraff! As for the house, the bedrooms had plenty of clothing storage, nothing fancy, the bed in the master room was very comfortable, with a memory foam pad. The second br bed did not have the extra padding, I found it very uncomfortable. Both br had their own tv's with cable and AC. Bring your own comfy pillows and blankets, though they are some provided. The bathroom had a great shower, good water pressure, looked like a new toilet, and a vanity with underneath storage, I suggest you bring bleach and you own cleaner, I'm not a huge clean freak, just concerned regarding the previous users, and I never trust the house keeping. They provide tp but we brought extra which we needed. When we arrived we could tell either they don't hv one or they did minimal cleaning. Just bring cleaner and ant or bug spray, we had ants, which we had to go and buy. The kitchen: there's a good stove above microwave, with an additional one as well, both were clean. The refrid was clean as well, not the exterior though, there is a broom as well, for the MANY times to sweep sand, it was pretty crappy but worked. Bring all hand towels none are provided and papertowels, there are pots and pans, just bring large bowls, we used our own plastic wear and paper plates, though there is that stuff provided, no dishwasher!! Coffee pot is new, and there is a cutting board. The living room has a flat screen with cable, NO WIFI! There are two foutons that's are very comfortable. A coffee table and two end tables. There is also a kitchen table with two chairs, and two bar stools. The outside has a nice big picnic table and the seating is toward the house not the beach so bring chairs. There's a line with a few clothes pins to hang your sandy wet items. It has a BBQ pit with an additional charcoal pit. There is a washer and dryer, but with some of the other comments I did not use it due to the color and the un safeness of it's usage! Bring A LOT of bottled water, you cannot drink or cook with it!! We ended up needing more! I do not like walking on floors without shoes so bring slippers or flip flops! This house is located directly in the sand so pleas love sand because it's always around. The do have a water faucet located outside thx house that reaches all the way to the deck, makes for easy rinsing! There are shades on every window, but if you like to sleep in the dark bring something to cover the shades bc with bright yellow windows and bright sunlight it gets bright really quick!! Everything was ok, some of those last reviews may have been before it has been remodeled, which has been 9-12 months ago. I think it's awesome here and I've been to some super fancy beach houses but I love this one the best! Great location and super close to the beach!! Hope this helped! :) read more

We rented the Beach Bunny beach house from Beach House Associates from August 6-10, 2012. The pictures of the house looked fresh and clean. The house - NOT. There were holes in the doors, broken light switches and outlets, the paint was peeling on the house. The "room" that housed the washer and dryer was dirty and gross. All of this I could look past - you sit right on the beach. But, we spent all day in Galveston on Wednesday, came back that evening and found cockroaches taking over the kitchen and some babies in the bathroom. Gross! As we were leaving in a couple of days, my husband bought some spray and we ate off of paper plates the next day. Upon checkout Friday morning, we let them know of ALL of the issues, and as of Monday morning, I have not even received a phone call acknowledging them. I am so disappointed. We will not be renting from them again. read more

Unprofessional and dishonest. I contacted them in December about renting a beach house for the end of January. I was given a price of $550 for the week. For some reason, they couldn't take the deposit until the first of January - it was weird, but I figured they'd done their taxes early or something. When it came time to give them the deposit, I never could get them to return my calls and finally one week before my rental should have started they called to say they finally figured out their prices for 2015! As if I'd been waiting for a price - I was stunned! It was $150 more and when I asked if she would honor the original price, she had the gall to claim she never gave me a price. I wasn't mistaken; I wrote it down after the call and also I also remember saying to her that the price she gave me was more than what I remembered from the website. And I certainly wouldn't have been sitting around waiting to put my deposit down if I'd had not price. read more

Beach-front GHETTO! Avoid at all costs!! We were at "The Breakers" in Surfside, TX with very similar and disgusting accommodations! We wore our flip flops the entire weekend because of the filth on the floors, but that probably saved us a trip to the ER since someone could have gashed their feet on the MANY broken ceramic tiles all over the kitchen area! We had to open doors and windows after pre-heating the oven because it got so smokey inside, and that only added to the putrid odor of the house! Beyond all of this and the exposed outlets and half-ass electrical installations, was the filth that was EVERYWHERE! Dead cockroaches (live cockroaches AND ants!), dirty toilets, carpet, tile, couches, chairs, counters... we didn't feel like sitting ANYWHERE, let alone sleeping! This was our 3rd consecutive year as a group of friends in what promises to be an annual event for many years to come, but I can guarantee we will NEVER use this management company again! They need to know that a front-row beach house does NOT make up for trailer park accommodations!! read more
