When reviewing our medigap supplemental insurance plan, we found we could save over $3000/year for 2 of us for the exact same coverage. We only had 2 days to submit the application in order to have the policy take effect on day 1 of the following month. It seemed an insurmountable task, given we were in an open enrollment period, the busiest time of year for Sylvia and for the insurance companies. Despite the hurdles, Sylvia got the job done. It seems like everyone else who reviewed her got great service and it was why I decided to go here. She was also very friendly when I met her so I didn't expect things to go this way. I needed dental insurance for multiple fillings. I know I stated why I needed the insurance. I met Sylvia twice and even contacted the dentists office multiple times per her request to make sure I had a working insurance for them. All of this ended up in an insurance that had a waiting period and defeated my entire purpose of getting dental insurance. I know she'll probably blame me. But when a customer comes in with a specific goal and gets sold something that works against said goal. Especially with something as complicated as insurance. I'm not going to be happy about it. Sylvia is friendly. And, in the last 3 weeks, I've experienced the following: 1. When I needed to re-schedule our 1st appt., I left a message, & then waited more than 4 days to receive a reply. 2. I re-scheduled the in-person appt. Four days later, I received an email confirming that my original appt. had been canceled, but incorrectly stating that I needed to schedule a Zoom meeting (I had ALREADY re-scheduled the in-person appt.). 3. At the in-person meeting, Sylvia wasn't able to log-in to her computer. Her assistant, Kimberly, had to help her. 4. Medicare Health Insurance has many interconnections with the Social Security Administration (ssa.gov). Sylvia forgot their web address. I had to remind her that it was "ssa.gov". 5. Because I was without Medicare for many years, I'm subject to penalties. I later learned from Medicare that those penalties can possibly be abated. Sylvia didn't tell me this. 6. Prior to the meeting, I spoke with assistant, Michelle, & asked if I may send her an email with attachments to be printed for the meeting, & if she'd further call me after the email receipt & printing. She promptly printed the attachments, & gave me a confirming call. At the meeting, Sylvia didn't know what the printed documents were for, & began to blame Michelle. Sylvia, whose bio states she has a graduate certificate in Human Resource Management, seemed to forget that her blaming reflects on the person who hired & trained Michelle: presumably Sylvia. 7. At the meeting, Sylvia promised to provide me a VA resource. Two weeks later, I've heard nothing. There were more actions/inactions that pushed me away. But just chronicling these has been so tiring!! read more

I decided I'd rather pay someone to help me figure all of this out and walked in to their office on Monday. I was pleasantly surprised to find that they take no fee for helping people get signed up through covered CA. When I found Sylvia Oliverez and Be Well Insurance listed as a recommended broker on the Covered California site, I gave her a call. Sylvia is an absolute insurance expert plus she's a genuine people person. She spent about an hour with me on the phone plus I also made an appointment with her and she explained it all again in person. She helped me understand all my options and especially the deadlines. (I ended up choosing my COBRA option vs switching.) After talking to her, I was able to make my decision with much more confidence. Silvia didn't charge a dime for all her time and she is such a great person to talk to. You can tell she advocates for her clients 100% and truly cares about helping them make the right decision. I gave up when I could not complete the account setup and the Covered CA rep could not help and suggested using an agent. With two days left on my Cobra coverage I was in a panic.
