There are not enough words to express how grateful I am to Erika! From the first appointment to my last fitting, she was professional, helpful, caring, and an absolute pleasure to work with. She asked me at our first appointment What kind of dress I thought I wanted. She gave her opinion that a different style may suit me better and With help from my mother, they pulled a Kitty Chen gown. I put it on and it was love at first sight. I always heard of horror stories of trying on 1 million dresses and never finding the right one. This was not the case for me. The one I chose was the third dress I tried on. The whole process was not stressful and very much enjoyable. The veil was very important to me and my mother. We wanted to make sure that it wasn't too busy that it took away from the beauty of the dress but also that was beautiful and off on its own. She found the perfect one! My experience at Be Unique Boutique was absolutely amazing. I needed to find a wedding dress while COVID-19 restrictions were still in place. Erika, the owner, scheduled a private appointment for me, my maid of honor, my mom, and my mother in law. She took her time showing me over 6 dresses and with each dress, she took into account the feedback and opinions. She was certain that the last dress would be the one and she was right! We purchased my dress and veil on the spot. It was a lovely curated private experience that you won't get a large "wedding factory" store. Erika was always available via phone or email to answer any questions or provide updates in the months leading up to the dress's arrival. Once my dress arrived, she called me immediately to schedule my first fitting. I decided to get my fittings done at Be Unique Boutique because of the intimacy of the space and the 1:1 service. My fittings were as private as my dress appointment. I had a total of 4 fittings and everything came out beautifully. The seamstress, Florence, went above and beyond to make sure everything came out perfectly. She even added a second tier to my cathedral veil so that I could cover my face during the ceremony. On my last fitting, Florence educated me and my mother on how to manage my long train throughout the day and showed us how to fold it so that it can sit on my arm during travel. She showed us how to do my bustle and took her time going over it more than once so that we were clear on what had to be done. Erika even steamed the silk portion of my dress before we took it home. I am so happy that I found Be Unique Boutique a few months ago. It was the first and only Bridal Salon I went to. When you strike gold in a place, you do not go looking for silver. This was the very first wedding dress salon I went to. Erika, the owner, clearly takes good care of her dresses. All the dresses were lovely and Erika encouraged me to try on styles that I had not been considering. She definitely knows what looks good on a certain body shape/size. Place is great! Erika was so nice I didn't have an appointment she told it would be a while which I knew Bc I was in the wrong. I waited it didn't take long for her to help me and my mother. I tried on a million dresses at a million different places. I am SO happy I got my dress at Be Unique Boutique. Don't forget that after you buy your dress, you'll be going to a ton of alterations appointments. Do you want to go to RK Bridal or Kleinfelds or another huge warehouse where they have 500 dresses stored in the back and they're extremely disorganized? I was so happy to go here where I was never stressed about them forgetting what needed to be done with my dress or losing it. Erika is so organized. And the seamstress, Florence, is the best. I went into the boutique to try to get information and was totally ignored. The lady who was working there saw me and just didn't say word. I waited for a least five minutes since I saw she with someone but she didn't even say "I'll be right with you". I could not be happier with my experience with Erica and both seamstresses. Erica is beyond patient, sweet and very knowledgable of her products. On my second fitting there was a bride doing her fitting that after the seamstress was done continued to stand there with her entourage(that she was arguing with) for literally 20mins talking about her dress and veil. Erica was extremely apologetic to me and couldn't be nicer to the other bride. I truly appreciate that in a store owner and sales person. She accommodated my large entourage for the first time I came in. I described what I liked and my price and she brought me three dresses which, all matched what I asked for. Erika and Florence were amazing. Mom found them after they moved as she had always wanted a reason to use them. When I got engaged, we went hunting. Erika's suggestions were always spot-on. She was so sweet NOT to laugh in my face when I told her how much I was willing to spend. We found something gorgeous and totally affordable anyway. I got the perfect dress on the third try and snapped it up right then and there. We returned a total of four times - pinning, fitting, bustle and length, final - and each time was easier than the last. Florence knows her dresses very well - the extra stash of safety pins I hope I won't need! Erika is an expert - I watched her handle several shaky brides with genius answers and aplomb. Very nice bridal gowns kept in the large plastic garment bags on the racks. However we weren't allowed to browse ourselves so felt that was a little disappointing. I did get try on quite a few gowns similar to pictures I had online and they were gorgeous and the experience was special because you were the only appointment in the boutique. The only downside is I felt a lot of pressure from the manager/owner and this was my first salon appointment and I had many more ! The manager/owner started to get pushy and impatient and I felt their attitude change immediately when I said I wasn't sure. Ultimately I ended up buying my gown in NYC. read more

Brides beware. My dress broke on my wedding day. The plastic zipper teeth had worn and lost connection when my dress was zipped. I had to be sewn into my dress on my wedding day... The dress had an "invisible zipper" which I wasn't aware of. Apparently after only 4 fittings..the zipper had enough. When I told the owner, she told me it was maybe bc the dress was too tight. This couldn't be farther from the truth. When my step mother sewed me in, she actually took in the dress! It never fit better. I had asked it to be taken in again before the wedding bc I felt it was loose and was told no bc it would put stress on the zipper. Did they know the zipper was weak and this could happen?!?? Just a note, I am a size 0 and 100lbs. Further, the owner appears to be nice and friendly but if you don't agree with her she quickly becomes rude and makes you feel as if you don't know what you're talking about. Also, when putting on my dress on my wedding day - we found a hemming pin still in it! Obviously, something was unfinished. This is not the bridal experience anyone wants. read more

I couldn't imagine a better experience than the one I had this year with Erika & Florence! At my first appointment Erika selected dresses that fit my budget, body type & style and I chose the 5th one I tried on! She also styled it w/ a matching veil and a beautiful, sparkly unique belt. The fitting schedule was seamless and I always felt I was in good hands. The dresses in her store look like a million bucks compared to other ones I had seen & the quality is outstanding. Florence made my dress fit like a glove and the bustle was very easy to attach. She even hides safety pins in the dress in case of emergency! Unfortunately, not a good experience. I came into this boutique knowing what style I wanted and yet Erika tried to tell me differently and what would look good on me. She also posed the question as to why I would want to wear a style that is so popular and everyone is wearing. I think it would have been better for her to tell me there are no dresses in her shop that fit my needs and call it a day. There is a time and a place to be direct and this was not one of them. I left feeling discouraged and confused. This was my 7th bridal shop visit and going back to square 1 was not good. I, like most brides, had the exact mental and physical picture of the dream wedding dress I wanted. I got in touch with Erica at Be Unique when I found out that Be Unique featured the collections of designer Papilio. Upon my arrival, the sample I had been swooning over was already set aside in a lovely dressing area for me. I couldn't wait to try it on and see myself in it. Then, it was just ok, I couldn't believe I didn't love it and I was one of "those brides" that didn't love her dream dress. Before I could even say anything Erica, reading my face and body language was right behind me with 3 other dress she thought would be better for me, the second being The One! I loved/love my dress SO much!! Erica kept in contact with me over the next few months as my dress was in production and going through delivery and customs. I highly recommend Be Unique Boutique for their excellent service and truly original selection of high quality, detailed wedding gowns. I came to BU after trying on gowns in several Manhattan and Westchester bridal boutiques and vintage shops; I had liked some of the dresses, but nothing had quite given me that right feeling yet. The boutique is a small treasure box of exquisitely made dresses, some from European designers exclusive to this shop in the US. If you're really looking for something well made, different, and worth the price, don't go to Kleinfeld's, go to Be Unique. The prices are in the mid to high range, but when compared to dresses of the same price at a chain bridal store, the quality of fabric and construction are much better (and lighter and breathable...no polyester gowns here!!) First try-on: The shop's owner Erika attends to each appointment, so the feeling is very personal here. She helps you get into gowns, but without being intrusive or barging in on you when you're in your underwear. After a few simpler styles, I tried on "Flirt" by the Russian brand Papilio (a BU exclusive)....and had my moment. No tears, but it felt like the golden retriever puppies from the Estee Lauder commercial with the bride were running around me. Perfect. The gown was it. But I decided to go check out a chain store...just to see what they were offering. No comparison. None. Unless I wanted to wear a 50-pound ball of tulle with a cheap polyester lining instead of a beautiful tiered confection of champagne colored silk organza with gold lace. Ordering: I went back to the store a second time to try the dress again, and decided (officially) that it was the one--the puppies were back when I tried it on. A deposit of half was put down, and then payments thereafter. Easy and clear, with a delivery date set for a few months later. Did have a slight feeling of needing to order urgently, but mostly because the dress was going to be discontinued and had limited availability. The dress came in much earlier than expected and was held in the shop for me for several months. Tailoring was included with the price of the dress. Fitting: Since the dress was kept in the shop for me, it was convenient to make an appointment from time to time to try the dress on with new accessories. My final fitting was very easy (I didn't have to have much beyond the bustle done). Erika and her tailor are good at taking into account what the client wants, but will carefully push what they think is right (based on their own expertise and eye for these things). For someone who might want to be agreed with at all turns, it might not work, but it was good for me; I'd rather have opinions voiced than regrets later. We tried multiple bustle styles to see what looked right, and settled on a simple option that minimally affected the look of the dress. While I didn't have much complicated tailoring done, I did see other women at final fittings whose dresses fit very well; one woman with a slight case of the Bridezillas who was at a second fitting was dealt with very calmly and politely. Final try-on/Delivery: The final try-on was easy; just being shown how to fasten the bustle. After that, the dress was hand steamed by Erika and picked up from the shop a few days before the wedding. It was placed in a breathable garment bag. Communication/Appointments: Appointments are definitely recommended, since the shop is so small. Try to make them as far in advance as possible if you can, and later in the day if you are just doing something small (like trying on your dress with accessories). No time limit on appointments (as far as I could tell), unlike in most of the Manhattan boutiques. Shoes and hoops available to try on with gowns. Cabinet of jewelry/hair combs, veils also available in store. They also carry bridesmaids, mother-of-the-bride and flower girl dresses (adorable). Service: Clear, prompt response to email. Easy billing with no surprises. A great atmosphere in the shop, very clean and friendly. Clients generally chatting with each other like old friends. Erika is very kind and runs a terrific shop--I wish her much success!! The dress was beautiful on the wedding day, I felt absolutely right in it, and received so many compliments on it. I needed a gown for a black tie awards show and Be Unique Boutique was the first shop I stopped in. I tried on a beautiful black dress but it was several sizes too big and needed alterations. With huge clips holding it back, I got an idea of what that dress would look like if it was the correct size and immediately fell in love with it/. Still, I decided to look around for something closer to my size, but honestly everything I tried on paled in comparison to that black dress. With only two weeks to go before the event, I went back to Be Unique Boutique for that dress. Erika assured me that she could have the dress ready for the event. I had two fittings with her wonderful seamstress and in the end the dress fit like it was made specifically for me! And it was even more beautiful than I imagined it would be! The shop is beautiful with calming and soothing colors on the walls and beautiful gowns surround you when you walk in. Erika is great, her seamstress superbly talented, and the whole experience was wonderful. There are only a few times in your life when you get to dress so beautifully and elegantly and it should be in a shop that has the expertise and knowledge to make that happen.
