Review Highlights - BC SPCA Vancouver

(VOKRA and Cat Therapy & Rescue seem a little intense -- I understand wanting to make sure that a cat goes to a good home, but good grief!

The 50-minute timeslot was plenty of time to play with and pet different cats while enjoying bubble tea. Some of the cats were active and playful during my 8:10-9:00 pm time and some just wanted to chill out, but they all seemed relaxed and happy about having people around. There were lots of toys available to use and the room that the cats are in is spacious with lots of structures for the cats to climb in/on, and also a few chairs for people. They clean often. The staff is mostly young adults. They are all very friendly and happy to talk about the cats. The bubble tea here is reliably pretty good. I live nearby so I sometimes stop in for bubble tea. They have a decent selection with plenty of non-caffeinated options for evening visits.

Made a reservation a day before to ensure I got to see the kitties. Cats were cute, seemed well taken care of. There is a mix of veteran cats and new cats. Went around lunch time, some were tired and rather not play, some were eager to play. Interesting experience: orientation, talking to staff, playing with kitties all was really fun and new. May consider coming back again, but will have to plan stuff to do around the area.

We clarified with the lady at the desk that it was for adoption and she said yes. We paid our $16 each and went in. First issue is you are not allowed to pick up or hold any of the cats. I can see why they might have to say that to certain people, but it should be on a case by case basis. Older or bigger people don't really want to sit on the floor and wait for the cats to approach them, especially if it's crowded and the cats are being occupied by too many others. Second thing is the man inside told us all but one of the cats were "already spoken for" and not available for adoption, which seemed silly. Of the one cat they had no information regarding if they were good with other animals or kids. Also, they were mostly kittens, which isn't ideal for everyone looking to adopt. Basically, if you just want to sit on the floor drinking tea and petting cats it's a cute place. If you're seriously looking to adopt a cat you should probably go elsewhere.

What an amazing place! Made for a perfect valentines date…read more The interior design is really well done - the cats have lots of room to roam and relax, with lots of toys, quiet spaces, sunlight, and giant windows with good views of birds outside. There are good spaces for cats to sleep and move away if they don't want attention. The staff came in and even showed everyone some ways to play with the cats that they enjoy (hiding the cat toys under the rug and wiggling it around). They were all very nice. They also have shoe covers they provide to keep the room nice and clean! I was shocked at how cheap both the food/drinks/snacks at the cafe were too! They were absolutely delicious, I had the sesame hot chocolate for the hot chocolate festival. Highly recommend stopping by! I will definitely be coming by again.

After a thorough search and conversations with various breeders, I stumbled upon SlowBlink. Mia, the owner, stood out with her extensive knowledge of cat health and nutrition. She was incredibly kind and patient, taking the time to address my concerns about purchasing a kitten without breeding rights. She offered me several options, and we found one that suited me perfectly. As a new cat owner, I valued Mia's ability to accurately assess the kitten's condition based on my brief description. SlowBlink's expertise and the inclusion of first-month insurance provided me with a strong support system in the initial stages of bringing home my kitten. Thanks to their guidance, I was able to confidently reserve a beautiful kitten. I wholeheartedly recommend SlowBlink to anyone searching for a trustworthy and caring place to find their new feline companion. --T and D's mum.

We finally visited S.A.I.N.T.S. this weekend. Well overdue - for years! This animal haven for senior and special needs animals was just heart-warming and full of love. Founder, Carol Hine is a nurse during the day and a "saint" by night. She started this sanctuary in 2004 and it's grown into a beautiful home and 3-acre property to these wonderful animals. Some of the animals have ended up at S.A.I.N.T.S. as a result of animal cruelty cases, abandonment, extended stays at animal shelters, owners moving, owners not being able to afford looking after their sick or disabled animals any longer. Weekly tours happen at the facility on Saturdays and Sundays at 11:00am. Ours was led by long-time volunteer, Dawne. She did a great job providing background info and a thorough explanation of what S.A.I.N.T.S. is all about, how they care for the animals and the stories behind some of their furry residents. They currently have 130+ animals under their care including dogs, cats, horses, llamas, sheep, pigs... S.A.I.N.T.S. is always looking for volunteers, sponsorship (you can even choose which animal), and donations (monetary and non). There's a "wish list" on their site as to the items they're always in need of and you can easily donate and sponsor via their site too. S.A.I.N.T.S. has done an amazing job of turning a bad or unwanted experience into a happy sanctuary of love. Thank you for saving and caring for the animals!

The animals are so sweet and they are all very happy and friendly, I love those elderly dogs they are the most adorable dogs a group was a feeding and they were so cute all on their own pillow with their food and for the dogs that need help a helper was hand feeding one they are all very loved and it shows in their happy faces, and the farm animals are just as wonderful they are all gentle and friendly and everyone gets along, these beautiful animals are so special they are friendly and have excellent manners i really don't know their previous owners can not want them and unless it's an extreme circumstance such death or sickness of the owner how someone could abandon them and some in such cowardly ways i read the adorable pig we saw was dumped off in a mountain, that poor pig must have been terrified, for the animals here I think every single one of them is living the happiest days of their lives here they are treated like the treasures they are, such caring people who save them and love them. I've never met Carol but she's a very special lady to open up her home and create this sanctuary for elderly and unwanted animals she is a saint. It's so worth it to go on the tour even if your not an animal lover you will be by the end of the tour, I think they do tours on the weekends you may want to check their website but I can see donations are well appreciated it all goes for the animals I wished I had more cash on me to donate but will next time. If you have children they will love it people of all ages can enjoy a visit here. The Llama Carl will make you laugh he's so cute I love his personality.
