Fraud and extortion ,Do not hire this electrician. Zero stars
Bob Carlson from BC electric and I had an agreement to wire a small 900 sq ft house in Bremen
He said that if I buy the materials and help with the electric work the cost will be lower than the estimate but somehow it turned out to be much higher and old wires were left in place to make the job as easy as possible. He never even showed up on the job, just sent his electricians for 4 half days total. I Never witnessed such extortion and fraud with any of the many contractors I worked with in the past.
The whole house has only 20 outlets, the old wiring for the water heater and well pump was not replaced as expected and the main power line was left hanging on the side of the house without clips. The well water pump seized due to an old fuse box that was supposed to be rewired costing me $1200
In addition to all the fixtures I also supplied all of the pricey material usually supplied by the electrician such as: indoor outlets, switches, indoor gfi outlets, outdoor outlets,3 way switches, dimmers, plastic covers, can lights, smoke detectors, bath fan.
I also wired myself the range, dishwasher, refrigerator, hood, washer and dryer, closet, installed track heads, drilled ceiling light holes, floor plug and installed all cover plates, much more than I was supposed to do
The range and dryer are propane and didn't require any 240 wiring and also, the heat pump was installed and wired by a different contractor.
Mr Carlson sent an invoice for 2100ft of wire, I know for a fact that this small house doesn't have more than 1200ft of wire and he also charged an astronomical rate per foot, more than double of what I would pay if I purchased at home depot.
$ 2340 of wire alone on a small ranch house is outrageous. He conveniently blamed "Covid"for the high cost when I have pictures of a 1000ft roll of wire with the price from the time of the invoice last summer.
He's also triple billing the actual hours spent on the job.
I was there witnessing the workers leaving at 2pm most of the days they came and getting an invoice for 8 to 9 hours including overtime at $135/h !
We never discussed any travel time .Furthermore, on March 9th when I asked Tyler, the electrician working for him, he confirmed that on the day I was`t there the previous week he came by himself for " a couple of hours" ,Bob Carlson fully knowing the homeowner wasn't around charged for full day for 2 guys.
My neighbor always notifies me if anybody is at the house.
His worker, when asked, not knowing what his boss was billing us for, also confirmed that he indeed used roughly 1000ft of wire on this house !
My wife witnessed and recorded the whole conversation over a speaker phone.
This contractor has several complaints at the BBB and other online platforms with exactly the same scam.
He even left himself a 5 star review on google 3 years ago " great people, very professional" and went as far as responding to it !!! Then, on his profile I noticed bad reviews he left for Mc Donald, Dunkin and Wendy`s for "having to wait almost 10 minutes for a sandwich" ! Who leaves reviews at fast food places? and especially In a time when the whole food industry is struggling to find help?
That shows what kind of person Bob JR or Bob Senior is ( whoever wrote that!)Mr Carlson was obviously unaware that I have a lot of experience with construction and renovations and I have done several homes in Rhode Island.
Because of me buying all the materials and facilitating quite a bit they`re job, he took the liberty to create fake hours , he couldn't come up with any other material cost besides the wire which he had already doubled.
When I tried to reach out to Mr Carlson to discuss the invoices ,he simply did not reply. This scam is used to eventually scare homeowners with late fees and court claims.
I have proof of all communications and invoices. Mr Carlson never provided me with a contract of our agreement which is required by Maine state law.
I`m prepared to take this matter to the Maine contractor licensing board and in court. read more
