While staying in Baker City, Oregon for the night, it was common sense to have breakfast at a local…read morediner called the Oregon Trail. It sounded like something a tourist should do when you're staying in a little town like Baker. The diner is part of the motel next door which is also called the Oregon Trail. Both venues are kinda dated. I'm sure in it's prime it was fabulous! But eating at this venue was pretty cool. It was like stepping into an old school time capsule. We sat ourselves at a booth on the very left of the diner. It was probably one of the only booths where the seating wasn't all messed up. We were instantly greeted and given menus. I did creep on their online menu this morning but it was good to see what I might miss. I got the country breakfast. It had two eggs, 5 slices of bacon and I opted for fresh fruit instead of the hashbrowns. The eggs were cooked perfectly, nice and yolky in the middle. The fruit was super fresh! It was still on the unripe side but still sweet. The bacon was ok. It was slightly overcooked in the middle and chewy on the ends. It was quite the experience eating here. The servers are really nice and really good at making sure your coffee cup is always full! By the time we left, there was a good crowd of people coming in. It was cool to experience Baker's local diner. It was neat dining here with all the locals.

With its varied menu and delicious happy hour selection this place could be a favorite for a wide variety of the local population. Classy, welcoming with engaging staff. While the selections of taps are diverse and smart for diners, it is the kitchen that is the real star here. We tried the Happy Hour fare (3-5 pm). See the pics for details. We also tried the Kobe sliders, but they fell short of the Chicken Sliders with their tender, juicy cuts of breast. The lineup of drinks are on full display at the bar and with scannable menus. This is a solid place for bringing friends or family for a gathering - yes, like the name suggests "Common". If anyone in your group cannot find a drink and meal to their liking, then you need to replace that person from your social circle or family. 2 hour free parking directly behind the building makes this location much better than the downtown businesses in the liberal ghetto of Boise where they will soon tax the air you breathe. Here, the pricing will not require you to take out a second mortgage as the Boise elites would have you do for eating in their downtown. It is no surprise that more quality dining places are opening in cities like Eagle, Caldwell, Nampa and Meridian where Idahoans can enjoy life.

The pan seared salmon with mashed potatoes and asparagus was good after a little salt and pepper. Service was great. No issues here at all. Can't really comment on price since it was a business dinner that management covered. Overall it was just okay. Just the food was a bit lacking

Update: My wife and I decided to give the Meridian BY another try. It is Monday, President's Day…read more We came about 11 am. The place was very crowded. As I mentioned previously, I was a patron of the flagship BY in Pacific Beach, having grown up and spent most of my life in San Diego. We were sat at a booth right away, which we liked. Our server, Tyler, was a very friendly guy. He was also very busy. He was covering tables all over the restaurant. He took our order, and had to come back later to tell us what we already knew: our food was taking longer than usual to come out. My wife had her usual eggs, bacon, hashbrowns, and toast. You can't go too wrong with that. I ordered the chorizo and eggs with corn tortillas. The chorizo seemed to be in chunks within the eggs, so that you could get a bit of eggs with no chorizo. I like mine mixed up well in the eggs, and that is what I'm used to. The Mexican rice was dry but the refried beans were good. The corn tortillas seemed like raw tortillas barely steamed and only lukewarm. Not appetizing. So, kudos to Tyler for being a nice and hardworking guy. Otherwise, this BY does not remind me of my experiences in the San Diego locations. The food is not impressive and as I said in my previous review, there are so many other cool places to enjoy breakfast in the Treasure Valley.
