Saturday afternoon, 1 pm, we were hungry for lunch and, as this is a fishing fleet town, we wanted fresh fish. The seafood chowder was very good, but confusion ensued as we asked for our soup first to be followed by a fresh haddock plate with fresh veg and mashed potatoes. We were given a bowl of soup which definitely didn't look like seafood chowder. We tried and decided it was potato leek, so I took it back. The server had misunderstood, not realizing that we wanted our chowder first. Apparently seafood chowder isn't soup. Whether that's a lack of experience and training or a regional terminology difference, I don't know. Chowder was delicious. The haddock, which she said she would cook fresh, was coated then cooked to dark brown, so it was over-cooked and dried out. Carrots and parsnips had been boiled then sat in a warming table and were dried out and rather flavorless. Green beans were blah. Mashed potatoes were good, parsley sauce was good but needed the spark of lemon which I added myself. read more
