Bayshore Painting was recommended to me by an excellent realtor, so I was hoping they were professional painters, they are not. They quoted for me painting of my home and separately for $1000 the walls and ceiling in the one car garage. I had a moving truck coming in soon, so even though I thought the garage quote for $1000 was high, because they were willing to paint it before the move day and were recommended by my realtor, I figured it was worth paying the higher price and having the work done fast and well.
What a disappointment. When we came to inspect after they said they were done, it was a disaster. They had only applied one coat of paint, so you could see the underlying color, the line between the dark ceiling and light walls was so wavy it looked like someone with Parkinson's had painted it. They did not paint up to the metal hardware on the ceiling so there were wavy areas of white around the metal hardware contrasting against the dark ceiling, the door frame was not sanded, it was brushed over quickly so some places did not even have a single layer of paint, they painted over hair, debris, and whatever was attached to the door and frame. Since the walls are cinder blocks, they glazed over the surface with the light grey paint, but you could see all the textured white holes in the cinder block that they did not bother to paint. and there were other issues. When I brought this up, they said they made a mistake and were not done and would fix it. Fine.
By the second time they said they were done, and we inspected, it was clear that they did a spot touch up and did not bother to put a second coat across all the walls. There was still underlying white paint visible. The door frame was better, but the entire left side closest to the wall was not even painted with one coat of paint! I guess they figured no one would bother to look. There were still unpainted white spots all over the walls, corners, and on the door frame. In addition, they did not care to protect the floor, so now there was a bunch of paint splatter on the floor. I asked Frank to come and inspect with me and tell me if he considers this quality work he is willing to accept.
At this point, it is past my expected move in date. Fortunately, my move truck was late, so the garage was still empty. Frank meets me at the garage with a two other people. I believe one was the actual painter (I believe Frank does not paint and just hires a sub contractor) and I believe the third was a paint specialist from Sherwin Williams. No idea why the paint specialist was there; there was no issue with the quality of the paint, just with the quality of the painting.
Frank was a smooth talker and tried to explain how this is"just a garage" and he would do a better job inside the home. As if I am about to let him paint my home after this fiasco! He explains how he has painted on commercial multi million dollar real estate and also how the moisture in the air affects the paint. I don't really care. The end result in my garage is what matters and not whether there was moisture in the air and how he painted other people's places. Frank and the other painter agreed that there were issues that need to be corrected and agreed to come again to fix them.
The third time they came out, they corrected most issues, but still left parts of the door frame unpainted, there were still white spots from underlying paint on the walls and corners. At this point, I just gave up. I sent him the check for $1000 and came in with my father on a Saturday and spent a few hours painting the unpainted portions, touching up, painting over the paint splatter on the floor, and fixing the problems left behind by Frank and his team.
They also did not bother to mention that they would not be painting over the wood trim on the inside of the garage that the garage door is mounted to. You would think that if a client wants to paint the whole interior of the garage, that would include the trim too. Even if it was not included in the quote, it should have been mentioned. I ended up painting this myself.
I wish that Frank's painters were as competent at painting as Frank is smooth at talking, but that is not the case. This was an utter waste of time and money. If I am hiring painting professionals, I expect the job to be done well. I certainly do not expect to babysit twice and then come in to touch up myself after everything is done.
I have moved over 24 times in my life, have seen painting in multiple rental properties, so I am very familiar with what is a quality paint job and what is not. This was by far the WORST paint job I have witnessed. I was debating whether to post a review, but if I were considering hiring Bayshore Painting, I would want to know what I am getting myself into. read more
