Waco, TX, home on Baylor university, is quite the hidden gem of Texas cities. It is known for its…read moretop three top tourist attractions: 1) Waco Mammoth National Monument 2) Texas Ranger Hall of Fame and Museum, and 3) Dr. Pepper Museum. Waco is also known for the Waco Suspension Bridge, zoo and parks. However, most notably Waco amassed large media presence from the David Koresh standoff. David Koresh was the cult leader of the Branch Davidians, a religious sect based at the Mount Carmel Center near Waco, Texas. The group believed in apocalyptic prophecies and Koresh claimed to be the messiah. Allegations of child abuse and illegal weapons stockpiling drew federal attention. For 51 days, there was a standoff between the Branch Davidians and the US Bureau of Alcohol, Tabacco and Firearms (ATF) and later including the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The FBI deployed tear gas, and, in the process, a fire started that took the lives of adults and children. Looking at this very pristine city now, you could not imagine such an horrific event happening.

They have extended the area and they now feature lots of mom-and-pop stores and eateries. There are yards and gardens where kids can play. (Dogs not allowed on the greens, though, so booooo... they might consider building one, maybe!) Made a stop at the store and like the last time, everything is still extra pricey. I did score a nice wooden soap dish at their clearance area, though, so at least I didn't leave empty handed this time. I won't say "never again" regrading coming back since I ended up eating my words anyway. A solid "maybe" might be more appropriate...

The owners/promoters that took over these past few years have made lots of changes, for the better. My child, this past summer while visiting her grandparents,…read morehad the privileged opportunity of taking dance with and in the studio of my old friend, and former dance company partner, Gina Nix, owner and dance teacher of All That Jazz Dance Academy. What I am surprised about, is how much time has gone by: 20 years her studio has been up and running, and they are still going strong! (Omg, I feel old). I knew in my heart and gut, if anyone in our company was going to grow up to own and operate her own successful dance studio, that person would be Gina Nix. I can't believe my four-year-old learned so much within a month's time! Truthfully, because of Gina, I'm not surprised at all. "Miss Gina" is not a shrewd disciplinarian, though she definitely knows how to command her space with movement (that thing she teaches) with great skill, patience, talent, and in her own meticulous fashion. Her students learn what their parents pay them to learn- HOW TO DANCE CORRECTLY. And from what I've seen, they manage to have a great time to boot. My little girl (now in kindergarten and back in CA ) will still, at random, practice shuffle-hop step's, arabesques and pique turns in public, at home, at the grocery store etc., and loudly verbalize the dance terminology as she goes. What a blessing she was in such good hands at All That Jazz! It will always be my hope that the students and staff at All That Jazz maintain to receive the kudos they deserve; both in their hometown, and in all the cities in which they successfully go to compete several times every year. I will always be rooting for them and my heart, and yelling, "Break a Leg!" And for the studio's namesake, "Its Showtime, Folks!"

I needed some type of exercise routine that was both effective and fun, so over a decade ago, I…read morestarted attending the Ladies Class at ATJ -- ballet, tap and jazz, every Wednesday night. I'll never be a ballerina, a Fosse impersonator, or move like Bojangles, but I will keep improving my flexibility, balance, and conditioning and enjoy it immensely. Ms Gina is our outstanding teacher (and now friend) and I highly recommend ATJ for the young AND old.
