Took my daughter to Bay Play in Oakland and we had a great time! It's a clean, well-designed indoor playground with just the right mix of fun and safe. The moment we walked in, the staff was super friendly and welcoming--made us feel right at home. She had an absolute blast. There were plenty of things for her to climb, explore, and interact with, and I appreciated that the space felt organized but still allowed kids to be kids. You can tell they've put real thought into making it a joyful environment. It's also nice as a parent to have a spot where you can sit back and relax a bit while your little one is totally engaged. We'll definitely be back soon!

It's so exciting to have a new place space in Oakland! I really like the convenience of this place, and it's really big. They have multiple climbing walls and in another freestyle, climbing area a nice bounce house, a small toddler area and then also big climb structure for the children just to run around and get lost then. There are also a ton of arcade games. And I mean a ton! They take up about a quarter of the space and there seems to be a little bit of something for everyone. There is also supposed to be an American ninja style obstacle course, but they were just setting it up the time we went. Hopefully it's up the next time we go. I do like how this place has dedicated toddler hours in the morning and then it's open for all ages thereafter. Overall, I really like this place and felt like there was a lot of great seating for parents and caregivers. I will say that I was not a fan of having all the arcades as soon as you walk through the door. It's definitely distracting for the kids and the kids just really wanna run to that versus wanting to use the obstacle course or the play structure. I would have preferred the arcade games to be a little out of the way maybe towards the back versus the play structure being towards the back. There are also little prizes you can win, but ultimately it's a lot of money. I can get very expensive really quickly with just playing those arcade games. There's also a little cubby place for shoes, and then lockers which it's one set price and then per hour additional dollar. I did take one star off because while this is a play place, it feels more like I would spend a ton of money here because of the way it's set up. So I know every time I go, it's gonna be really hard to convince my kids that they don't need to play any of the arcade games because they're right there and in your face. I do also think the price point is pretty expensive given the place structure size, but I think that it's great that they have the climbing walls and then the ninja obstacle course and hopefully it will all balance out. Food is allowed in here, but I do hope that they actually start selling food as well, which would be really helpful for those parents like me who always forget something. There is tons of parking outside and a dedicated lot as well.

Visited with my 5 year old today and he had so much fun. I wish we had more time to stay but we had an hour to burn and found this place nearby. Super clean, bathrooms at the front and back of the facility and lots of seating available for parents and for rest breaks. Everyone has to take shoes off so be prepared for that, especially given the bathrooms. I'll probably bring crocs next time and keep them on me. Bathrooms have changing tables which is great. The arcade games are so fun and kinda different than regular arcades. We got a $40 card and are considering the membership. We will definitely come back!!

We went to a kids birthday party at Bay Play this weekend and it was so fun! There's so much for kids to do - lots of climbing structures, bounce houses, an arcade, and big slides. The kids were entertained for hours!! Will definitely be back soon.

Is it safe to park in this part of Oakland?

It's safer than some other areas but there is very little parking- literally a few spots and you still have to be careful. Make sure you take plenty of water bc it's incredibly hot and the manager doesn't seem to care.

I like the prices of the games on Sundays as its discounted 7.25 pp per game. Not bad. Shoes are like $5 pp. We came to the front desk and they aren't very friendly but they get their job done handing you the basket of shoes. No emotion or friendliness - just take payment, hand over basket. Okay I guess. We went over to our lane and i was surprised how empty it was in there. We were the only ones playing for awhile until maybe three more sets of groups came in. What I didn't understand was why they placed these other groups so close to us? There were so many empty lanes that they could have spread us out more. A couple of young ladies asked if we wanted to buy any food but because we just came back from breakfast we declined. I went over to the bar to ask for water and they looked at me funny when I asked for a pitcher of water. I am paying for bowling, is water that hard to come by? She reluctantly poured me 4 glasses of water. I guess. This place is just okay - the customer service needs help especially with D&B open down the street. The arcade is small and there were a few patrons in the other areas - maybe its busier on non-holidays?

The museum is a very interesting place, and the gal that was manning the operations that day was very welcoming and friendly. Parents who are supervising but not playing can avoid paying, which is a welcome option. Regarding the technical aspects: It's awesome that there are various levels of PC games available: 1. 486DX-33 setup with Doom, Hexen, Heretic, etc. Let the kids understand the +/- screen size and FPS limits 2. Mac with all the Marathons 3. C64 4. Apple II with Zork and the Oregon Trail 5. Laptop with SCUMM games 6. Win98 with Tribes, UT, etc Regarding the console options, many of the consoles are not playing real carts, but are emulators. There were NES, Wii U, Wii, PS2, Genesis, Master system, PS2, PS3 and Xbox setups. Some played real games, and some played from roms/images. This is fine, but if you are expecting to come and play 100% 1:1 setups, that is not the case. There were no Turbografx, Neogeo, 32x, Sega CD, Saturn, Jaguar, virtual boy, etc playable setups. However, some of these were on display. The lack of older (non emulated) consoles such as Intellivision, 2600, Odyssey being available to play hard games is unfortunate, but understandable given the age of the hardware. The amount of displayed boxed games for various consoles and PC was very impressive. My only disappointment was that the Steel Battalion setup seems to have been retired for public use. This is one of the most hardcore games for Xbox that most people would never have a chance to experience. If you are passing through and grew up with PC or console games, I highly recommend a stop here.

The staff is very nice, friendly and knowledgeable. Only a few machines weren't working, but they had signs so you knew, but almost all of them were working and available to play. Also each machine had a sign that gave some history regarding the art design/layout, or how the particular machine was unique/different etc. I tried to read more of the descriptions but got too caught up in just playing them that I didn't read and learn as much as I should have. Next time I come back I will try to read a bit more. The info provided was actually pretty interesting but I got dazzled by all the blinking lights and sounds. So fun! Speaking of sound- there is enough space between each machine that you aren't drowned out by the other machines or players. There are several rooms of machines so people can spread out. The only thing I would have changed is it is very dark inside (I am guessing to keep the place cool) so it was a little hard to see the action with my aged eyes. Younger people won't have any problems. I am guessing also this place must look amazing at night. We were there mid afternoon. The room with the older machines was nice and bright which was nice. The newer machines are in darker rooms to add to the mood? As we were there on a Friday afternoon, not too many kids/teenagers, but don't know what the clientele would be after school.
