I had a good feeling about this place when I first saw the big statue of a frog reading a book outside with benches for reading outdoors. Inside it is well organized with whole sections for kids and individual rooms for audio, including lots of CD's and audiobooks and other library functions open to the public. The library offers access to their full catalog as well as to assistance with technology research and a host of special programs, including story time for children. Additional resources are available online through ebooks and streaming videos with your library card.  Over 34, 000 movies and documentaries as well as the Great Course is available there.  They are even offering Zoom talks!   With COVID protocols the library is now open Mon - Fri 10am - 6pm with social distancing with a building capacity is of 50. There are 4 computers available in the computer lab, test proctoring is available by appointment. Book drop is open and available at the back of the building. and you can call ahead at (251-968-1176) if you prefer take-out service. Meeting room, notary service, and on-site programming not available at this time. A cool service is their free Wi-Fi which is available 24/7 eve after hours, you can access this service from their parking lot! They will scan documents to your email free of charge and printing services are available from the computer lab and photo copying is available at 15¢ per page. Bottom line: We love to get our books at the library and sometimes just hang out and this is a great place for both. Check it out!!

Ok, so no one gets too excited about going to the library, but the employees here are SO nice…read more As a visitor to the GS area, I needed to print some documents. I have a library card to MY public library, but it was 15 hours north. No worries. I asked for help and they delivered. They assigned me a temporary computer password, I logged in, set up the print job and they printed it for me. I paid for my prints and I was on my way. They were SO NICE! Sadly, I would probably not get this kind of customer service at my home library. They need to take some lessons on customer service from TBNPB.

To anyone thinking about going to Coastal Alabama Community College please read and heed the…read morefollowing or you will possibly be having to take the same classes later on, even if you transferred to an in-state college. Here's my story: I went to this place back in the early 1990s when it used to be called "Faulkner State Community College." Back when I started there I was uncertain as to what my major was going to be, but I knew I was going to transfer to the University of South Alabama (or South Alabama as it's called) to finish my degree. For two years, I went to Faulkner State and took my basic classes. One of the things they said back then (and from what I heard they still do) is "all classes transfer to the college of your choice." South Alabama is an in-state college so I figured when I transferred it it shouldn't be a problem as I thought all my classes would transfer over without an issue. Then I transferred to South Alabama, and when I did, boy was I fuming! According to my transcripts from Faulkner State when I transferred I should have been a class or two shy of being a junior, but when I learned there was a whole slew of classes that South Alabama would not take, it put me back to being a freshman again I was furious! I was also on a limited income and didn't have that much money for college so I had to start working full-time and going to school at night which messed my plans up as I was planning to finish classes during the day. Turns out, I was not the only one as there were other students that happened to. One guy I knew who went through the Faulkner State "pre-engineering program" transferred to Auburn university only to learn there was several classes Auburn would not take causing him to pretty much start from scratch. Well, I took it as a lesson learned and although it screwed up my plans and caused me to have to go to college about a year and a half more, I eventually did finish my degree. Well, fast forward a little over 20 years later. My daughter recently graduated from high school and decided she wanted to go to Coastal Alabama. At first, I was a little skittish about her going there because I remember what it used to be when it was Faulkner State. I wondered if the only thing had changed about that place was nothing but the name and that's it. Well, that was exactly what happened: they changed the name and the name only. She took basic classes at Coastal, then transferred to South Alabama's nursing program only to learn she lost about five classes, putting her about a year behind graduating. You can imagine mine and anger at this point in time! I thought that place had changed for the better but it didn't and it's still the same old money grabbing lying institution it was when it used to be known as Faulkner State. Transferring out of state is one thing and I understand you can lose classes, but transferring in-state should not be a problem. The only recourse I have against this joke masquerading as a community college is to warn everyone else of what happened with me and my daughter. 20+ years is a long time for things to change, but once again, the only thing that changed about Faulkner State was its name as it's still the same lying money, laundering entity masquerading as a community college. I heard rumors that Faulkner State had been sued because of that which makes me wonder if that's the reason why they change their name to Coastal? Nevertheless, my daughter eventually graduated South Alabama, is now a nurse and we both have taken pleasure (and will continue to do so) in turning upwards of at least 40 people away from Coastal Alabama. After hearing our story, they went somewhere else. So PLEASE before you think Coastal Alabama would be a good choice to start out at then transfer to a major university, think it over otherwise you're going to be wasting time and money. I remember when I went to Faulkner State. There were people that called it a "glorified high school." I take it a step further: Coastal Alabama is a bovine excrement entity that spreads nothing but lies and BS. You have been warned!
