This will be an abbreviated review because did not order, their menu and ordering process is fairly complicated and diverse, and I know we will be back for a more organized and accurate accounting of the foods ordered and the details. They have been open for over a year, and we live less than a mile away? WHO KNEW?? All four dishes were very good. However we each go in different directions in terms of tastes, spice severity, and then composition of sauces and flavors. spicey cauliflower and the tofu dish I got were very nice to my liking. My wife liked here chicken dish and my daughter like HER chicken dish. In the end there were multiple favorites and then the 2nd and third place were "sides" . Great job, not too expensive, counter service was prompt, fst, and the order we placed 5 hours previous was ready (not cold or even warm) and was perfect when I got it home. read more

Delivery by DoorDash was fast and efficient - everything arrived hot and fresh. The C21. Butter Chicken was stupendous! I ordered it mild but it still had a bit of heat that built up over the meal. The Fish Biriyani was very, very good but even ordered mild was quite spicy. The B02. Garlic Naan was excellent too. There were some excellent sauces that were included - none seemed spicy, just very flavorful. One container of white rice was included but I'm not sure which entree it came with. read more

My wife and I really enjoy Indian food, and at the Bay Leaf the cuisine is excellent. I wish I had taken more pictures but I barely got one: Cauliflower Manchurian. I already had eaten a bite when my wife reminded me that I usually take pictures. My apologies, but the food was so good I didn't want to stop for pictures. I started with the Cauliflower Manchurian and I had to keep reminding myself I was eating cauliflower, otherwise I would have thought it was some sort of meat. The appetizer serving was so large it could be taken for an entrée. For entrees my wife ordered the Jalfrezi - Balti with beef, and I ordered the Mango Curry with lamb. She enjoyed her order as it was spicy and just a bit hot. My Mango Cuddy was terrific and just slightly sweet. The accompanying rice was light and was perfect for mixing with the entrees. We ordered the garlic naan which was just right for dipping. To drink, we enjoyed bottles of Indian beer which we poured into frosted mugs. This restaurant is not just an Osprey jewel but a Sarasota jewel, you should not overlook it. read more

Had their lunch special with the lamb vindaloo. The boss had her usual chicken Tikka masala. Bit our lunches were very good. The lamb vindaloo was flavorful and of course spicy. The papas wasn't as crisp as I like. The samosa was tasty as well as the naan. The chicken Tikka masala was also flavorful and the boss liked it Service was very good and the place is quite large. This place is tucked away inside a strip mall, and if you were driving along on 41 and didn't know about it you would probably miss it. However, if you're in Osprey, don't miss it. The inside smells of delicious Indian spice, and there was an Indian family just getting seated, which I usually take as a good sign. The interior has some Indian touches, but is lovely and modern, instead of other competitors who tend to go with dark carved wood that makes the place less inviting/dark. I first ordered paneer pakoras. I never had paneer pakoras, I usually get a vegetable pakora but they didn't seem to have that on the menu, so I went with paneer. Paneer is a kind of relatively mild cheese, and these pakoras had a crispy outside; the inside was like a firm tofu. It was served with three sauces, a mint, an onion, and a tamarind sauce, and each was flavorful and delicious. I found myself rationing the pakoras and trying to figure out which sauce I wanted to end with. I also ordered the Chicken Vindaloo. I asked for "spicy," and it had a very nice bite to it, but not unbearable (although I'm Thai, and my definition of "hot" might be way different than yours). It does make me wonder how hot the phaal is though. Otherwise, a delicious if unsurprising vindaloo. I also ordered garlic naan, and that too was excellent, although I love naan; if I wasn't alone I'd have ordered one for myself and one for my dinner companion. I want to say I got four good sized pieces, but I'm not sure. It was perfect for me though. Overall, I don't really think of Osprey for any kind of ethnic food, so that makes Bay Leaf a real find, and you absolutely should go. read more

This is a happy story. My wife, daughter, and I are in Sarasota and wanted good Indian cuisine, for which Tikka in Venice (about 20 minutes away) was first choice. But the problem there was that they're so good that a long wait is inevitable during peak times. (Reservations aren't accepted.) So Plan B: We were aware of Bay Leaf in Osprey, about half as far from our place, and reviews were good, but when we tried to visit them for the first time a couple of months ago they were inexplicably closed with no indication why or whether it was temporary. Thus, our hopes were not high when we bailed on Tikka. Not much to lose, though, since we'd have to pass Bay Leaf's location on our way back to Sarasota. We got to Bay Leaf and, hooray, they were open, and not even crowded on a Thursday evening. We were seated immediately. For starters we ordered Paneer Pakora and Masala Papad. We had never had the first item before, knew only that paneer means some kind of cheese. Well, it arrived with the usual accompanying mint and tamarind and onion sauces, and my daughter couldn't stop raving about it. I liked it, too. The papad is what other Indian places call papadam, a garbanzo and lentil-based fried thin crisp bread. This was obviously fresh-made and came with what the restaurant calls masala, which I would've called Indian bruschetta--it was wonderful. We had some masala left after the papad was gone and I had it later with the excellent plain naan that we ordered with our dinner. Very, very good. My wife ordered her favorite Indian dish, chicken tikka massala and pronounced it excellent. She also ordered chicken with korma (creamy cashew) sauce, and this too was good. My daughter got the chicken with coconut cream curry sauce and liked it very much. I went for the fish nirvana (salmon in a coconut cream and kerala curry sauce), and it was fantastic. Can't wait to enjoy the leftovers, which I will because wife and daughter are both averse to fish. (That's fine, more for me.) I also had the chicken biriyani, which came with a raita sauce. This was a lot of food, and we knew we'd be taking it away with us at the end. Just had some of the biriyani for lunch, and it's first class. Service was good. Various servers brought things to us throughout the meal, and there wasn't much of a language barrier, though the staff are plainly from the subcontinent. I believe in commending outfits that do what they're supposed to well, and Bay Leaf absolutely qualifies. We'll be going back for more soon. read more

Had an amazing Indian meal. We love Indian food and this is by far the best we have found in the Sarasota area. Reasonable priced, good service, great value for money. We had samosas, chicken tikka Marsala, chicken butter Marsala, naan and raita. Everything was excellent, chicken was tender, juicy and plentiful. Spice levels were great, my husband asked for Indian spicy and it did not disappoint. Will 100% be back, now our go-to Indian. read more

One of the best Indian restaurants Ive been to in Florida. Location is a bit farther away from everything else but everything else makes up for it. The restaurant itself is very spacious, clean, and has a nice ambiance. The service is amazing, very nice hosts and servers. Their lunch thali offers an incredible value, for $15 you get to pick a chicken entree, rice, naan, papad, samosa, chole, and a dessert. I had to take some to go because I couldn't finish it all. Their butter chicken was some of the best Ive had, not just some plain chicken in tomato sauce, it was actually veey flavorful and the chicken was well marinated. They also have buffet on weekends which I will be coming back to try. Definitely recommend! read more

I had the Lamb Vindaloo and my mother had the Madras Masala curry with lamb. We also had Peshwari Naan and some spring rolls. Everything was cooked perfectly! If we could give more that 5 stars we would. This place just opened in January. The restaurant was empty when we walked in because it was around 5:30. Things started to pick up by 6:30pm. Bay Leaf Indian restaurant - What a fabulous experience. Always loved ordering and take out but never experienced the restaurant - glad we did. Ambiance is pleasant, spacious and clean. Large booths and tables. Loved the Indian music in the back ground. Amazing flavors; we were a table of 6, we all ordered different stews with variety of sauces, Tandoor chicken, etc... we were all impressed. In fact went there over the last weekend. It's always so crowded , seats are close to each other ,no booths to sit in . So I go to my nail girl and she tells me about this amazing restaurant called Bayleaf Osprey. I've passed almost every day. Well we finally went this evening . I'm gonna share the secret . This place is fantastic. Greeted right away . Seating is spacious , tables round table style fir large groups . Plenty of booths and space . Very best, clean and tidy. Service is excellent. Had the Cauliflower Manchurian. The difference between Bay Leaf and the other restaurant. Your not just eating a plate of fried cauliflower. This has presentation , cabbage, cauliflower is in nice bite size pieces and fresh crisp peppers and onions . We got everything medium heat . Was perfect . Their menu is very thorough. Explaining the sauces and spice level. Lots of vegan veggie options . Great assortment of meats. Lamb, goat . Chicken , beef n tofu salmon and other seafoods . We got butter chicken Masala and coconut curry chicken Masala. Each comes with its own bowl of rice . I recommend getting a few appetizers and sharing one entree, because it's more than enough for two . We did each get our own so we could share and have leftovers for lunch . We also got garlic naan bread which was perfect for dipping into the sauces . Some of the best restaurants are in these strip malls. It's easy to pass by . Food was good for the majority of our party, but others were hesitant, fearing curry and/or heat. For curry, you choose your protein (lamb, beef, veg, tofu, fish, goat--yes goat. So you know this place is authentic. ) and type of curry dish: masala, butter, bindaloo, jalfrezi, nirvana. Red peppers indicate heat level and we were asked if we wanted ours mild, spicy, or hot--even if there were no peppers on the menu. Good call. For the spice averse, order tandori items or even lamb chops but our friends didn't order tandori and didn't like the lamb chops. Guess Indian cuisine is not to their liking, which is OK. I give them credit for trying. For me, I'll be back. As for the wine, we ordered the more expensive Pinot noir. Awful! Switched to Merlot. Better. Much better. I like this place. We stopped into this newly acquired previously a breakfast place on a Sunday around 1 pm. It was fairly full. Largely with India people who were catching up and enjoying the food. No one was at the door- but someone said- find a table- and so we did! Asked for a menu- but was told it was a buffet, unless we preferred a menu. So we were game and decided to try the buffet. The food offerings were not in warmers but in a pan. A nice selection- but haphazardly arranged- rice in the middle- sauces first, naan next? But we continued - the food itself ranged from good- to very good, and not so good dessert! But we didn't come from dessert. We were not directed in anyway, nor told the price. Which was $25.00 each.(no drink). I think next time I would order off the menu, just for the way the buffet food was offered- and not very warm. But I will go again. It was tasty! read more

The only Indian cuisine I've found in the Sarasota area that is ACTUALLY spicy when you request spicy. I like when it makes you cry/burns your lips, and they're able to make that happen if you want. Dinner was delightful & delicious; our server was charming, knowledgable & informative, plus patient with my many questions. Sadly I forgot to take a picture - I was too hungry & dove right in. I had coconut masala with vegetables, served with rice & of course I ordered Naan. Nice presentation, good portion & so flavorful. Definitely will be on my 'need to return soon' list. Wowwww!!! We go to Indian restaurants every place we travel. We put this restaurant up at the top only with one other restaurant that we went to in New Zealand. We ordered 3 different curries: Saag (spinach dip with chicken), Butter chicken masala, and the Mango coconut curry. All 3 dishes were full of flavor. The prices were fair. This place is definitely worth returning to and spending money on. I one hundred percent recommend. We will absolutely come back the next time we are on the west coast of Florida.
