Great to ride. Great to catch on Powell Street. And great to ride up the hills of San Francisco. For me, it's a time-trip up & down memory lane. It's sad that this costs $6 as a single-rate trip, rather than as a free community-sponsored endeavor to convince people of the benefits of mass transit. Both Muni and BART our outgrowths of these modest cable car-beginnings. But in addition, it's critical to drive home to the citizenry with these tangible object-lessons when comparing the vast amounts of money that were poured into fossil fuels and cars, and how little that accomplished for the community good by comparison. SAD SAD HISTORY As such, cable cars on this line remain a vestige of a bygone era when we, as a society, were on the "right track" (har har, I love puns) to creating a transportation infrastructure that was both useful and did not have a huge carbon footprint such as the one created by cars & gad that are imperiling our lives today. However, the very tragic greedy collusion of oil magnates, coal barons, and car company overlords at the turn of the 19th to 20th centuries, ensured that for at least for a full century (and until well into another century) that fossil fuels, such as gas and coal, would continue to drive our cars and trains. And not only was it greedy, but it has damaged our planet. If we had remained an enlightened American society - instead of a greedy capitalist one - we would not be facing be the level of global warming we are today. And perhaps we would not have implicitly set a bar for industrialization that the Chinese and Indian sub-continent feel the need to duplicate now, furthering endangering our planet. MORE THAN A TOY OR TOURIST TRAP So when I see the beloved cable cars today, I think a lot of "what if?". What if the cable car had led to the earlier development a bullet trains? What if the cable car tracking mechanisms had been advanced faster, from chains, cables and tracks, to high-speed levitation? What if the trains of some future Sci-Fi dream were in fact the trains of NOW, a hundred years earlier, because we had actually engineered them to be? THE LOWDOWN If not for a greedy hiccup in time, this would have been the path we would have firmly remained upon.

I've never come across this level of hospitality before. Usually you have to contact a gate agent to assist in using the elevator and that is if it's working at that station. They seem to go in and out all the time and at some stations they never seem to be in operation. This is a good station to walk to if you are coming from or going to a Giants game. It's actually a closer walk then if you walk to the Embarcadero station and that is where most guests walk to when going to or coming from a GIants game. It's about a 15-20 minute walk from the Montgomery BART station to the Ball park. The BART station's first stop if you are heading from Oracle Park to the Pittsburg BayPoint line is the Montgomery station so when we arrive we were able to get seats. Next we stopped at the Embarcadero Station and it was flooded with people and there were very few seats for them, most people had to stand in our train. The initial wait for the train was 15 minutes from the time we entered the station from the Giants game till we hopped on the train. The Daly City line came several times over while we were waiting. Bathrooms. I can't speak to their bathroom situation as we used them at the Ballpark before we left so we didn't need to use them. BART no longer uses the old school BART tickets, they have revolved into using the Clipper Cards or a Credit Card. I have a plastic clipper card somewhere, but I'm not exactly sure where it is and failed to bring it. The good thing about using a Clipper Card is you aren't holding out your credit card to come and go using BART. I was afraid I would drop it in the crowd. They also have a Clipper App you can use, but I'm not a big fan of paying for things with apps. In the end I took my chances and used my credit card as a key to get in and out of the BART station. I'll probably use my Credit Card next time I use BART too just for the convince. In addition I don't like putting money on cards as I always end up with an odd amount left over that I can never use and it ends up to be lost money.

According to google maps, I could take the 2 Sutter / Clement or the 3 Jackson, but since the 3 came first, I just hopped on. In about 12 mins and 11 stops, I was at my destination on Sutter & Gough. Not bad for $2.75. (Though I think it's $2.50 with a clipper card?) The bus itself wasn't too packed. I was able to find a seat. A cheap way to get from downtown to japantown.

I love public transportation and take…read morepride in the fact that I knew exactly what each of the normal 38s (and the 38L) did and how to get to my brother's old house in the Outer Richmond on any of those buses, but this AX-BX thing is stupid. When I had an internship in Oakland and grad-school classes at night at USF, I used to catch this bus in the Financial District and get dropped off as close as possible to Lone Mountain. It does serve its purpose, and I do love that it doesn't pick up or drop off anyone for what seems like miles and miles and miles. But when it gets to the end of that express portion, it makes up for its former speediness with some ridiculously long stops. OK, maybe it deserves four stars, but I'm keeping it at three because the Financial District regulars are really mean. Yes, I realize that the general rule is that people who have been waiting longer should get to board the bus first, but no, there really is no line, and I don't feel bad at all for "ruining my [the angry guy in the gray suit's] entire day, you fat idiot." Honestly, I got called a fat idiot in public by a guy who had to endure the horror--the horror!--of standing on the bus exactly seven inches in front of where I was standing. Neither one of us got a seat, and I do believe that all the seats were taken by the time either of us had actually boarded the bus.

Glides through traffic without having other cars backing it up. I took this line from 6/2017-5/2019 and it was the best thing that ever happened to me when going across SF. Most of the time, bus drivers on this route know what they are doing. They are very sweet and some of them live along the route of where the bus goes. I needed more time to get to Golden Gate Park and this bus gets there in lesser time than the regular line. For students who are looking to transfer from SFSU bus lines and go to downtown SF, this bus takes the cake. For tourists this is a blessing for locals this is a diamond. I am not from SF but was lucky to get on.

When you need to travel within the vicinity that the 5 and 5L serves, you found the bus routes. Hopefully, these limited stop and express routes will address the crowding issue more effectively. The "L" after the number is written like an exponent so it may be hard to see. This is the same thing we will see on the bus signs for the 9L, 14L, 28L, 38L, & 71L. Once again, props to MUNI for opening this route. It is a lifesaver for me and other passengers.

I had and continue to have so many misgivings about the Central Subway project (spending $1.6…read morebillion for 1.7 miles of tunnel and only three new stations is a horrible waste of taxpayer money). But it's over now, and I can't deny that at least two of the three new stations are great, and I like that the T-Third Street is finally its own line again--plus its new route makes more sense than its original route. The worst thing about this station is its name. Stop using slashes in the names of transit stops! And transit lines, while you're at it. In most cases, the slash is to include additional information (which is why a slash is bad, because slashes mean either/or, while hyphens [-] *can* mean and, but they don't always), but in this case, they just chose Yerba Buena and Moscone. Huh? Yerba Buena what? Island? Avenue? Gardens? Center for the Arts? And you mean Moscone Center, right? Well, anyone who knows what and where the Moscone Center is also knows about all the Yerba Buena stuff, and vice versa. So why not just choose one name? Moscone Station. See? I solved that for you. Back to the station itself. Almost a year after opening (and before the pre-APEC deep clean), it was still practically spotless. There isn't too much graffiti, and the station itself is gorgeous, from the platform to the mezzanine to the escalators and stairs to the small area with public art at street level. The station is much deeper underground than I expected it to be. There's plenty of room at the bottom of the stairs and escalators, so it should never really feel crowded, except possibly on the platform at times. Realistically, I probably won't catch or get off the train at this station very often, but it's neat that it's here. While they're still clean, you should check out all three new stations.
