Our previous system (Trane) was installed in 2009. The installer had NO idea of how to properly install an system ( ie: air plenum was installed at 90 degree angle as opposed to 45 degree, junction box was NOT sealed, resulting in water stains upon ceiling) . Hence our total electric bills approached $350 mo. on Duke's budget plan. We secured bids from three firms, representing Carrier, Trane and Lennox. Last year I had a new unit put in. Apparently parts were hard to get. They supplied me with a temp unit for a few weeks. The unit from Bay Area was much more expensive than another unit (still pretty high end) I had installed in another house the year prior. To be fair it was an upgraded unit. I look at cost in overall terms. It really paid off this week. The unit went down, they had folks here in about 4 hours. The repair people were very professional. The problem was identified, the unit temporary fixed, with the new part to be installed first thing Monday morning. A warning - the old unit was also a very good brand. BUT - parts always took a week or so. When you are dealing with Florida heat in the summer, the near immediately available parts is a huge plus. Bay Area has a lifetime customer. read more

I've had the "Florida Promise" before, we'll be there in the morning, and never show up. But that has never happened at Bay Area Air. Scam alert!! They quote $87 for the service call which they said includes them diagnosing the problem. They were here less than 20 mins and never looked at anything other than the thermostat... and charged $167. He added an $80 "diagnostic fee" on top of what was quoted. I had the mispleasure of their "services" last Friday, May 31st. We are renters, and we were having an issue where our home was getting extremely warm in the late afternoon. After speaking with my landlord, she agreed to have us have someone come and check it out. So on Thursday, June 30th, I went to Google, and found Bay Area Air Conditioning. They had over a thousand positive reviews, and a 4.9 rating. I called them to come out and inspect our unit to see what the trouble may be. I was told that since I called before 3 pm, that a technician come out that day. By 8 pm, with no one showing up, I called and was informed that a technician would be calling me back shortly. Ten minutes later, I received a call and was told, that no one would be coming out that day, but he would have dispatch set up a call for first thing in the morning. Now we are at Friday, no call by 8:30 am, so I call, and am told that someone would be coming out that day. Finally around 5 pm, Mark the "technician" finally shows up, and begins trying to diagnose what the issue may be. At first, he thought there was too much freon in the unit, and removes a small amount, and realizes that the ac unit was not overcharged. He then replaced the freon, but the condenser was overheating, and then uses my water hose to cool it off. He stated that in about 40 minutes, it should kick on no problem. My wife and I went to dinner (because it was too hot to cook), and after we got back the temperature of the house rose from 78 degrees to 84 degrees. The condenser is turning on for about 3 seconds and shutting off. I immediately call to have someone come back out and correct this issue. Since it was past 9 pm, no one would be coming out, but a technician would be coming out on Saturday. Eventually, Rich, the new technician could not get it fixed either. Meanwhile, my landlord was quoted $5600 to "fix" our air conditioner. Now we get to today, June 3rd. I call in to speak to someone in charge, and I was told that John, the service supervisor would be calling me back. Fifteen minutes later, John called. As I was explaining to him what the issue was originally, and what the end result was of Mark's visit, John then explained that it was a bad condenser and that is why it died. I told him that it was working prior to Mark's arrival, and was dead after it left, to which John asked "if it was working, then why did you have us come out". End result, air conditioner still does not work, and while it was working prior to Mark's arrival, only to not be working by Mark's departure, in which logically can only boil down to one conclusion, and since logic no longer applies, I figure this is the best way to get out my story, and hopefully no one will be conned by them again. read more

I will definitely call Bay Area Air Conditioning when I need service. Our AC began freezing up so I checked online for the top-rated AC service companies in our area. I decided to call the second rated company to have them check out the unit. The Technician arrived and looked in the air handler then stated it was most likely the evaporator coil. He checked for leaks and said that he had found one and gave me a quote of $1,200.00 to replace the coil. I had some concern as and told him that I would need to wait for the repair, so he charged the unit with freon. He then revised his quote to $792.00. I called Bay Area Air Conditioning and asked them to come check the unit. They informed me that they do not charge for second opinions WOW! The Tech for Bay Area showed up and asked what the issue was. When I told him what the other company said he asked that I not tell him where the leak was found. Bay Area checked the evaporator coil and said there was no leak. I asked him to check it again, and again he found no leak. I pointed out the location where the other company said the coil was leaking and he checked again, no leak. He then began checking the outside equipment, something the other company did no do. When he removed then insulation around the freon line he found oil and said this could be your leak. He first used his leak detector and it indicated a leak at one of the solder joints. He next used a soap solution and pin pointed the location of the leak. He then fixed the solder joint and rechecked the unit. read more

Our heating and AC went out yesterday. We called Bay Area AC this morning (a Saturday), thinking they wouldn't be able to come out until Monday. Much to our surprise, they sent a technician out this morning. The technician found the problem right away-it was bad wiring at the outside unit, which had caused another part in the attic unit to go bad. He repaired both issues immediately. I thought the amount we were charged for parts and labor was fair and reasonable. We were really impressed with our technician's knowledge and ability to track down the problem(s), and get our heat/AC back up and running in no time at all. We will definitely be calling on Bay Area AC for our future HVAC needs. read more

Our A/C system was working "ok" ( although blower would not shut off), but after 18 years we felt it was best to replace it on OUR terms, not when it might go out on a weekend evening! We got a couple of estimates along with some personal recommendations, and although Bay Area was higher, they did a more thorough inspection and pointed out things that the other companies did not...things that I never even thought about which were important. We decided to go with them. After finding out that a part was on back order, they came out and repaired my old system so the blower would work correctly until the part came in...at no charge. That was nice. Yesterday they did the install and after some previously bad experiences with local contractors I was nervous about "verbal promises" vs what gets done. Let me just say they did EVERYTHING they said they would do! I am Completely satisfied with the neat and tidy job...well done Bay Area. A repairman came into our home felt or registers and said that the air flow was normal, called his boss and talked for about 3 minutes , came back in and charged us almost one hundred dollars for THAT. I had a horrible experience with Bay Area A/C. first of all they advertise You'll love our technicians" Well the tech that came out to my house was not only rude but outright sarcastic. Told me either pay the price or sweat and went on to say if I got sick I would pay the doctor or die! My A/C unit developed a pinhole leak in one of the copper lines. I temporarily sealed it and called Bay Area. The tech right off the bat gave me a worse case cost estimate of $874.00. Well low and behold that was the final cost. Was charged $284.00 for 4 lbs of new refrigerant and $386.00 to reinstall MY REFRIGERANT that was removed. I was charged more for my own stuff!! To make matters worse I was still charged for the initial service call on top of the labor charge! When I asked the owner why I was charged more for my own refrigerant and less for the new he didn't have an answer. Beware of tactics like these in the hot summer months. They have you over a barrel and they know it! My opinion of Bay Area is sweat first b4 using them!! read more

We purchased a brand new Carrier 2.5 ton unit from Bay Area Air Conditioning and had it installed November 21, 2014. We purchased the Silver residential service contract with the brand new Carrier unit also. (which is regular maintenance on the equipment once a year, 30% discount on parts and labor) On March 21, 2017 a Bay Area service technician came to do the annual maintenance service on the Unit (the unit was working perfectly) I have not had any problems with the unit since it was installed. The service technician after doing his routine maintenance on the unit told me that the outside unit had a major leak and that the coil on the unit needed to be replaced and refrigerant needed to be added after the coil was changed. At first I was surprised because the unit is only 2 years old. He explained to me that even though it was under warranty that I would have to pay for the labor portion of the repair. The job could take up to 3 hrs to change the coil. He said that someone from Bay Area will call me with the date that the unit could be repaired and that he put the heat pump on Emergency Heat for the time being. I ended up having to call Bay Area on 3 separate times (days) to finally be told how much it would cost for the labor portion of having the equipment repaired. I was told with the 30% discount for having the Silver service plan on my 2 year old unit that the labor portion of this repair would be $1,110.00!! (for a 3hr job) Needless to say I was floored and told them that I would be getting a second opinion from another company. I had another company from the local area come out the next day and that service technician found a very small leak in the outside unit but it was NOT from the coil. The leak was coming from one of the valves (looks almost like the valve where you put air in your car tires but smaller) on the unit and the leak was a very small minor leak and was not a major leak as I was told by the Bay Area technician. Also, there was no need to have had the unit put on Emergency Heat as the Bay Area technician had done!! Now I am waiting to see what the electric bill will be considering the 2 nights that the unit was on Emergency Heat was the coldest 2 nights of this winter season!!! The total cost for repair of the valve and refrigerant came to $200.00!!! What a BIG difference than the $1,110.00 quoted from Bay Area and Bay Area was going to replace something that didn't need replaced!! Needless to say I will not EVER use Bay Area Air Conditioning again and I will cancel the service contract I have with them and I already signed up with a new service contract with the other company which they have a better service contract at less of a price than Bay Area. The new company will come out and service the unit 2 times a year and will give a 10% discount on parts and labor for $125.00 a year where as Bay Area charged $189.00 a year, (says they give 30% off parts and labor) but and only come out once a year. I will advise not to use Bay Area Air Conditioning. read more
