    My Washi Tape loot!
    Pam S.

Tiny little place that is only open on Sundays. Parking right in front on the street is convenient but it's easy to miss this place. I have about 2 more locations left to drop into to finish up my #stationarystore crawl commitment! They had beautiful watercolor 'style' washi tape and postcards with original artwork from the people that work in the store. They have a nifty card catalogue for all of their washi tape so that you may see the design before purchasing. Lots of journals, ink, satchels, fountain pens, stamp inks, pen inks etc. Service was friendly and gracious that we had still made a point to come and visit them. Respectfully Reviewed

Their logo isn't written on the façade of the store but they do have this cute sign right outside their door :)

Shout out to Amanda for all her recommendations! I felt like I was the only newbie in the community, but she made me feel right at home. The shop inside is designed so intentionally and made it so fun to browse around. All the products are high quality and make for excellent gifts. The other guests were also super nice. Decent prices and I found street parking outside. Check their website or Instagram for their Opening Hours. So excited to try my new journal, pens, and washi tape!

The products are beautiful and the aspect of each one being meant to grown with you makes them so special. I ordered online and unboxing was such a treat with all the cute colorful ropes and stickers.

A delight mix of old and new, yet orderly and full of treats to be inspected and handled.

Some people like jewelry...but I'm a paper and pen kind of person! I also love things that get a patina and become better with time. Things that are beautiful because they are useful and do the job well. This store, with its limited square footage, narrow hours, and gentle staff, is my kind of shopping!

I love supporting local businesses, especially when they have super cute stuff for my planner. The store is small, but they have a good variety of products to choose from. They carry Midori Traveler's Notebooks, both standard and passport sizes in all 3 colors. They also have lots of accessories to choose from. The sales lady who was helping me was very helpful and knowledgeable. One other great thing is that you can personalize your planner in store with their variety of stamps and ink. They have different hours. The lady who works there said that the times they are closed to the public, they are busy fulfilling online orders. Apparently they package their orders really nice that they have a large online following. I may have to order online just so I can see the packaging for myself!

I have been wanting to go here for ages when I found out about this place somewhere on the internet. I've been stalking their IG and Wakao's account for the longest time! I drool over the variety of traveler's notebooks, leather goods, and other analogue items on their account. Every item they use are all Instagram worthy and beautiful to look at! This place is a dream for all those traveler notebook users. BK has a wide selection of stationary and writing tools that no other place can compare. They take careful selection of what they sell and I truly believe that because they are analogue lovers themselves, they wouldn't put an item on display if they didn't use it. I took advantage of their stamp station-I'm so glad I did and I had so much fun! Wakao and her assistant were so helpful and welcoming. I got to inquire about a specific pen Wakao uses and the assistant went ahead and grabbed it for me to look. I also got to see the Superior Labor engineer bags and how the sizes compare to each other. I've been eying it online for the longest time and now I'm certain that I want to get the extra small engineer bag in the future! I didn't go too crazy with my shopping here but I bought a modest amount of items: one washi tape, a Midori Clip band, and a Pentel Tradio pen. I think prices are pretty reasonable. When you go here, don't expect things to be cheap. It's not Daiso! But I believe that every item and purchase is worth it because as an avid journaler and traveler's notebook user myself, I appreciate quality over quantity and the art of using great materials for my analogue over cheap ones. The down side is that their hours are quite irregular and short. I came around 3 and they closed at 4 on Sunday. I would have loved to stay longer! I live in San Diego so this place is worth the drive but I seriously wish it were closer-I would go here every weekend!

SUPERIOR LABOR REVIEW: I was reading an article about Carlo Caraceni from Milan (legendary Italian tailor). They featured his EDC lambskin coin-wallet by Cedes Milano, and instantly, I was inspired. Two months later, I found out about Baum-Kuchen after researching for local stores that carry Kaweco (sport-fountain pens). Directions led me to Glassell Park on Verdugo road, and get this, the studio hours are from 2 - 4pm weekly with Thursday and Friday being the ONLY days of availability (seriously)?? The boutique / workshop is compact, fully stocked with utilitarian items mostly imported writing instruments, leather goods, canvas wallets, travel accessories, field-notes & hand-book journals. I came across this hickory leather coin-case shaped like a dove (impeccably made) hand stitched, tanned leather with brass fasteners (I had to have it). The company is originally from Okayama Japan, the brand is called, "The Superior Labor". A perfect addition to my collection and a nice little conversation piece. I'll definitely be visiting again in the near future.

This new space is absolutely massive and beautifully spread out! Walking inside instantly triggered so much nostalgia for the cute little bookstores and stationary shops I visited when I was in Japan. Everything is so neatly arranged and wrapped. They have an incredible selection of books in both English and Japanese. Seriously, they have everything you can think of: manga, magazines, cookbooks, adorable plushies, stationery, and T-shirts. When we went, they even had some amazing JoJo's Bizarre Adventure artwork on the wall and tons of Pokémon merch. My friend and I stopped by right after the anime convention ended, and the place was packed. Because it gets so busy, they have a strict "no drinks" policy, resulting in a hilariously massive pile of boba and coffees left at the front entrance. The employees seemed overwhelmed & nobody greeted us. My only real critique: Prepare yourself for the price tags. Everything is extremely overpriced. I saw a pretty basic black T-shirt featuring a famous Japanese artist's work going for $60. I get that it's specialty import stuff, but it's definitely an investment! Tip: It's a fantastic place to visit, but if you want to actually browse the Studio Ghibli or anime sections without fighting a crowd, try to come during the week!
