There are a number of different trails to explore that are well marked/kept (similar to all Trustees spaces). After some rain in the area, some of the areas are a bit muddy, so one may want to keep an eye on the weather/bring hiking shoes or other shoes you don't mind getting some mud on. You can also hear the hum of the freeway nearby. I also saw a wild turkey on this hike, which I trailed behind for about 10 minutes, haha! Glad to run into a fellow hiker on this trail! :)

Spent 2 hours walking around the main trail and enjoying the views of green trees. The air was fresh and there were a few people walking along. Park closes at 7pm! A lot of people bring their dogs. This hike has a lake where your dog can swim. Nature is beautiful, when you are walking around you could hear the woodpeckers. The only problem is parking. There were tons of dogs roaming about, owners right on their heels, so no worries about unattended animals. Clean(er) ponds, since they're connected to flowing water sources. There was only spot we saw where the water seemed stagnant. Most everywhere else it was relatively clean. It's not crystal blue Caribbean waters, obviously, but for your dog to swim in, it's good. CONS: Parking seemed tight. Found a spot, but it looks like local residents are not happy about street parking for overflow, so there were signs prohibiting street parking. This was at the Drabbington entrance. I'm sure there's another entrance I don't know about. OVERALL: My new gold standard for off leash hiking.

It may sound a bit corny, but Lone Tree is so peaceful and secluded from everything that you can walk around for hours. Most of the trails are in the woods or in the fields. I also sometimes see people with metal detectors hoping to hit the jackpot, but that's only in the summer. There are so many hidden paths and if you go a certain way, you will a couple of abandoned buildings filled with graffiti. I cannot recommend these trails anymore than I just did.

What the babyface? This park just popped up and was all, "Hey, I've been waiting. What's taken you…read moreso long?" Big ups to the ladyfriend for pointing out this on-leash, waterside, trail-loaded bundle of escapist joy. Wide open parks for playing fetch (yes, most peeps think their pup is perfectly mannered, so expect off-leash antics), picnic tables, rock faces for bouldering or Little People, Big World belay practice and a sweet lake sporting - GASP! - cattails. Cattails, people! At five or six spots around the aquatic perimeter, stone steps take you down to the water, which is boring in the warmer months, but come (oh I don't know) January, it's positions you perfectly to grab a paper thin piece of slowly forming ice to chuck along a thicker patch, thus creating that tympanic theremin sound nobody can describe but everyone knows. I love the proximity to Mass Ave and Route 2 without feeling like it's near either. I love the broken down Vita Course stations that are now just decomposing, wooden posts and I love whizzing stale bread through cattail stalks, sending poofs of velvety fibers exploding in to the crisp air, only to send the damaged crust gliding gracefully across way-too-thin ice to live its bird-attracting life at the center of the lake. Oh Arlington, the things you do.
