Good value VW workshop…read more They don't take long to do the work, and they don't con you with high labour costs. £36/hour is pretty good IMO. Not had any problems getting work done here, and they're happy to let you leave your car in the forecourt overnight if you get recovered by someone eg RAC.

I've have used VW Services for my last two vehicles (Mk4 VW Golf and a Skoda Octavia) and found…read morethem to be very friendly, fair and honest. After a recent MOT they quoted very reasonable prices for the work it needed to pass and, surprisingly, a good price for a tyre that needed replacing. They have been quite happy to fit parts that I have provided for them and, unlike a lot of other garages I have used in the past, are very prompt to call me when the work is done, leaving messages when I have not been able to answer the call. In my experience I find them very knowledgeable and will continue to use them for MOTs, servicing and repairs while I own a VAG car.

I always imagined e-tyres.co.uk were the cheapest source for new tyres. However, upon being…read morerecommended this place I have discovered further competitive prices. It's not the easiest place to get to, located at the top of a slope and on the peak of a tight 'boomerang' crescent. Due to limited space inside the depot it is also difficult to reverse from, though someone is at hand to guide you out. I wanted a 195/65/R15/H profile and the cheapest tyre was £38, which was temporarily out of stock. The next one up was £44.62 (VAT, balancing and valve inc.), though this was still cheaper than e-tyres. The mechanic examined my tyre and identified the reason it was losing air was because of bubbles that had formed on the inner lining of the alloy. He helpfully smoothed down the alloy at no extra charge. You don't feel like you're being 'had', which is important to me from any service where my mechanical nous is limited. The mechanic suggested I have another tyre changed, and pointed out the metal spikes that had begun to show from the worn rubber as the reason. Upon seeing the condition of that same tyre, one of the other guys bluntly told me that if he were a judge he'd take my licence away! That kind of stoney-faced statement can be mistaken for rudeness amongst more sensitive souls, but I personally appreciated his honesty. If you're after a quick, efficient service and cheap, good-value tyres then this is the place to come.

So, back to Cabot Tyres I went. Opted for a mid-range tyre that was a very competitive price, even compared to online. Great service, as always, and it would be the first place I recommend to others. Only downside was making a fool of myself trying to reverse out of the building!
