You think it, they probably have it. This place has that nostalgic atmosphere and sweet aromas which make you feel so good just by being in the shop. You can't go wrong with chocolate anything and English toffee that'll stick to your teeth; these are the stuff that your friends dream of. And it's so much better than that Roman Bath magnet that's just gonna sit there and collect dust. Thank me later! ;-)

The shop assistants are welcoming and helpful, and extremely patient since they must spend their day waiting for people to make up their minds between the bon bons or the love hearts. All of the standard favorites: humbugs, sherbet dips, chocolate-covered everything, fruit-shaped everything...you get the idea. But imagine my absolute surprise when I spied a shelf stocked with American candy, cereals, and snacks...including my favorite: Cheetos. Not even 48 hour prior, I was telling my husband that I would go to obscene lengths to have a bag of Cheetos, so strong was my craving for the vile snack food. Little did I know that all I needed to do was go to Oxford and visit Hardy's. Sorted! Now excuse me while I go wash the orange from my fingers...

They have the traditional flavors like chocolate, raspberry, etc. When I tired the fudge in the store, it was soft but after taking it away (and storing in a container), it did dry out. Very sweet, as expected, with fudge!

We asked if we could try three of the fudge flavors ND with no hesitation the lady proceeded to give us samples. The three were equally as delicious and we just had to buy a slice of each. What a joy to find at the top of the High St in Winchester! A shop that sells all the old sweets…read morethat one thought had long disappeared. Buttered brazils, strawberry Fizz Wizzes, humbugs of various stripes, liquorice is all its awful guises (I hated it) including the packet of sherbert with a liquorice stick inside like a small firework. Those flying-saucer sherbets in different art-deco colours; aniseeed balls, pear drops, barley sugar, sarsparilla, sherbert lemons. A treasure trove. Interestingly, most are still made in Scotland and the North of England. It's a labour of love by the owner, Judith Burnett, to keep each jar stocked. How lucky we are that she does.

The staff here are lovely and prices are very reasonable for the quality of product. Worth a visit if you're passing by that way. Just don't tell you dentist.

However why not, the owner explained that it had been open since February and was very popular with people wanting a return to more traditional shops.The shelves were stocked with jars of every conceivable sweet including my favourite of sweet and sours. They also had a small selection of hand made nougat and speciality choclates very tempting!! I liked their novely range of choclate bars with labels to cover every type of occasion/person, daughter, son, teacher, thank you, cheer up etc. The shop also stocked helium balloons which I have always loved.
