Oops I did it again!…read more I love antique clocks (and antique/ vintage items in general) even though I dont have anywhere to put them all out in my house, but yesterday, I picked up this beautiful antique mahogany clock. I believe that it may be a Junghans German shelf clock. (Possibly a "Biedermeier style"?) clock with a dark reddish mahogany case and a beveled glass door. It has a wonderful deep toned strike on the hour and half hour. I found this gem at Second & Main and it's sister store Apparitions Vintage Village which is owned by an old high school friend Robin Sowers. This store has a little bit of everything from classis records, vintage items, and locally crafted items as well! Be sure and check them out!

I'm going back home to New York at the end of the month and was looking for something to bring back for my best friend. I ended up with two magnets and a box of matches. I try to bring as much local product as I can when I go home or send gifts for a variety of occasions. He told me that most candle producers (including Yankee) will fill the candle jar with unscented wax almost to the top, then let that settle and top the jar with the frangranced wax. I believe this because candles do tend to lose their potency. These guys use frangranced wax to fill the whole jar. They have quite a list to choose from and will deliver. I've given many as gifts and had requests to buy more when I travel to Kentucky. Some favorites are Kentucky Sunrise, Ale-8 Soda (Looking at your Reed N.), Daffodil Fields, Strawberry/Champagne and Graham Cracker. If you have a favorite from Yankee Candle, they can provide a better version. Just taking the lid off will smell up the whole room. ***After reviewing their website it seems they have been selling nationwide and I suppose that is why they have changed their candle names to be non KY related. The two companies have a partnership. Paint pottery there & fill candle here for $35.00. Sierra was only staff present. Only a couple and myself there. She greeted me as soon as I entered & got me started with the process. She balanced proving service with me & other guests very well. She provided clear instructions & eventually I had a one-on-one experience. She answered all of my questions about this new business. It's clear she's passionate about being there and enjoys what they offer. She confirmed that this business is owned by a black woman. I love supporting all women in business! I filled the two jars I came with and added another as a gift for my Mom. Pour process was very easy and mess-free. I like the variety of scents and candle jars available. I feel like there is really something for men & women. There space can accommodate moderately large size groups (up to 60 people). I definitely want to return during their self-care Sundays and get some body butter or other body item. I'm very pleased with my selections. I burned one candle already & it smells great & my living room space was filled perfectly with the scent I created in the air! I really appreciate that they keep good records of customer creations so that I can replenish when needed.

They do plant a lovely assortment of flowers: various types of lavender, wild flowers, zinnias, sunflowers (both very short and medium height-- not teller than you), and a couple others. Perhaps only one year they had pumpkins. There is not a ton on the grounds - there is a gorgeous gazebo and small shop. There are some benches outside of the shop, but I don't think this is a place you really plan to spend an extended period of time or picnic - it's more to indulge in the shop and see some beautiful flowers that you get to take home. It is a u-pick for $12. The owners are incredibly friendly! Their small shop is nice, smells delightful, and is clean. They have an assortment of goodies, mostly lavender themed: lavender shortbread cookies, lavender soaps, cute shaped soaps, body spray, honey, diffusers, essential oils, etc. Coming here for the "sunflower festival" I was a bit underwhelmed. The sunflowers weren't as tall or plentiful as I am used to seeing so I wasn't cascaded in sunflower rows where you can play hide and seek. I believe the taller sunflowers just had 2 rows. I was pleasantly surprised by the number of short sunflowers-- that was unique! Overall, I did expect to see more sunflowers at the sunflower festival. The website also advertised sunflower themed goodies and sunflower seeds, but there was none of that. There was a physic (I don't understand what this has to do with the theme), beer (hot day), snow cone, and 3 people selling handmade items (horse items, soaps, and jewelry). I was expecting more (sunflower themed) and some food vendors (there was a snow cone place). It just didn't feel very festivaly. It was a lovely time nonetheless and I left with gorgeous flowers (which surprisingly were not sunflowers).

This family owned lavender farm is just gorgeous, with bees and butterflies flitting around. They also just planted sunflowers and pumpkins that'll be ready later this year! Patty also said she hopes to start her own hive and make some lavender honey (which I wish they already had, but it'll be worth the wait!) I also told her about my failures with my own plant lavender and she was able to give me advice (I guess they don't like water haha). The boutique gift shop also smells unreal with amazingly priced items!! I was able to buy lavender shortbread cookies, 2 handmade lavender soaps, a lavender/vanilla body spray and a wooden soap holder all for $22! If you're in Lexington, please take a little drive out to see this adorable farm. P.S. I came back the same day to get another body spray! That's how good they are :)

Totally incompetent employees! I decided to stop into the Richmond Ollie's while my husband was…read moregetting a haircut nearby. I selected 2 coloring books and thought that I was going to be done in a few minutes because there were only a couple of people in line ahead of me. The elderly cashier kept having trouble with the register. I first thought that it was just a system issue, but the elderly cashier eventually blurted out that she had not been properly trained on the register and did not know how to use it. By that time, I had been in line for about 15 minutes. Instead of calling a supervisor for help, the elderly cashier kept fruitlessly pecking at the register trying to get it to work. My husband texted me to tell me that he was finished, so I put the coloring books on a display near the register and attempted to walk out. The elderly cashier saw me and threw a total tantrum about how I should put the coloring books back where I got them from. I told her that the situation was her fault, so an employee should put them back. I also told her that the last time that I stocked books at an Ollie's store was for a brief month of employment at an Ollie's store in the northeast over 20 years ago when I was trying to pay the bills before I got a much higher paying job at a bank call center, and I sure as heck was not going to do my old job for free. She still balked at me, but I then told her that I now have a master's degree and that the only way that I would put the books back was if the store paid me my current hourly wage of $30 an hour. I was so mad at her that I almost flipped her the bird as I walked out. Ollie's was bad 20 years ago, and it has gotten even worse as the company has expanded.
