The Peacecraft shop opened its doors in 1988 and declared its mission to be the following - "To promote peace through economic justice". This mission is carried out primarily by their status as a non-profit and fair-trade company, meaning that they operate chiefly with volunteers and source their retail items from [foreign] artists who receive fair wages for their crafts. Nearly all of the items in this shop are handmade using natural materials, with a wide array of clothing, chocolates, jewelry, and home decor to choose from. The prices of most items are reasonable, ranging from approximately $5-$40 (and with a 10% discount for Berea College students, I can afford the occasional purchase). With my internship program at my college here at Berea I was able to have the pleasure into both going to the store and meeting the business owner, Amy. She is a very nice women who cares about her customers and most importantly people in her community. My group had spoke to her regarding the buy local campaign and she was for it. It is amazing to see this especially how in today's economy many business owners do not seek to help the local citizens. Great person of character. As far as the items are concerned, there are many handcrafted jewelry designs that are attractive to any customer who walks in. I am definitely going to buy some jewelry for the amazing ladies in my life, my mother, sisters, and girlfriend in the near future. Great place to shop at. I was drawn to the large yellow lettering on the door's top. I saw a variety of unusual artifacts hanging on the shop's window as I drew nearer. So, I decided to go in. As soon as I walked into the store, I was greeted by two welcoming salespeople. This picturesque Gallery that's located on the College Square has a variety of beautiful crafts that are well worth a visit. If you are passing through town and looking for a souvenir or gift, this is the place to go because these unique and eccentric crafts offer something for everyone of any age. You will find baskets, musical instruments, toys and games, and home decor items. They also carry a wide variety of clothing and accessories. It's a 5/5 for me. Amy is an outstanding woman that cares considerably for her business and clients. Peacecraft is a nonprofit organization that sells fair trade goods such as coffee and clothing. The atmosphere is soothing and they sell items for everyone. If you are looking for a unique gift, come check out this shop. Peacecraft is a fair trade, non-profit store located in downtown Berea. Their inventory represents handmade crafts from over 30 countries. The worker was nice enough to explain what "fair trade" means to the store. The store showcases the work of artists who are assured fair profit for their work. This place really is a treasure! The crafts were extremely well priced and so cool! Most of the items gave some background about the origins of the product which was pretty neat as well. A true gem located in the heart of Berea. Honestly, I wish we could see more places like PeaceCraft around. The cute little shop offers ALL fair trade products, and the store itself is a nonprofit organization serving the countries whose products they carry. Personally, as a Berea resident it is always the go to place anytime I am purchasing a gift.
