A group of us discovered this lovely store today while walking around the courtyard after brunch. We were immediately greeted when we walked in. I was amazed by the variety inside and just the options for that perfect gift or something for yourself, too. They had clothing, mementos, cards, games, books, home decor, jewelry, gourmet foods, journals, and so much more. They have a lot of items with quotes that I love, including one with Jim Valvano's message. They even have a gift-wrapping section to wrap your purchase. Whether you're shopping for a birthday or just want to treat yourself, this local gem is a must-visit in the Village. I will definitely be back!

Do you not really cook and yet want guests to compliment your 'cooking' when entertaining?…read more Be like me, and come here to pick up only the best curated cheeseball and cracker mixes, popcorn and nut mixes, and cocktail mixers...because no one needs to know how easy it was on you. Also they sometimes sample out a mean rum punch, y'all, and I want the recipe. Meanwhile, you end up browsing the plethora of goods, from floor to high ceiling, and your teen thanks you for her new buttery soft socks and you come home looking fabulous in a faux fur poncho you never knew you needed. They even carry oil paintings from local artists, one of which is now a delightful addition to our holiday decor. I also noticed a nice university gear section - we just have to figure out what side we're on. Whether you're for Pack, Heels, or Devils, there is a particularly posh selection of college gifts here. I like their people too. They'll hold all your stuff for you when you came for one thing but keep browsing and picking up more. The owner is like that classy auntie who's more fun than you and knows where to get all the good stuff, so you don't have to. And they gift wrap! Bottom line: This store makes me happy. Go visit and sample the spicy crackers.

I like fragrance or more importantly, I know what I don't like so to be immersed in an experience with fragrance experts and not feel overwhelmed was a great time. We worked with Sacha who was very honest about our blends, gave good feedback, and was a good source of encouragement. You have the ability to create 3 different versions of your scent and choose what most feels like you. You can also save your scent for future use. I liked that added benefit. I am always curious as to how brands like these manage to keep their momentum as it sometimes feels like something you do once but I would definitely come again to create other products. They offer candles too as well as you can purchase premade scents. I feel like the price was very reasonable compared to other similar experiences. Definitely a must visit for a date night, girls night out, or just a relaxing end to a stressful day!

Bright black offers the perfume Workshop every Saturday from 11-5 - walk in only. We got there a little before noon, and we were able to get seated right away. The staff was super friendly and explained each part of the process. There were tons of scents to choose from to create your own perfume oil. It was $35 per person which I didn't think was bad at all! They also sell car air fresheners, lotions, and candles. Most of the fragrances of the candles have a story or meaning behind them which I thought was pretty neat! Apparently next month, they will be offering larger, alcohol based perfume workshop options. When you're done, you have the option to log your scent so that you can have it made again or even have it made into candles which is cool! I really enjoyed my visit to Bright Black and would definitely recommend visiting if in the Raleigh/Durham areas

I've had luck with finding some staple items here for fair prices. $30-50 for a nice blouse or casual dress. The reason the rating is so low is because of the manager who oversees the store. She isn't there every time I have gone in, and the experience is better without her. She seemed very standoffish and was short with me at checkout. Very unapproachable. HELLO, this is retail. On another note, the lighting in the fitting rooms is excruciatingly bad. I feel like I have gained 10 lbs every time I look in the mirror. It is very unflattering and often causes me to put the items I tried on back.
