We had just eaten lunch, but we couldn't resist going inside, sitting at the counter and ordering a root beer float. I've had root beer floats before, but I had only seen soda fountains like this in movies--and I had to look up what a flavored phosphate drink was. The two young women working behind the counter were friendly, although they seemed rather busy. It was a fun stop and a little step back in time the root-beer float wsa great!

At first, I was impressed--it was really good. Unfortunately, things went downhill about halfway through. I felt something hanging from my mouth and initially thought it was a strand of hot fudge. When I pulled it away, I realized it was actually a strand of hair. I looked for the girl who had made my banana split, but she was gone, so I got the attention of another employee and showed her the hair with ice cream still hanging from it. She looked disgusted and said, "Ewww!" She took the hair, washed the ice cream off it in the sink, and then came back and apologized. What surprised me was that she simply walked away afterward, leaving the rest of the banana split sitting in front of me as though I might continue eating it. After waiting a few minutes, I got up and spoke with a man behind the counter in the pharmacy section of the store and explained what had happened. He apologized, but he didn't offer to remake the banana split or refund the $7 I had paid for it. I could have made a scene or demanded my money back, but instead I just walked out. I was really disappointed because I had been looking forward to visiting an authentic vintage soda fountain, and the experience started out so well. In hindsight, I definitely should have asked for my money back.

I've even found a cute plant for sale now and then. They have a whole section on scrap booking stuff, pottery, jewelry. The only thing I really dislike is the older lady that works there. She is so sour and looks at you with a frown at all times, I'm not sure if she's the owner or a worker bee, but either way, she is not good for business. Maybe be a little friendlier to the people coming into your shop to spend their money? They had some really gorgeous finished pieces. I was particularly drawn to a fireplace they had created using multiple glass sculptures. I had never seen anything like it before. They also had some fruit pieces and owls that my husband was fond of. They have lots of ornaments, vases and paperweights as well. We so appreciate the uniqueness and the craftsmanship of each piece. This is an actual working glass studio, so after a while we were able to see a young woman working with some glass. We have seen this many times before but it's always fun to watch someone creating. It ended up getting a little too hot for us and we had to leave, but we learned a lot before we did. They take great pains to recycle all of the glass here and use it in so many creative and imaginative ways. They also offer make your own experiences where visitors can participate in creating glass art. If you're passing through, I definitely recommend a stop here. Even if you only have a little bit of time, it's worth a quick browse of the gallery and a great way to support local artists.
