You know my loyalty runs deep when I tell you one of the top 3 things most stressful to me about my recent move was having to find a new nail tech (or maybe that means my priorities are all messed up, take your pick). I have no idea why it took me so long to write the only Yelp review I've ever written that matters but, it's TIME. Kool Blue is MY nail spot. Kool Blue overall has good nail techs: thorough, efficient, affordable, hygienic. But Judy is my 1 and only nail lady. She's patient, proactive (fixes something on my nails without me even looking at them), checks in with you, works diligently, and is just the freaking best. She gets my nail shape RIGHT and is very meticulous about not getting paint on your cuticle (she insists since it'll make your polish lift). My gel would stay on for a month if I let it grow that long. She takes off your polish without too much force but does it quick! doesn't leave the acetone on for too long. She can do some simple designs and is generally willing to learn new ones (I've done gold flakes, thin thin French nail type lines, a little heart, sparkles). Only thing to mention: Judy primarily speaks Cantonese. My Cantonese is more Canto-English, but we managed! She can definitely work with English only speakers and there will be other nail techs nearby that do speak English to help if needed. But seriously, it's worth it, Judy is MY GIRL. Again. I moved to JERSEY and she's one of the things I miss most about Brooklyn. Like, that tells you a lot.

The space is quite nice, there's a decent amount of space and it was empty when I arrived for my appointment at 5:30 which was nice. I was immediately greeted and offered tea/coffee. Now for the service: My tech was honestly a godsend. Her work was incredibly precise, and if I had any questions about each step, she was happy to answer. Even though I was there for about an hour and a half, I feel like she worked relatively quickly for the quality of job she did. I ended up insanely happy with my nails. They are exactly what I was hoping for and the prep that she did will surely ensure that they'll last a while. Nina, the owner (I believe) is really sweet and both women were really humbly accepting my compliments. Nina said that they've opened recently and I do hope that they stay open for a long time. A "normal" Russian manicure is $90, but I ended up paying about $70, but that was because I tipped a decent amount and I had gel x on previously, which was removed for $15. This place is 50 min from my apartment and I'd gladly travel that far to come back. Don't walk, run to get your nails done here.

I absolutely adored my Russian mani and Russian (smart) pedi!! The attention to detail was certainly unmatched and my nails and toes were perfect. My feet were the softest they have ever been after a pedicure, and the device they used to shave the dead skin was so gentle that I was not uncomfortable or ticklish at all. The bathroom was also super cute, luxurious and most importantly, clean! There were just two big things that I was not totally satisfied with. I love French on my toes, but they didn't have the greatest selection of base or natural colors to complement my skin tone for the pedicure. The saloon has their own brand of gel, so the range was not there. I ended up with a color that was too light for my complexion, but it was the best option for me at the time. They do help you choose the colors you want, and have a great eye for color matching if you have a picture. I believe it was more about accessibility to the right colors. The second issue was my manicure and pedicure did not last as long as I would have liked. The pedicure started to peel from the cuticle after the first week. I have been getting gel, French pedicures for years and I've been able to make them stretch for at least 4 weeks, so I don't think it was an issue of my personal maintenance. My nails lasted about 2 weeks before they started to experience the same issue. I was so sad, because I truly loved my experience at this saloon, but for the price, I can't justify my services not lasting at least 3 weeks. I would still recommend this place just to try. This was a one time experience for me, and I would be willing to go back again, but I wanted to shop around other saloons first.
