Weird description but that's what I thought. It's very transparent and efficient, I suppose it the straightforward and boring way of describing it ;) I'm a fan. By the time I finished paying, my superstar name was being called and my salad was ready. I wasn't sure of the protocol, but went up to the guy with my receipt only to find him staring at me, clearly waiting for something. "Salt and pepper?" He asked. "No thank you," said I. "....." A bit of silence on his part. "What?" "No." I then received a confused look before he put his head down and mixed my salad. Points for the freshness, but it would be nice to see it a bit chopped. I had a full half avocado that was uncut and the other bits of avocado were massive. The tortilla chips were full sized, too, which means more bang for your buck (do they even have that phrase in the uk?) But also means my fingers in my salad to eat them. Also, considering he mixed my salad in front of me, it was remarkably unmixed and layered. One thing to note is that the chicken is chunks but the turkey is thin like deli slices. Points to the cashier for making sure I understood. I will say the price is right. I paid a little over £6 for a bottle of water and a medium salad - just the right size for me, but maybe not for those with healthier afternoon appetites.

I went in 2 different times: saturday at 3pm and wednesday at 10am. Two completely different vibes. I tried the famous sandwich from the black pig, viral chocolate covered strawberries and bread ahead. Black pig - the best one sandwich: it was AMAZING!!! I was a bit scared to get this since i was by myself but let me tell you, it was not heavy as i expected it to be. Just delicious overall and would totally recommend. Chocolate strawberries: I love strawberries and chocolate but definitely think you can find cheaper alternatives anywhere in london. Bread Ahead: my new favorite pastry place. I pretty much got a donut from this place (not this location) everyday because the black currant cheesecake donut was that good. I got the tiramisu and crème brûlée donut which my brother liked and i wish i could've tasted them before they went bad but anyways, I would totally recommend the donuts from here! Their chocolate chips cookies are HUGE and delicious as well. This was probably one of my favorite markets!

But enough about Whole Foods, I'm writing a review for Chop'd! I love salad bars...Why? Thank god for Chop'd and it being 5 minutes from work. Long lines but they go quick - the staff are great. We waited in line to order, and then saw the only place they have mini cannolis displayed, is behind the glass that faces towards the street. Also, the flavor signs only face out to the street, and they have a table in front of that glass. So you can't see the entire display or all of the flavor signs, and you can't point at everything you want. Further compounding the issue, they call different things, the same name in some cases. So a Salted Caramel could be one of at least two different things. I told the guy helping me that I was going to get a few mini cannoli. I would say "I want two salted caramels", pointing to a sign that said salted caramel. And then the guy would grab two from behind the salted caramel sign that I didn't want. They had cannolis with a sort of Florentine shell and a normal pastry shell. I told him I wanted only the Florentine shell kind. But he would grab the pastry shell kind. I would say he was grabbing the wrong thing, and he didn't change it. And occasionally he would grab something other than a cannoli altogether. We had a very difficult time trying to get what we wanted, and we didn't get everything we wanted. I don't live in the area, but I wouldn't return based on this experience, even though what I tried was good. They need to change their ordering system to make it more customer friendly. 3 Stars

I've tried at least three different sandwiches/paninis and they've all been disappointingly bland. I recently enjoyed a pulled pork panini (the Roma), so thought I might give this place three stars, but when I went this week, it had gross lumps of hard fat in it that were rather off-putting. On top of that, the queue is a bit of a joke. It's such a narrow place, so you can't see any of the menus or food displays until it's time to decide, so I end up feeling pressured into making a decision really quickly, probably to the detriment of my enjoyment.

I got a large crunch box and added goats cheese and chicken. For my dressing I chose the lemon pesto. I was shocked at how large it was. I mean the thing weighed like a kilo, and the portions of the premiums I chose were so generous. Nothing worse than when you pay like £4 to add chicken and they give you a paltry amount. This was the opposite. Now, quantity aside, I also found that the quality was superb. Everything was super tasty and the pesto dressing was delicious. My only recommendation is to be a bit more specific on what the "salads" are and what's in them for people with dietary restrictions but overall yeah, this place do a bang up lunch at a good price.

The wait is long during lunch hours as the line goes down the street...though that should be a good indication, yes ? The Salad Kitchen is in a funky little food community near Old Street with numerous places to sit, easy or to grab something from the food stalls. The Salad Kitchen has VERY limited options, both times I've been, it's only been chicken or eggplant in the salad. The cost was £5.40 - which is a very good price, I feel. There is only 2 tables, both with two chairs - so I think most people grab their salad and then head somewhere else - though I did get in (without having to pay extra) and it was fine. A great place for a great salad, for a great price on the run. I walked 20 minutes out of my way, and it was so worth it! :-)

If you have more specific dietary issues chains like this usually have a chart if you ask for it (but don't expect a long discourse to ensue especially if it's busy). They look to have more naturally GF stuff than try to offer GF bread and muffins and such. I prefer this since it's usually pretty terrible when a place has it for the sake of saying they do, versus a specialty place that really tries to make it taste great. I always get the scrambled eggs "super pot" (£3) and it's ok. As standard it includes peas and wilted spinach, but you can add salmon, goat cheese, avocado, sauteed mushrooms for varying extra cost. I like that it's a good carb-free protein + veggie option (which is hard to find in a fast food setting). However, the eggs are super watery - it must have to do with how they cook them (microwave?). I've found the smoothies to have better ingredients than most places that do them (kale, spinach, apple, almond milk) instead of being just full of milk and sugar. I've only had the Go Green and it was good (£2.25 for the small ... which is pretty small). Coffee is decent and the portion is large (though better coffee is to be found for same price in Borough Market!) And the decaf coffee is pretty good actually. Oh and they have free wi fi so if you need to post up before a meeting or work off site it's a good spot.
