Did you know that Rome has over 900 churches, which makes it the city w/ the largest number of Catholic worship sites in the world?!
With this high amount of churches, you're definitely going to stumble across many of these historic gems as you roam around Rome, which is how I came across the Basilica SS. Nomination e Alessio.
This church is dedicated to St. Boniface & St. Alexis (Sant' Alessio) & has a beautiful high altar dedicated to St. Alexis (see pics & video included in this review).
The altar has a statue of the dying saint surrounded by angels, under a wooden staircase that is believed to be the staircase that he died under.
This altar was so special to experience in person!
My pics & video really didn't do it justice.
Here are a few more helpful tidbits that I wanted to share from my visit on 10/01/2023:
- - - location:
This church is located on Aventine Hill, near The Aventine Keyhole, Basilica Santa Sabine, & The Orange Tree Garden
- - - this church was perfect for exploring away from the crowds & was not crowded at all during my visit
- - - free to visit but bring cash to give an offering to help give back to the church
Hope this info helps!
