We are visiting family in northern IL and stopped by to eat at the cafe. It is always harder in this area to find items similar to where we live in California. The food and beverages were delicious, and the prices were great too! I got a matcha tea and egg/sausage/vegan cheese sandwich. One of the best sandwiches I've had, the cheese and gluten free bread were so good!! My husband enjoyed his cookie and coffee, and my son enjoyed his cookie, hot dog, and chips. We also loved that there was a cute little kid play area, which kept my son entertained and busy for quite some time. We look forward to visiting again when we are back in the area! read more

Crunchy and filling, but not too crunchy. Both varieties (hummus, spinach artichoke) were basic, but delicious. The coffee that went with them hit the spot as well. Staff at the cafe (and throughout the co-op) were super friendly. I would return in a heartbeat, except that I'm roughly 58328 heartbeats away and then I'd probably be all out of breath and smell horrible from all the sweating. The food to order for lunch (or may time) is wonderful! Tasty, fresh, and lots of options. I am so thankful they have vegan cheese as an option. I get massive canker sores from cow cheese, so this is a fun add on. Their smoothies are fresh and delicious! Stopped by on a roadtrip, and we're so glad that we did because their chipotle chicken panini ($6.49) and coffee with ghee, caramel, and butterscotch ($4.75) exceeded our expectations. One of the best paninis I've ever had, such a smooth coffee, hit the spot, especially when paired with their freshly-baked snickerdoodle. Top notch service and products every time. Lucy's goal is for everyone to leave with a smile, and I know I always have! There are so many options to customize your coffee. Almond milk? They have it. Coconut milk too! Many sugar free syrup options, and fun names for specialty coffees. My favorite is the snapping turtle with chocolate, hazelnut, and caramel. Loon Lake also offers food choices to meet most dietary concerns/allergies - vegan, gluten free, dairy free, etc. Don't worry if you prefer your baked goods like Grandma makes them - full of gluten, butter, and all the good stuff, they have that too. My pumpkin crumble muffin yesterday was moist and delicious. I love the salads, quiche, and soups in the deli case too - from traditional chicken noodle soup and Mac-a-Loony salad to more interesting options like the African queen quinoa salad, there's usually something for every palate. Bottom line, if you haven't tried it, you should! It's worth getting out of your car for the short walk to the back of the Basics store! read more

Couldn't find it. It's inside a coop, off the main road and has no sign. There is NO other coffee shop on this stretch of strip malls on this exit from the freeway. What a wasted opportunity for them. With a different location or better signage they could clean up from the coffee-needy exiting the freeway. As it is we have to go to the next exit for a Starbucks! As noted by other reviewers, it's a little tough to fund - look for the Basics Cooperative, and you'll find Lucy's inside. We popped off the highway for a quick coffee stop and were so glad we found Lucy. Good coffee and incredibly friendly service - she sent us off with a free "Seeds the Day" cookie, which is apparently a local favorite. More like a meal than a cookie, full of great stuff. Delicious. Definitely worth the hunt. read more
