We had our wedding here on 09/29/19 and we had an amazing time! The venue was gorgeous, the staff was friendly, the coordinator, Katrina, was fantastic, kind and super helpful- everything ran so smoothly and I was so thankful to have her there, guiding us all along. You get a great deal when you book your wedding here; the cost was very affordable! The venue came with a day of coordinator, a place for the whole wedding party to get ready in, white resin chairs, table linens, napkins in the color of your choice, all of the silverware, plates and glasses, they gave us golf carts to use to drive back and forth between the venue and the house where you get ready so we didn't have to walk so far each time, AND they even set up all the chairs and tables for the ceremony/ reception and clean them up when all is said and done. The only (maybe) downside to some is that you have to use the caterers they provide- we, however, loved the food and I felt that it was even easier to not have to go out and search for a separate vendor! We did a brunch style wedding where the meal consisted of eggs, bacon, sausage, breakfast potatoes, French toast, coffee, and bottomless mimosas and it was delicious! I really wish I could give a negative Star they advertise NFL package absolutely no football games on Sunday went there for brunch no football games waitress bartender did not know how to operate the TV what a joke!!! Here's a word of advice have a manager there or somebody that has brains enough to figure out your TV and take your sign off of the freeway about NFL ticket and NFL package when I walked in there, there was absolutely no football on your TV walked out I don't give a damn about your food all I want is football on Sunday.. Came to Sacramento from out of town for guys weekend. Needed to rent clubs for 4 people. Desk employee was curt at best when checking us in. Staff yells to back room hey they need clubs. Charge is $15 per "set" rented. We get carts drive to pick up clubs. Next staff member apologizes about rental clubs. The clubs are rag tag, beat up, dented, torn grips, mismatched. Look like clubs people left on course after beating them on cement. With 4 "sets" of clubs there was not a single full set that could be made of the mismatches. There were 4 males playing and there were women's clubs in the mix. The course was in decent shape. Not crowded. Starter was friendly. No cart person making rounds. We play. Making the best of what we had. After the round we go to the desk person, telling him the clubs were horrible, and suggest that the club spend a few bucks to get a few decent complete sets. His reply "yeah right, that's why we only charge $15. " As far as he was concerned that was it. We walk towards the bar the gentleman who distributed the clubs told us we should ask for refund because the clubs were terrible. As one of our party went walking back towards the desk the staff walks to us and says you know let me buy you a round of beer. So he gets the bar manager to put on bar account 1 pitcher of beer and 2 sodas to defray our $60 in rental fees. The bar staff was friendly cheerful and attentive. We are ready to leave and realize we left car keys in a cart. We stop at desk a new staff working and let him know we forgot something. He checks drawer states " I don't have nothing here. The cart person is gone now but you can go down and look. " One would think in this situation staff would look what cart we had and call someone to go look. But we go to the cart storage garage, and search until we locate cart and keys. Yes forgetting keys was our fault but customer service in general not good. Golf was fun. Customer service at desk was terrible. We cannot recommend this course. read more

.I have golfed at Bartley Cavanaugh golf course a couple of times. It was not one of my favorite golf courses and was not very memorable. The first time I ate breakfast afterward and the second time I had lunch. It has been awhile but I remember not being very impressed by either meal. They also were not very memorable. I have been there for Christmas banquets a couple of times in the past and was not impressed with the food but it was not bad either. It really just wasn't very memorable. However, I recently attended another Christmas banquet at Bartley Cavanaugh and this time the food was unfortunately quite memorable. Here is their award winning recipe on how to completely ruin a spinach salad: Open package and pour large tough spinach leaves in bowl. Open package and pour pre sliced apples onto spinach. Open package of walnuts and pour over spinach. Open package of dried cranberries and pour over spinach. Lightly mix so walnuts and cranberries fall to bottom and serve. Offer a choice of two of the worst salad dressings in history on the side. Add in some extremely fatty low quality turkey that can best be described as vulgar and some of the world's most boring roasted potatoes and you have created a horrendously memorable dinner. I have been to banquets with some foul tasting food before but none as bad as what I experienced at the Bartley Cavanaugh golf course. If you are reading this review because you are planning on attending a banquet at this place, I most humbly apologize if my description of the food has scared you. I meant it to terrify you! The food was the type of thing that nightmares are made of. You might want to eat before you go. The food will be memorable. I guaranty it. read more

Freinds and I played 18 holes today 12/17/18 if wasn't very busy. So that in itself is always a plus. This was my first time playing at Bartley. The staff is nice. Everybody is pretty laid back. The club house is orderly and clean. The bar staff is friendly. The course is maintained well after the recent rains there was standing water. But no tire ruts and mud. It's a good thing that the carts have to stay on the path. This course is a well designed course. Youll have alot of fun. I'm giving it five stars for 2 reasons 1. The golf course manager. He wanted us to have a good time suggested we start on the 10th hole so we didn't have to wait behind players in front of us. And 2. The bar tender/waitress was nice in poring our drinks and brought out some house made salsa for my quesadilla. Also when your on the golf course and you look back at the club house. It stand above the golf course so as you approach the nine hole or the18th its, to me. Very welcoming. I'd play there again most definitely. Thank you Bartley for a great day of golf. :) read more

So i went here yesterday to play golf with my Dad, and it's not bad. We paid $46 with a cart each, which isn't a great deal, but for a Saturday morning tee time, it's acceptable. It's located between the Sacramento River & Highway 5 just past the small town on Freeport. Everything looked nice, the clubhouse, the fairways and the greens. This part of the county is naturally flat so they added a lot man made hills to make it challenging. They also boarder some really tight fairways with some big trees, and that's challenging too. The greens were fast and not the simplest. They put a lot of work into building in some challenges. The only downside i could see is that the back side of the course is right next to the freeway. I like to play golf for the peace and quiet (when no one is swearing) and I could see that on a hot summer day, that part of the course could be a little bothersome. Still we had fun. read more

This place could be amazing, but it needs some work! Other than the course being narrow, the layout is awesome, and is well taken care of. It's like being in the south. It's a little hard to get to, and seems like the forgotten stepchild of Capitol City/ Morton golf, although this is by far the coolest course they manage. Once you start playing its pretty good, but The place needs a little love. Paint the club house get rid of the feral cats that welcome you. By far the worst part of this place is the warm up area. If I didn't know better I would think the warm up area is a joke! If you gave me an afternoon and $400 I could do better in my backyard. They don't have room for a range so that's out, but their cage to warm up in is pretty sad. The net on the cage is all but worthless. The first four balls I hit went right through and into the farm field next door. The mat has been bad for years and the balls in the cage are garbage, they literally leave black marks on your clubs since the covers are worn and the ink is exposed from weathering. . I use some of my own and suggest you do the same. The chipping green is a dead weed patch that gets mowed with a flag stick in the middle. The putting green is however... excellent. This is a pretty nice place that with some care could be excellent. But, they're not even trying in the warm up area. read more

Since Elk Grove literally has nothing scenic in terms of restaurants it's nice to sit outside and not be sitting in a strip mall. The server continued harassing us and still nothing done but we continued with our service to the bride and groom because that is what we are there for. But calling and writing to the owner to make sure he knows what kind of service his coordinator and staff is giving. SPO right now..smh..just letting people know that double think about having your wedding or any function here...because you're guest may run into the same problem and not being cared for in a professional way. Never recommending this site to my clients again. ............................... My comments on Martin G's panning of Bartley Cavanaugh as a wedding venue. First of all, I would like to know if Martin actually spoke to the manager on site to correct his perceived bad treatment by the staff and actually attempt to correct the mis-understanding. If he did not, then this review is totally inappropriate and unprofessional. Moreover, 'things' happen at any event and it is incumbent for all parties involved to amicably resolve the problem and proceed with the day. Based on the tone of the review, I suspect Martin G did not do this. Secondly, I have worked at that venue at least 30 times over the years and have NEVER had anything happen that came anywhere close to what Martin has described. Particularly Rebecca - whom Martin has chosen to particularly brand as unprofessional - she has been nothing but professional in my dealings with her. She genuinely cares about her clients experience at the venues she supports to the point where she recommends vendors that will ensure the day goes as close to perfect as possible; thereby minimizing 'situations' that inevitably arise when planning any event. You could not ask for better wedding planning at a venue than what you WILL get from Rebecca and her staff. Please consider the disgruntled nature of Martin G's review and talk to Rebecca first before ruling out having your big day at Barley and the other venues under that umbrella. Before considering this course I strongly suggest you consider the following based on the diminishing quality, upkeep and safety of this course: 1) There course plays VERY slow because there are hardly a marshal present to enforce the pace of play. If there is a marshal present, they are just driving the course and looking for balls 2) As a result of the marshals and management NOT enforcing the pace of play, count on a 5-6 hour round. I have witnessed fights almost breakout due to pace of play not being enforced, once where a gun was pulled on another golfer due to slow play 3) The course is poorly maintained (i.e. overgrown grass, hard-pan, burned greens, uncut and rolled greens, strong stinch of geese urine and feces). Due to the over-grown ruff, it results in slower than normal play because golfers spend more time than usual trying locate lost balls in the long rough just off the fairway. If the grass were cut more often it would help with the slow play. What's unfortunate about the all this is that the course still insist upon charging green fees comparable to some of the good courses within Sacramento. When the management was approached about these problems, nothing is ever done. In an ailing economy, consumers should be more conscious of where they spend their dollars. Any organization NOT willing to maintain a competitive and sufficient quality level of their business should not not be patronized. So, urge anyone considering burning their gas to call to question management about the above listed problems before considering playing the course. read more

Kudos to the superintendent and the grounds crew. The course was gone over tee to green. While playing I observed the grounds crew hard at work and the effort is well placed. We teed off in front of a tournament and behind several groups in front of us. Never was there a wait at a tee box and it was a 4.25 hour round. I left this review on golfadvisor.com but this place is so bad that I had to spread the news... This was my first time playing Bartley Cavanaugh. I'm playing in a tournament there in a few months and thought it might be good to test out the course first. I was warned that the layout is more of a "links" style so I was prepared for some uneven lies before I arrived. What I wasn't prepared for was the very high green fees, terrible tee boxes, poorly maintained facilities, and crowded layout. I play several times a month and usually don't have a problem paying between $20-$30 but almost $50 for this quality of a course was shocking. The tee boxes were very patchy and not even at all. No matter where we stood to hit our tee shot, the ball was going to be below or above our feet. The bathrooms in the center of the course were rusty and poorly labeled. The cart paths are more bumpy than driving on the grass. Make sure to show up ready to play because there isn't a driving range to get warmed up on. The layout of the course was so closely intertwined that it felt like people were constantly hitting sharing a tee box, fairway or green. The only positive from this course is that the greens were in great condition. They were extremely fast but rolled really well. read more

This facility is great. The clubhouse bar and cafe are very clean and the staff is very friendly. The price to play eighteen holes with a cart is pretty fair when there is a special going on. The course is very well kept and and fun to play. If you keep the ball in the fairway you will find a lot of success there since the course is pretty straight. I have a problem keeping it on the fairway, so the course can be difficult at times for me. Today was a a little on the warm side out there, but all the water jugs at the holes were filled in very cold. The pace was descent except my friend and I got stuck behind a foursome that was walking, so that slowed us down a little. The overall experience was great. read more

It's truly a shame how run down this course has become. The fairways are in terrible shape, dry patches everywhere. Even worse is the condition of the bathrooms attached to the (shuttered) snack bar out on the course. The doors are rusted out and the soap dispenser sits broken on the floor. We held a wedding here this past September. The venue was cost efficient with a lovely view. Food was what you would expect for a buffet. All in all the venue gets a 4 as far as rating for quality... but I'm going to give a 5 star review for the coordinator Katrina is the main reason for this positive review. I enjoy time spent at Bartley although I don't play there often. I definitely see how others may view this as a 2-3 star facility but I enjoy it. It designed by a relative of Pete Dye-hence Perry "Dye Design"- that is similar to the now defunct Cypress GC in Southern Calif. Has some Dye characteristics-railroad ties, & a short island green. Conditioning is what you expect of a city owned course. The course was built on a small parcel of land so it can feel tight and close to other holes-people who spray the ball tend to hate it. Although there are some short holes there are a couple of holes that are good tests-9 or 10, and #18 are decent holes. If you are walking the routing can seem a bit awkward. But it's not too expensive. Not a destination course but if you are in the area and if you can play for the right price it's not bad to play once in awhile. read more

Just had the worst experience at Bartley Cavanaugh yesterday, feb 3rd. I give the dates because I didn't get any names of the employees working that day. My friend and I came to golf here, and when we arrived there were golfers everywhere waiting for teetimes and there appeared to be lot of confusion. When we walked into the pro shop there were a few employees behind the counter. We talked to who I assumed was the head pro. He was a little older than the rest of the guy's behind the counter, he was very excitable/stressed told us in a panicked demeanor that they are out of golf carts and he doesn't know when he'll have any back in and do we have a tee time? To which we replied yes we do. He said to us since your t time is 45 minutes away come back when it gets closer which we did. When we came back 15 min before our tee time this man tells us, your 7 th down on our list and I still can't guarantee you a cart, to which I replied, should we have just signed up when we were in 45 minutes ago? He says no we are going by tee times. I looked at him knowing that we wouldn't be on the course for another hour at best and I calmly told him please go ahead and cancel our tee time. He said OK but seemed almost put out by us, not sure if it was because we were female or what exactly his problem was. I looked at my friend and said you go ahead and wait outside I'm going to look around the pro shop and I'll be out in a minute. While she was waiting outside for me, one of the employees that was in the pro shop came outside and said to a group of waiting customers," two girls were in the pro shop canceled their tee times and stormed out". This employee did not realize my friend was standing outside and could hear the whole thing. She turned around and replied to the employee , "we did not storm out and one of us is still in the pro shop, but yes we did cancel our tee time". He said nothing and walked away embarrassed I'm assuming. The man that I talked to behind the counter had a very different attitude towards the male patrons than he did towards us, just an observation. I have worked at several golf courses myself and this what a Tee sheet is designed for, to avoid situations like this. Bartley Cavanaugh Golf Course was all around bad experience. Thank goodness we went over to Bing Maloney GC they have the most wonderful employees. They were very nice and welcoming and after hearing of our horrible experience provided us with complementary drinks and snacks before teeing off. I absolutely LOVE this course. (Although I may be biased because this was the first 18 holes I played ever in my life!) For a beginner to moderate golfer this place is great. I usually go on Saturdays. Bartley's twilight begins at 3:00pm and for $21 you can play 18 holes including cart. The clubhouse is one of the nicer ones. My favorite thing - happy hour Monday through Saturday 2-6pm w/$2 domestic drafts & $9 pitchers. read more

Just played it. Don't rely on old negative reviews, the course was in good shape and pretty entertaining for a in-city course. Greens were medium fast, in good condition, and a few were tricky to read. Played on a Sunday, not crowded and great pace of play. There is a 90 yard island-type green that is fun. Some holes are tight but not as tight as other city courses I have played. Good prices for pitchers of beer and good fries/onion rings in the Clubhouse. For 20-25 dollars a round it's a good course. Especially if you're a walker. The cart fee is steep. The course has some great greens, which makes up for some poor tee boxes and under-maintained everything else. i should say though that the new management group is doing a much better job than the previous one. If they keep it up, i could see this eventually being a small gem for the Sacramento area. read more

I'm a would be golfer and when I do play, I usually play here. It's a good course to play on. Yes, the pace of play is pretty fast, except when they seldom over book or if they have a tournament. However, if you ask, you can always book a tee time before the tourney. I do agree that the 17th hole is a bit difficult, but fun. read more

I had the pleasure of having my wedding at this location and I must say they are AMAZING! I had to change my location two weeks before my wedding and they found the time to squeeze me into there schedule. Dylan the GM was soo nice and accommodating of everything I asked for and they made my experience so comfortable and stress free. I wish I would have found them first but they did not disappoint at all. The ceremony and reception were awesome and the food was great. If you are looking for a great location to host your wedding they are the place to go and for reasonable pricing. Moderately priced, not too far from Midtown Sac, not too busy. The only thing I dont like is the ridiculously expensive cart prices, like $22 last I checked. We hoof it every time because of this. The fairway is narrow on a few holes, so make sure you pull out your iron or know how to hit straight with your driver before showing up here. read more

Lakeside At Bartley Cavanaugh Wedding Venue is Awesome. I was married there back in July and it was perfect for our Wedding. Rebecca was awesome to work with and the entire team was so flexible. My wife was able to get ready in the Amazing historic house tucked away next to the gazebos and afterwards we were able to take some fantastic photos there as well across the street on the freeport bridge. The food was fantastic and the planning and service was remarkable. I would recommend to anyone who has about 50 to 120 guests. Thank You read more

I go to Breakfast with 1 or 2 friends weekly and go all over SacTown looking for the best for what is offered. Today we went to Bartley Cavanaugh (A city owned golf course and restaurant). The food was inexpensive and about what you would expect for a snack bar. Except for the walnut banana pancakes, which were better then good. I am thinking Bartley Cavanaugh would be better for lunch then breakfast. As far as a group spot, the place can do it but if you wanted it fancy you would have to do your own decorating. The mimosa was above average but higher priced then most. In all I felt the best part was the golfers. They told jokes including everyone in the place. Like most places where people know each other, they were all trying to out do each others story. Food I would give 2 stars but for all over comfort and ease I am giving 3. This course and the others in the City of Sacramento have started what they call dynamic pricing. It is just another way to raise rates and not be accountable. There are no longer published rates to compare to. There is also no one within the course, Morton Golf, or the City of Sacramento to talk to or complain to. I have played BC 3 times in the last month, each time on a midweek day around noon, every time the course almost empty. And every time I have been charged a different rate. $24, $23 and $27 to walk with a senior discount card. Last year I paid $21 EVERY time out. Dynamic pricing is a scam, and I won't be playing at the Sacramento courses any longer. read more

I had my reception here May 2015. I coordinated with Rebecca who was the event coordinator at the location. She was absolutely amazing in picturing what I wanted! We instantly fell in love with the place when we were looking for venues. They were within our budget and worked with us and let us personalize everything. This venue is perfect for someone who wants a smaller (around 100) party and inviting atmosphere. The patio is so pretty overlooking the golf course. It all came together so gorgeous and Rebecca and her team did an amazing job with everything! They are really good about staying in contacting and working with you to get you what you want.
