I contacted Bartlett Tree Experts to get a quote on taking down a very large maple tree damaged in a recent storm. I got an appointment that was weeks in the future but I understood that as there was wide-spread damage inflicted by the storm. Rick came out and looked at the issue, gave me a competitive quote and said he would send out a proposal. I waited over a month - still no proposal. I called the office and checked to ensure that the email address they has was valid - it was - month later - still no proposal. If you don't want to do the job - just tell me. Don't waste my valuable time - that is unprofessional and disrespectful. read more

We needed to have ten trees removed from our yard. We've been using the same tree service for over thirty years, but when the owner looked at our situation he immediately told us he didn't have the specialized equipment needed for our situation (sloping and muddy). He called a friend at Bartlett and they came out right away. They did have the special equipment (a spider lift), which is apparently hard to come by. Because there was a waiting list for the spider lift, and we were in a time crunch, they sent out a double crew and got the job done a day faster than expected. We were very happy with their service. They followed up with a call to check our satisfaction with the job. read more

I created on account on Yelp just so I can give this company a bad review. I called Bartlett to have them look at a flowering cherry tree that has scale. They gave me an appt one month out. An employee came out and looked at the tree and said he would send me an estimate via email. I never received an email (or maybe I deleted it erroneously). I called the company and a secretary said she would pass on my message and they would definitely call me back. After not hearing from them for 2 weeks, I called again. The secretary assured they would call me back. That was 3 weeks ago. I have since called a different company. This is very unprofessional - No one has the time and energy to keep chasing down a company for service! Not recommended! read more

I have used Bartlett many times over the past 30 or so years and have always found them to be highly reliable and proficient. Most recently, they did some high tree pruning near my driveway, and it was an exceptional experience. When they finished, I was invited to review the work which I did and found satisfactory. After they left, however, I wished I had asked them to cut back further. Emailing this to the arborist, Rick Daniels, I asked them to come back and told him I was willing to pay extra since I had signed off on the original work. They came back with all their heavy equipment and did more pruning as I requested but with NO additional charge. A remarkable instance of standing behind their work! read more

My wife called five different companies to receive quotes on having our hemlocks shortened. A Bartlett sales rep (Mike) came out and met with her and she thought he did a good presentation. She explained what we wanted and he was very agreeable - he even used a laser pointer to show where the approximate new height was going to be plus suggested a pesticide application for the hemlocks. In their proposal they said they would cut down 8-10' of height. Well, what was removed was nowhere near that. If you look at before and after pictures really all that was done is the odd taller hemlock was shortened to match the bulk of what height was already there. In no way, shape or form could they have removed 8-10' of actual height which was the entire purpose of this endeavor. My wife contacted the rep and to their credit he did come out again. However, essentially all he said was that he thought the "outcome looks great." Had we known they would be unwilling or unable to accomplish what we wanted we never would have used their services to begin with. Bartlett was not cheapest option but also not most expensive option either. My impression is they are more sales focused that customer satisfaction focused and I suggest anyone out there looking for this type of work done to look elsewhere first. It was a $1400 mistake on our part and maybe by reading this you can avoid the dissatisfaction we encountered. read more

Josh Lehmann is great! He's very knowledgeable and offers excellent input and advice on the proper care of your trees and shrubs. The team recently performed a small job trimming the evergreen hedge on the property line between my house and my neighbors. They did a very nice job and were courteous, taking the time to talk with me and my neighbor about what was being done and how we might take additional steps in the future to bring the overall height of the hedge down to a more manageable level. Their pricing is a bit on the high side - especially for smaller jobs due to the minimum charge for bringing a crew on site. However, they are definitely expert arborists! I would highly recommend! read more

We have a mammoth 200+ year-old Hemlock tree with a split at the crotch that needed emergency repair. The crew was scheduled to do the job almost immediately after the initial consult. While it saved us a bit of money, it turned out that one brace support and cable wasn't sufficient, as we were still nervous whenever the wind blew. The creaking was kind of scary! We called Rick, the rep, and he came out to take a second look. We worked together and agreed on a fair price to add an additional two rods to secure the torn area. While it took the crew a little while to come back to finish the job (much of this was due to inclement weather), once the work was completed, we were really pleased. The crack in the middle that was once alarmingly apparent is now almost seamlessly non-existent. Super nice crew with agile men willing to risk their lives in order to save the life of our beautiful old tree! read more
