He has gone out of his way in the past when he came to service our plants. Bartlett has always been great to deal with over the years we have used them. They have treated our trees and plants as well as trimming and removing trees. They also moved a tree for us that was in the way of construction and it has thrived in its new location. Bartlett Tree Experts have provided us with truly great (expert) service on multiple occasions. Arborist Derek Furry knows his stuff well as he assessed the trees and plants in our yard. Most recently, at a house we just bought in Smithsburg MD, we needed a badly damaged large Norway Maple removed that towered over our house and garage; it had suffered fire damage years ago and was recently struck by lightning. We also needed density reduction and disease treatment for other distressed trees. Terrible quality work. I would not recommend them to anyone. They did the work while I was not there. They charged me for services which I did not authorize or want. 340$ extra for "feeding the trees". 1. Bartlett Tree Experts charged me $340 for work I never ordered and did not authorize. 2.Killed several or my plants. including a 22-year-old climbing hydrangea by spraying so much pest chemicals on trees that the spray fell on my plants and killed them. My plants that were not covered in the spray thrived. 4. The regional manager sneered at me and said the dead plants died because I did not water them sufficiently. Only the plants directly under the sprayed trees were dead or dying. 5. Bartlett workers laughing at me when I came out to tell them to stop shredding the tree limbs I wanted for firewood; they shredded all the limbs. They later brought me about 1/4 of the wood that would have been from the limbs. 6. Trimming two trees so badly that bare half limbs just stuck out. 7. Selling me a very expensive system that was supposed to keep neighbor's bamboo from my yard. The bamboo is still invading my yard. Avoid this service. They're neither good nor professional. read more

Having a few oak trees that started looking sick, I contacted Bartlett Tree Experts and arborist Ryan Cuccia sampled the tree and identified measures to combat pests and nourishment. Ryan also identified other areas of concern including severe overgrowth of kudzu. Ryan developer a treatment plan, offered several affordable options and also revisited the trees to ensure the work was satisfactory. He continued to call and keep me abreast to all areas of options and the final desired outcome. Thus Ryan's team performed strenuous work in cutting down massive piles of brush and at least 8 dead trees (killed by the kudzu). Bartley's mulched you all the debris and their work was top notch! I will be using Bartlett again in the future, especially this spring, and highly recommend the company, including Ryan as your tree and landscape expert. And this company actually shows up and follows up to give you quotes as opposed to the various other heavily advertised companies I've attempted to use in the Calvert County/Southern Maryland area. Best of all, was a pleasure working with Ryan and Bartlett's pricing was comparable and better than two companies that actually showed up for price quotes. Bartlett has a strong reputation of being good at what they do. As such, my wife and I sought them out for a quote in removing two large dead trees in our front yard. We contacted 3 companies in total, 2 of which were immediately responsive and were out to provide input within 24 hours. Barlett scheduled an appt for the earliest available which happened to be a week out. We waited a week and I cleared my morning of meetings to be available. 5 min before they were supposed to show I received a call saying they were heading to another customer instead. They asked if it was ok to be 30 min late, I replied that was fine but it couldn't be more than that as I had meetings scheduled. Then, to put a cherry on top, they outright never showed. Update: Since Bartlett was kind enough to take the time to respond and apologize. I believe it's worth noting that things happen and not every company is perfect. That said, I also believe that when you drop the ball, you own it and move on. Bartlett elected to suggest that they made it out to my property. Unfortunately for them, we happen to live at the very end of a dead end street with a full property camera system. I can say that UPS was here today as well as Whole Foods delivery as I can see them in my video. Bartlett however was never here. read more

We've been using Bartlett Tree Experts for several years for regular tree care. We have a row of cherry trees along the street sides of our corner lot. Cherries do have limited lives and can be a little high maintenance. Ours had borers and a virus. Bartlettt gave us an estimate for remediation and annual (biannual? I forget) service. They scheduled us promptly after we selected them from several bids. Since then, when they come to spray, they always knock on the door to let us know they are there and remind us of what they will do. They clean up after themselves including limb drop and frankly do some cleaning up after us. *grin* They mark the property for chemical applications. One tree in the middle of the yard (a pink cherry as opposed to the white cherries along the street) was in bad shape. Bartlett told us its days were numbered. They did their best and we got two more years of beautiful blooms before the knock on the door that this year was the year. We had plenty of time to consider our options. Bartlett removed the rapidly declining tree and ground out the stump before putting in the dogwood we requested. They also moved the bed line in to balance the much smaller tree. Our cherry trees look great and the new dogwood is filling in nicely. They've done a few odds and ends for us (storm damage and such, some pre-emptive limbing). We've been very happy with their services. I don't give out five star reviews very often. It's like pulling teeth. Bartlett Tree Experts deserve the recognition. read more

I transplanted to large oak trees at my driveway entrance and the root ball where a little too small. Bartlett has been careing for trees with root injections, fertilizations, etc keeping my investment in these specimen trees going. There are professional, courteous, and competitive in there work. When I had some issues with bag worms on other trees right before a vacation Bartlett was there with a call to help fix the problem. i have also used them to take down trees, prune, etc any everyone was pleased with the service. read more

Hired them to do some minor work. They never let me know when the work was scheduled or called the day they were coming yet they charged me but they only work I noticed they did was minor. When I notified them I wasn't happy or satisfied because the work they charged for wasn't done. They told me they would be happy to rewrite a new contract and charge me according, but as a professional curioristy they would stop by my property when they are in the area again to retrim branches (which they didn't trim in December when they claimed the work was done). I asked for proof they actually did any of the work, and asked for the date time they came by but yet they didn't have any record, but I was charge. What's more, they wrote a new contact then charge me for a growth treatment in April. When I asked for proof they came by my property to do the treatment and what time they stopped by, they gave me a bogus date. Would bit recommend them. read more

After waiting a month for Brock to remove a tree so we could begin a fence/landscaping project, we gave up and hired another company that took care of it 24 hours after we called. With a sick red oak, a cherry shading my neighbors roof, a black jack scraping our roof, and three dead bushes, we were in dire need of some work. Requested quotes from several companies and Bartlett immediately responded and were 1ST in getting us a quote and providing a certified arborist to tend to the sickened oak. Work scheduled and completed less than two weeks after estimate. This also included treatment to the trunk of the red oak. Workers were uniformed, professional and wore all the proper personal protection equipment. Crew was large enough to have safety paramount. The last thing you want is to have someone hurt in this dangerous profession. Very pleased with the outcome, it's up to the tree gods if the red oak responds to treatment and recovery. We didn't end up using Bartlett, however I am very happy with their customer service and will consider them in the future. Bartlett made it very easy and quick to get someone out, as they have arborists who work in specific territories around the metro area. When Mike came out, he was very upfront and honest about how challenging our very dead tree would be to get out given access to its location and its fragility. He presented a couple of possible options that he felt comfortable with, and also recommended another company that might also be able to do the work at a more affordable cost and with a higher tolerance for risk. He was also very responsive to follow up after coming out and in the process of determining whether Ultimately we ended up hiring the other company to do the work, but I was very impressed with Bartlett's approach and honesty. Great company! We needed emergency service after a wind gust snapped a tall Virginia pine in our backyard. Called Denise at Bartlett, who was very personable and quick in contacting their arborist, Geoff. He was at the front door in 30 minutes. He evaluated the situation, gave a quote, and the crew was there 15 minutes later. The team was efficient and well managed, and even blew pine needles off our kids' trampoline during cleanup. They offered a free consultation the next day to evaluate the rest of our trees. Fantastic service and I would definitely recommend this company to our friends, neighbors, and fellow Yelpsters. Bartlett Tree Experts just removed a large holly tree a tight space in our property and I could not have been happier with the work they did. Their estimate service was prompt and thorough and they worked with my schedule. Other companies saw the tree and either stopped responding to my calls or padded the quote to discourage the business but Bartlett didn't shy away from the job. When they came out, the men were quick, professional, and friendly. I cannot overstate how pleased I was with their clean up either. We had requested that clean up be added to our bill and we certainly got our money's worth. I didn't see a single tiny branch from the tree anywhere on the property. This tree was such a nuisance that I was convinced removing it was going to be a headache but it was so painless and I am ECSTATIC. Great job!!! read more

After last year's derecho storm, I noticed that the leaves on several branches of a large oak in front of my home were wilting. Not a good sign. I waited until this spring to see whether they would revive. They didn't. It's a beautiful tree, so I called Bartlett Tree Experts, a firm with certified arborists, so see what the problem was .. And to let me know whether it could be saved. Gary came a few days later. He examined the tree and agreed that the tree had been stressed by the derecho. But he discovered that the underlying clause was a tree disease. He told me that he thought that here was a 40% chance of saving it. That would involve trimming the dead Branches, applying medicine to the trunk, and fertilizing it in the Fall to give it strength. The price was not cheap, but I thought it was worth it to save the tree. While Gary was here, I had him inspect a few more other trees on my property. There were two adjacent trees which had grown together at the base -- Gary said that Sooner or later they ought to be bound together for safety. A clump of birches close to my house -- he said that they were far from growing to their full height; they ought to be bound together and a growth inhibitor applied. I decided that I would see how well they did the job at hand before I ordered more work. We set 8:30 this morning for starting the heavy work on the oak. Several days ago, a man dropped by to treat the disease on the oak. He struck me as being very bright -- he was polite and articulate, something I like. This morning the crew arrived at exactly 8:30, ready to work. These guys were no "chainsaw jockeys". They were professionals, smart, polite, and VERY hard working. We are in the midst of a heat wave, with "feels like" temperatures over 100. They brought a cherry picker truck, since the oak is over 100' tall. As they set up, a small amount of oil spilled on my driveway. They immediately set about cleaning it up, and Gary came with some additional stuff to clean it up, adding his apologies to the crews. He said that if the stain remained in a few days, the company would bring some power washing equipment to clean it up. The crew worked until about 3:00. It was obviously dangerous work -- the cherry picket would only go so high, so one man had to climb up in the tree to get the upper branches. I talked to the crew chief, and he said that the company has a strong culture of safety. The crew did more than was in the contract. The contract said that they would remove and branches more than 4" in diameter, but they got smaller stuff when it was within their reach. At the end of the job, they got rid of all the branches and debris, and did an excellent job of cleaning up "the site". I had expected that this sort of a job might have left some plants and shrubs the worse for wear, but that did not happen. Oh, and the oil spot -- turns out they use vegetable oil in their chain saws. It's not going to be a problem. They did everything they said they would do, and they did it very, very well. My neighbor had some tree damage from a recent storm. (I live directly across the street.) He called Bartlett Tree. (I never personally used them, heard they were good, but their quotes were always double the next highest bidder so I've never personally used them.) The first day, they seemed generally OK. Left some debris in the street, other debris was blown into my yard during "clean-up"). Being disabled, it takes extra effort for me to keep my yard looking nice and I don't need so-called "professionals" adding to my workload. The real issue came the second day. A smaller (different crew of 3) came out to finish the job. Arriving at lunch time, they decided to sprawl out on my yard as if is was a picnic area, dropping food, wrappers etc and generally making a mess. When I saw them, I went out and made a shooing motion with my hands. I was Ignored and then approached. Politely asked them to move off of my yard. Received unrepeatable comments which I will refer to as "Sass." Demanded they leave or I would call the police, more "Sass." Made my way to the neighbor's house who is having the work done. Explained the situation and he nicely assisted me in removing them from my yard. As I returned home I could hear the neighbor giving them some "Sass." The neighbor gets a much better star rating than Bartlett! Sorry Bartlett. If this is the kind of disrespectful crews you are fielding, then I think everyone should know to avoid this kind of over-priced "professionalism." read more
