This is one of those "shops" that is open for about 20minutes, one or two days a week. The hours posted on Google are not accurate. Apparently, the owner is not interested in doing business. read more

I think she's out of business. Sign on the door reads "I am out of here until the CDC says it's safe." Been that way since March 2020. I agree with everyone that she's a pill and makes shopping feel uncomfortable In HER store. But prices are good. And if she likes you, she's kind of entertaining. Little Soup Nazi in her. read more

Don't even consider stopping in. Crap junk for sale, extremely rude owner yells at you. Waste of time. I give it less than one star.

We were told to leave the store shortly after entering. Not sure why the woman behind the counter was so upset. It was clear we were not welcome in this store with the uniquely odd and off-putting odor. read more

We walked into this smelly, cramped store and asked the lady behind the counter about ammo boxes. She saw that we had the audacity to bring our coffee in with us and barked at us about the sign on the door and that we were not to bring drinks inside! How dare us not see the curled up weathered sign!? Us Fools! We promptly left as we were clearly unwelcome. read more

Was in Cottonwood today, went downtown and my husband who is a contractor in Afghanistan and has served in the Marine Corps, is also a Veteran by the way, wanted to look in this store. He walks in wearing his ammo bag which is his manly diaper bag for our 2 year old and the woman sitting at the desk playing games on her phone rudely tells him to drop his bag next to her. He does as she says, i am following him with our 2 year old, she asks me if i am with him, i say yes. It's hard to describe the unwelcoming feeling from her in text but this is the rudest woman i've encountered in a long time. She couldn't have been more uninviting, her intonation and mannerism was horrible. A young boy walked in and she asked us if he was with us, i said no so she quickly says to the boy what do you want? I think this woman is paranoid she is going to be robbed of her garbage she sells in her store. I've never felt like i've been dealt such horrible customer service in my life. I wish i could explain it better but stay away from this store unless you like rude people, poor customer service and are in need a used camo canteen. read more

Owner was very patient with my questions about hiking in the area and answered countless questions about the local wildlife to my 3 grandchildren (We live in Gloucester, MAssachusetts.). It was an experience. A POSITIVE one. read more

My hubs has a condition that causes shakiness and instability. They were so cordial and acted like that was no big deal and were able to offer solutions for him to be able to do XC with me. It seemed like half the store was 40% off so we looked around then went to the shoe section. I found some full price Merrell shoes to try. The clerk was having a conversation with a customer about possible Grand Canyon hikes which was interesting....for the first 5 minutes. Made eye contact with the clerk but nothing, just kept talking about hikes and never about the shoes being tried on. Got up and looked for someone else to help but no one available after a lap of the store. Went back to the shoe department, the clerk was STILL talking about hikes and ignoring me standing there with the shoe. Put the shoe back on the shelf, we left and spent our money elsewhere. While we don't give off the hardcore "outdoors" vibe this store is definitely not as cool as they think they are. We were also ignored when first walking through the store while hearing another customer being offered help. Good thing there are a dozen other stores selling the same stuff within a square mile of old downtown. Maybe why so much of the merchandise was 40% off?

I've been shopping at this store for 28 years! The same woman has owned it from day one. The entire town LOVES her!!! That's why she's still in business for over a quarter of a century (in the same town!) She always has new things, interesting things, quality items, great prices and is one of the sweetest, nicest, most helpful store owners I've ever met! Perhaps you caught her at a bad time when she was texting or being texted. Or maybe you were upset because she didn't have a "used" canteen cover? She only sells new ones. She only carries quality goods..........you were clearly in the wrong place if you were looking for cheap things. She also offers to WATCH peoples bags or backpacks while they shop. It's too bad you weren't there 5 minutes earlier or later. You might have had one of the best shopping experiences of your life! Bet if you ever go back, you'll see why she has the most popular store in all of Cottonwood! read more

Actually I have known Penny, the owner of Barter Inn, and the lady who runs the place for many years. Tho yes, she is outspoken, I have always found her to be a fun person to chat with, and all her merchandise is quality merchandise. If she has used Items, they are for a discounted price with a concern for availability on the open market. I shop at her store often, it being the only store of it's kind in our area and for many miles around. I can get things at Barter Inn that I cannot get anywhere else locally. I personally have never had a bad experience at her store, and would recommend it to anyone seeking preparedness items, military gear/clothing and other kinds of heavy duty clothing, craft items, even some childrens camo clothing. Been shopping at the Barter Inn since I came back to the Verde Valley in 2005. Ya get more bang for your buck per square inch in this shop than anywhere else. Penny the owner is always accommodating no matter how buried she is inventory, and if your being sketchy in her shop...she'll let you know it! LOL She also sells SWAT Boots! Best military shop I've ever been to. The owner is straight forward, helpful and very honest. I,ve never had better customer service! There's an awesome collection of knives on display from Benchmade to K bar and everything in between. Her BDU pants and merchandise selection is better than Amazon! I love this store! read more
