I attended evening classes for the VN program. I passed my exit hesi and NCLEX PN on the first try 3 months after graduation. Alot of changes happened with staff while I was there 2018-2019, some I won't mention but the Instructors that had an impact were of course Dr G who Is the unofficial wise father to most of the students in the VN program he is the glue that holds the school together, Clinical Instructor Ms Rebecca who is stern but will teach you how Nursing is truly an Art and how it is a labor of love. Mr Chris who is the unofficial student liaison and comes with tons of nursing experience and will never let you be mediocre out there on the floor. Over all if you plan on attending Gurnick San Mateo be prepared to work hard and do mountains of necessary and unnecessary reports ,paper work and endless online questions to answer. Make sure you get clarity in the beginning about the financial aspects of tuition because the person in that financial office might not know what their doing. This program is not for the weak you must have thick skin and be able to advocate for yourself.

I was nervous the first day but Kristi creates a welcoming and supportive environment. I felt safe to express myself, make mistakes and to ask questions. The format of the class starts with brief introductions to the other friendly drop in students then warm up exercises which are always different and thought provoking. Then we take turns performing cold reads into the camera. She chooses the scenes and gives us options and flexibility on what we want to work on. (If we let her know ahead of time she will email us the scripts so we have more time to prepare. )Then we get to watch the playback of our performances and receive constructive feedback right then and there that we can immediately implement into our second take of the scene. Kristi gives expert advice and encourages us to be creative and try different things. She can help pinpoint weaknesses and strengths and how exactly to improve upon them. I've gained confidence as an actor and learned techniques that work for me. It's also been helpful to observe the other students perform different scenes and to hear Kristi's feedback for them. I highly recommend bringing a notebook to remember her insightful advice and our discussions. Kristi is a great teacher, personable, entertaining and she knows what she's talking about. I can't emphasize enough how fun her class is! We are all learning and laughing and discovering ourselves- it's an enriching experience. Another bonus is she lets you keep the recordings which helps if you don't have a reel to send out to auditions yet. I'd had... less-than-stellar experiences at two other repair shops. I'm not there to buy a vacuum or be talked into another machine--I just want the one I brought in fixed. Sure, it might even be cheaper to buy a new one. But this one is mine. And I believe in taking care of the things I own. Especially my mother's "fancy" sewing machine. I'm so glad I found Viking! Seriously--a most excellent experience. What an absolute delight of a human Gordon is. I've got blue hair, all leather and spikes--I can be a bit much. ;) Gordon didn't even bat an eye when I rolled in. He treated me with kindness and respect, and we had lovely conversation. My machine was fixed much faster than I expected--done in under a week! He called when it was ready and kindly held onto it for a few extra days until I could arrange a caretaker for my Yiayia. When I picked it up, he walked me through everything that had gone wrong, and even mentioned he enjoyed sewing with it. That last bit made me feel especially happy. No judgment, no shame, and I walked away with more knowledge/tips than I walked in with.
