The online barcode scanning menu is a scam. It was full of pop ups and seemed shady. The next day I was charged $1.95 from some strange customer service company out of Florida called ALLTIFNXYZ. First time here and parking was tight as it's the Hilldale area aka trendy place. Were greeted immediately but no table so we sat at the bar. Cute small paper menus with lots of street food. Reminded me on tapas but I know these aren't exactly tapas. Had pork belly rice bowl where the meat was crispy but a bit greasy. Glad I had kimchi to go with the pork and cucumbers to cleanse my palate. Friend enjoyed her ribeye bowl. My ginger mint tea was ok as I didn't taste any mint and subtle ginger. I hadn't been back in perhaps a year or so until the other night to meet a friend for dinner. I was really looking forward to those carnitas - but first, drinks. New (to me) to the menu was the oaxacan sunshine. Delightful! I had two! Definitely the spendiest drink on the menu but I couldn't help myself. Very bright and fresh and goes down too easily. The street corn fritters were next and these were just as lovely as I remembered. These have a unique and intriguing flavor that make it really hard to stop eating them! But then - no carnitas. What? Why?! Where'd they go?! I tried the slow roasted pork but it just wasn't the same. I didn't feel like the chicken verde blew my skirt in the air either, so I closed out with a falafel taco that was pretty good but pretty basic and something I think I could have made at home with some of my favorite locally prepared falafel mix. It was a bit of an expensive dinner for a less than usual memorable meal so I'll check the menu again before I put this one back up towards the top of my favorites list. I was super excited to try this spot. I just got out of surgery and when I was told by my mother I didn't have to have hospital food I was over the moon. She took the time to spoil me while I'm on bed rest to get me food I would eat. When she spent over 50$ we only ever received one taco. Hoping to resolve the issue she called into the restaurant. Just to be told to contact DoorDash and we would not be receiving a refund. It's crazy how you can lose customer you never had the opportunity to serve. I had high expectations for Bartaco because the ambiance was super cool and it was often busy. Unfortunately, I was not a fan of the service or the food. I didn't enjoy any of the dishes we ordered. The chips with the guac were the size of small tortillas, tasted old and were awkward to eat with. I ordered the cauliflower rice bowl and was shocked when I was given just plain roasted cauliflower over rice with raw onion and pepper and a random chili paste. So I've been to Bartaco twice now -- once for takeout and once for dine-in. I was a little torn about my rating, because the food is actually pretty good but I think they miss the mark on a few things... and then some things are just personal dislikes. To start, ordering to-go was pretty simple. I came for pickup on a very quiet night with very few people in the restaurant. It took a little longer than I would've thought to get a human to check for my order, but that's not to say it was an exceedingly slow process. The inside ambience made me think of a Hollister/Abercrombie & Fitch circa the 2000's. Very "beach/coast" theme even in the middle of a December snow. However, even for takeout, the one thing that really turned me off was how darn loud the music was. First of all nobody is there, you don't need it that loud. Secondly, if I'm dining in I want to hear the people I'm sitting with. If I want to jam out to music, I'll go to a concert. Still, my tacos were yummy. I like simple, traditional street tacos and while Bartaco tries to get a little more creative with their taco menu, it's not outrageous and the tacos were yummy. Came back for dine-in on a weekday night, and my experience was overall positive. Again, the music. I don't love yelling to the person sitting next to me. The ordering process was done completely via cell phone and a QR-code menu. My phone was dead, so thankfully others at the table could handle that part. The margaritas come in small rocks glasses, so I'm not wild about the price for what I get, but what isn't stupid expensive these days? I asked for my margarita without ice, which was obliged, and my glass came about 3/4 full. That's not a terrible ratio because many other places give you 75% ice and 25% drink. I guess I'll take Bartaco's ratios instead. The margarita was very tasty as well. While I appreciate not having to wait for someone to come to your table (but what if I have questions...?), the receiving of food process is really missing the mark. The three of us ordered about 12 tacos, and they all came out together jumbled on trays. The server stated briefly what all 12 were, but honestly who remembers all of that?? We had to guess on everyone's tacos and remember what all we ordered. It's really not the best system. Even so, the tacos were yummy. I would come back to Bartaco for the food, but would much prefer takeout over yelling to my table-mates. read more

And the staff is very nice. I had experience Bartaco at a Yelp Elite event in the winter, and I had loved it so much that my husband got sick of hearing it and we had to go as a family. Bartaco has one of the most attentive managers that I have experienced at a restaurant. He was so great at the Yelp event, with explaining the history of Bartaco and how things are run. And during our family visit, he was attentive and helpful with our little daughter who needed a high chair. We were right next to the waitstaff stations and they were all so perfect and interacting with her as they passed by, and she just had the best time. They make things so easy, as they are completely paperless. You scan the QR code and place your order online. That includes drinks and desserts, as well as your dinner. This is an exciting restaurant with some really great tacos and drinks! The pork belly taco was absolute DYNAMITE! It was crunchy and delicious. I ordered a margarita and a mojito, and they were delicious--definitely worth the price! My only negative experience was the guacamole. It was small and subpar. Not a good chip:guac ratio. I really like Bartaco! Every time I've been here I've had a positive experience with food, drinks, service and overall. There is often a wait, so best to plan early if you're in the mood to eat here. Get your place in line and walk around Hilldale a bit! I've tried the margarita, the sangria, and probably every taco. My favorites are the spiced chicken verde (surprisingly tasty!) and the glazed pork belly. The tacos are small so it's good to get at least 3 at a time :) The guac is really good, and the salsa is not bad either. I always have room for their churros with chocolate sauce. It's really disappointing when you're a consistent customer here and you get treated super poorly. Our wait time was estimated to be 20-30 minutes, it took us over an hour. Shrimp taco had so much sauce on it, I couldn't eat it. There was a hair in another taco. Food was cold. Our dessert took 25+ minutes even tho there was around 15-20 people left. It's been a minute since my dinner at Bartaco. Reading the latest reviews I see things have changed. No servers? That's a negative. When I go to a restaurant I expect human interaction and someone waiting on me. Otherwise why don't I get food from the grocery store, go home and make it? I implore the return of servers. Hilldale this year has been popping up with some great new additions! One of them being Bartaco. Bartaco is a chain where I had first tried them in North Carolina. They label themselves as a coastal restaurant so the nautical decor inside is spot on. Then the menu is inspired from coastal cuisines like Mexico,,m little japan, cali, etc. You also have an order form at the table where you note what you want. Most meals and dishes are served on metal trays and they have a variety of hot sauces waiting for you to try at the table. I'm all about the sauce so I loved that! We got a variety of tacos and the secret menu taco (be sure to ask!). Our favorite was the secret taco, but the others were just ok. I also ordered the kids meal which surprisingly has a very decent amount of food in comparison to price! Love the value. We ended the meal with the churros which came out nice and hot and served with chocolate - perfect ending to the meal and easily shareable for those that eat with their eyes and order everything like me. read more

The food arrives in a timely manner, and the servers are very efficient. Warning: it can get pretty busy here! Every taco I've tried here has been delicious! The size of each taco is also decent (not too small/large, good shell:filling ratio). I do wish they gave larger lime slices, but you can just ask the server to bring you more pieces. The roasted chicken here is also popular and tasty! There is a decent selection of beers and alcoholic drinks. Desserts are also available. We were feeling adventurous and decided to go to Bartaco. They are located in the Hilldale Mall, and it was a Sunday night. It was quite crowded, but we still were able to get in right away. The vibe was very modern and carefree which was great for a Sunday night. What I really enjoyed about the menu was that there were many options from not tacos two tacos and a great selection of kids items. Many of the night taco selections were less than $10 and the tacos were about $2-$4 dollars. I think the best complement to the menu we're at the salsa selections. The salsa sauces were fresh and homemade and you can choose from mild to spicy hot. I also enjoyed my Poke Tuna. It was fresh, spicy, crunchy, and delicious! The three tacos that I have noted in my photos we're also amazing. The Baja Fish taco was crunchy and a good piece of fish. The chicken was extremely tasty, and the Seared Swordfish was spot on. It's a cute and cozy place. There is a nice fire place inside. It's located in Hilldale which is a good location. But a little on the pricy end for tacos and drinks. However the drinks are make with fresh squeezed fruit. I tried the Paloma Fresca which was really good. As for food I got 3 tacos - Baja Fish, Mojo Pork Carnitas - more tradition taco with decent flavors and Tuna Tatako - which was the ahi tuna in a lettuce wrap - tasty but might want to have an option to have it in a taco or over chips. I did see an appetizer version on the menu but forgot to ask about its. The sauces were also good- Jalapeños, Habanero and Roja. The regular menu guac is a little spicy. We ordered a variety of tacos. The tuna tatako was too saucy, all you tasted was sauce. We like spice but the falafel taco was so hot two off us felt like we were going to be ill. My 11 yr old tolerated the the Sriracha falafel decently, but once we arrived home felt ill briefly. The crispy oyster tasted like grilled calamari or gator, and a sauce that would typically come with it. The cauliflower taco was tasty. Baja fish was tasty. Such a happy place! Really nice decor inside and out, and fun menu ordering system with QR codes at table. Service is always nice and food comes out relatively quickly so can be nice to waste time or a more time constrained lunch. I've been many times and tried most things, all the tacos are good (especially duck, fish, cauliflower), the churros are excellent, sides are good. Yet more than the food I find the place very fun, is always filled so has a good vibe and if you sit out on warm summer nights you can people watch the hilldale mall crowd/the green lawn area in front of Apple Store. It was a mediocre experience for us. Maybe I'm old school, but the ordering of food on your cell phone without a waiter/waitress has very little positive benefit for the customer. No one to ask questions of the menu. The food comes out a jumbled mix across multiple plates leaving you wondering who ordered what. So then you sort through the plates to find your items, consolidating them in front of the right person. Next it trickles out at odd intervals where some in your party sit with food getting cold in front of them while others wonder when their food will get there. Plates of food are sat at the table with the table delivery person having no clue who's food it is, you're left to identify the tacos on your own and distribute accordingly. The food itself is pretty tasty actually, albeit small portions, but the ordering experience overshadows the food. I think If you'd rather not interact with people, and are eating by yourself, this would be a pretty solid choice. You pretty much make it through the whole night without an interaction with anyone except the hostess that sat you down. read more

All of the food I tried was nothing short of delicious. I am generally skeptical about "fusion-style" places, but feel that Bartaco has executed it well. Their lemonade was extremely tasty, light and beautiful. Appetizers: The fried plantains were a perfect combination of savory and sweet. The tacos are quite small, but pretty flavorful. A satisfying dinner would be an appetizer (such as plantains), 3-4 tacos, and a dessert. Tacos I tried: baja fish, chicken pastor, carne asada, crispy rock shrimp, roasted duck, tuna tataco, and cauliflower. Every single taco was unique and tasty. The tuna is a MUST. It was so delicious and full of flavor and the quality of tuna was high; I was pleasantly surprised. My least favorite were the cauliflower and rock shrimp, which were just alright. We tried the gelato flight of four cones and it was a perfect way to end the dinner. The coconut gelato was out of this world. Overall, I LOVE the food here and would definitely not hesitate to take friends here and visitors from out of town. I had to dock a star for convenience. When we came here the first time, we had to wait over an hour. We tried to come back for lunch on another day and it was again, completely jam packed. Expect to wait. In addition, it took over two hours for us to have dinner the first time (though the waiter did say it was exceptionally busy that evening) from sitting to tab, not including wait time. We came back again for lunch on another day but it was going to be at least a thirty minute wait so we did not end up coming back.
